And it came to pass in the crownlands, that Kusi Amaru Leomonte, son of Rodrigo Tupaq Amaru, stood before Airn the Calamity, terror of the realm. Though night lurked behind him, the cold beneath him, he did not turn back, for he had called the duel and the calling bound him more tightly than his benevolent quri¹

He bent the earth and took stones, counting them as he went, until eight lain still in his pocket. Airn spoke then, casting doubt and mockery, but Kusi stood and rivaled him. He swung his sling, and the first stone struck the bone-borne plate and shattered. For doubt rested in him.

Airn the mountain-sized answered swiftly, but Kusi answered again. Now blessed in prayer of the Huaca². The sling turned, the stone flew, and the behemoth’s javelin was broken, scattered into a millenia of fragments that burned briefly against the night. Thus the duel was joined in full, and stone found flesh, opening wounds in the beast’s frame.

Airn halted then, hell-fire in hand and his body sagging like split-wineskin. Though Kusi’s aim had failed him, his strength had not, and it stood terrible to behold. The behemoth spoke onto him in that hour, granting honour to the warrior.

But not all took pride in Kusi’s strength. And among the host there were those who feared its measure. Frederica, holy priestess and keeper of joy, seized him then, seeking to restrain his hand. And thus Kusi struck her away, not in hatred but in haste, to free himself from her grasp.

She released him, shaken, and spoke ire. And Kusi, unturned from his path, went on to battle.

Then came Corswain, valour-born and steadfast, who took his place beside him. At the sight of them together, the beast’s courage broke. And Airn, diminished and wounded, offered his blade to Kusi in promise. Yet he turned and fled, swift in terror but slow in wisdom.

And Kusi Amaru, oath-bound, would not permit the beast to withdraw, for his vow to slay him lay heavy upon his heart and onto those that rested in the clinic.

And in that turning away, ruin found him.

For Kusi, herculean and strong-willed, took upon his last stone and placed it in the sling of war. As the behemoth turned, his cries tearing the night, his shape writhing toward the demon-born horror beneath his hood, the stone flew swift as lightning.

It sank deep into him, and Airn the Calamity fell, silent, shattered and undone.

A huff.

Annoyance, anger, red, crimson even.

Every time he reached for that blade of his, another peppermint leaf was added to her tongue. Every time it was again sheathed would she tell him off, several times did she consider lopping that book at his head, in hopes logic would find him.

Though when he left to seek rest, did that annoyance and anger turn to something she wished not to admit: Fear. One peppermint leaf was no longer enough to quell the ache in her stomach, and after every battle of his did her pockets refill with fresh stock of the herb.

The Tawantinsuyin Templar would look upon his son in triumph as he witnessed the finality of such a skirmish on the bridge of Rittersburg. The fires of the Tawantinsuyin blood remain ever stoked; forth would the golden-clad warriors aid in furthering this growth. “My son bears mine kin’s name akin to a crown, his blood flows of once-royals and of bellicose warriors. So Mote It Be. He will be a force to be reckoned with.” The Warrior would then move to his forge, conducting the beginning of a creation worth such a young sinchi
