A Missive to the Masses

An elf stared at the paper for a moment squinting at the writing. “They were looking to exterminate Haelun’or through any means. It’d have made no difference.” He’d simply air to the hollow grotto he had secured by a roadside. “I also enjoy how I am the scapegoat- oh dear Valindra… how I now know how you feel. Perhaps I cannot wholly retire.”

Argelion Zôrzagar, The High King of Idunia, grimaced upon observing the Xionist drivel pinned upon a wall which regarded this Synod as a ‘great’ one and words about ‘Black Gods’. His hand rose to tear it down, and chucked it far off into the distance before he wandered on!

"Too little- too late."

A mournful choir sounded from distant lands. There came no anger from the ethereal trio, only pity.. And perhaps that was what was most saddening of all.

The Synodic custodian, a mere Sorvian charged with caring for countless Undead, kept his stoic and faceless gaze upon the missive in his motionless hands.

"An ugly word; the Old are so called to their Primeval Ways and their sleeping terms."

A few moments pass, and then seconds, and then hours in silence before the Sorvian finishes his thought.

"But it is not my place to pass Judgement. That is Razaak's charge."

The Barrowlord of the Synod read the papers, and could feel the sensation of nostalgia at the sight of such familiar iconography and usage of an ancient lexicon. His student was a most devout follower of the Way, be it Primeval, Old, or New... Would he be able to see the vision of his tutor? Would he take the opportunity to unite, rather than divide? Their most recent lesson had assured him that this was indeed a zealot who would further their cause. The direction of this zeal was yet to be fully determined. "Let us get back to work... This minor setback shan't take up any more of our time. The Way is forwards." ushered he then to his scribe.

A DIFFERENT BARROWLORD READ UPON THE WORDS, AND A GREAT, WICKED SMILE GREW ACROSS IT'S GHOSTLY FACE.

THE WIGHT CONTINUED TO READ A RECOVERED BOOK, DETAILING PAST SYNODS.

Zabub’Lur, way past his prime, tightens his clutch around the missive. A vein pulsing upon his forehead.

You succumbed to the Old Dark.

You are an affront to Xion.

His tusks grit with pure anger, throwing the missive onto the floor and stomping on it multiple times.

The bowie-knight had been there for the slaughter, perched in the rafters.

He remembered how quickly it all unraveled, sitting above with an old friend, simply curious to see how the proceedings might go. Numenedain justice was often swift. Idunian justice, if it could even be called that, proved far swifter.

He’d lifted his shield to turn a young pair of eyes from the carnage below; watching elves in droves press against the iron bars of the suddenly-snapped gate. Their fingers reached for a freedom their bodies could not follow; though their spirits fled in droves, slipping through the cracks and spaces, driven on by once-righteous blades and the insistence of their leash-handlers.

—{☼}—

“...didn’t think ah’d see so many great betrayals’a justice turned massacres in my time, but here I am.”

He’d always said Xionists would make some fine points if they weren’t all such assholes,

though today, it seemed few were trying to make themselves look any better.
