COMMUNITY MEET MINUTES

[Posted March 2026]

INTRODUCTION

Hello! Last month, we hosted our first Community Meet in a long time, and it was wonderful to speak with all of you and address the community's questions. We appreciate everyone's patience with the delay in sharing the minutes, and we will aim to get them out sooner in future. As well as a quick thank you to @Erifor transcribing the meeting.

With that being said, check out below for some team updates and responses to the questions you all submitted.

TEAM UPDATE MINUTES

 - Technical Team -

Earlier this month, we shared several updates on the forums regarding our recent activities, particularly about the website’s World Map, the increase in node output for ores, and the Skin Wardrobe Plugin. We also plan to push custom emote colours for Aether VIP soon.

Alongside some of these changes, we’ve also started work on the 1.21.11 update, though there is no release date planned yet. One thing we are looking at is a new 1.21.11+ fork of our server software designed to improve performance for large numbers of players in a small area - i.e., ‘blob fights’, which we will test out after the general update.

When it comes to team structure updates, we’ve recruited quite a few people on Triage and Implementation so we’re not actively recruiting for those, though applications for Java and Web teams are always open. If you’re interested in either of those, reach out to @Adelemphiior @Daisy respectively.

Finally, in terms of plugins, we are also working on implementing a tutorial island plugin in collaboration with CT, along with a wayfinder plugin to guide players along the roads, which will also bring back road speed bonuses!

As a reminder, we do ensure that the roadmap for the tech team is up to date and linked at the bottom of all tech posts. We’ve attached it here too, along with a few recent updates, just in case you missed them!

- Mod Team -

We’ve recently been working towards sending out the Admin packages as we begin a search for a new Mod Admin. We are also looking into the training process at the moment to standardise it. Outside of this moderation is going well, with a lot of talent within the team at present.

In relation to the War, we are very happy with how the first warclaim went, though as the war wasn’t a giant blob fight on one tile so it might not be 100% representative of skirmish performance, but it managed to run smoothly throughout. For the defences during the siege, there were some exceptions granted, but the rules worked well overall. Please note that

Warzones are being worked on this week, with a ruleset being worked on internally and then sent out when we are happy with it. We are shooting to have Warzones in the next week or two.

- Story Team -

After a dip in activity around events due to a mandatory post-antagonist hiatus, things are picking up again with some big Eventlines in the works. We have also had some secret lore projects approved alongside the Clerics (which, as you now know, ended up being the Mori!). We have been seeing a quicker turnaround on lore mags of late, and on lore reviewing and amending as well. In terms of Builds, with the ST projects currently coming up, we expect to see an increase in build passive work rather than reactive work on builds. In terms of Map stuff, it has been going well despite the shifts within the team of late.

The management of ST is doing well, with the new lore manager Pallodium doing a great job and the new build manager Unwillingly doing a phenomenal job, respectively. While we do acknowledge the team is a little large, those on the team are being given a fair shot with proper management before we plan on cutting it down.

Recently, we have also been working in collaboration again with CT to produce Lore Videos. Saviour has been taking point on them, with one being done and another two are in the editing phase.

Please note that since the Community meeting, the secret Lore-Piece has been revealed. Feel free to check out the lorepieces below:

- Community Team -

We have recently brought new people onto the team, especially within the Wiki and media focus groups, so you can expect some content from both groups to be released soon. In Relation to Media, some videos are currently being worked on, but the process is a little slower than usual. Additionally, some media projects have been put on the back burner, as Smol recently became an admin and Saviour has had less time to dedicate to videos, focusing more on management work to cover the gaps.

Outside of that, we are always looking for more media team people - it’s a difficult job that needs skills, and it’s unpaid, so it’s all volunteer-based. If you can edit, write, have a good pc for recording or screenshots, reach out! We are soon going to be opening up submissions for the media accounts from the community. This means the server playerbase will be able to submit content, and if it can be used they will be posted.

In relation to the Application format, we are working towards implementing it. Further, we are working in collaboration with the Technical Team on doing a new tutorial plugin as well as updating the tutorial islands themselves, so keep an eye out for that in the future!

With the new monk lore, we’re looking into internal event protocols for CT events so we can standardise them overall, to avoid mistakes in the past. We look forward to being able to get them back up and running. Overall, Lots of new people on the team, still adjusting at the moment and looking forward to the future of the team.

Please note that since the Community meeting, we have released a CT update. Check it out below:

- Administration-

We are presently in the process of selecting a new Mod Admin, so we have started looking and sending packages to candidates. Once this stage is complete, they’re reviewed, discussed, and once consensus is reached by the Administration, we will be bringing the chosen candidate onto the team. While this is being conducted, we are also working towards developing a vision statement for each team, which will provide high-level guidance towards each team and work towards developing a larger overall server vision. We had mentioned in the admin meeting minutes that all ban appeals had been processed, though there were a few older ones that were missed and are now being reviewed. No reports are currently active. Also, we have recently started posting Admin meeting minutes, which seem to be a well-received change that we’ll be continuing moving forward. Most of the admin meetings really aren’t crazy interesting!

Q&A MINUTES

Q: Where do I go to set up the Story Cache  Heist?

A: You’re on a watchlist, LOL.

Q: Custom mobs?
A: There were some previous discussions around using MythicMobs and ModelEngine. However, there are some tech limitations on these. For an in-house plugin, it’s something that’s on our roadmap and was being worked on for a bit before 10.0 launch, but the dev working on it left the team and it never got pushed to completion. Once high-priority stuff is completed and out of the way, we'll take a look at it.

Q: New creature races?

A: CAs are always acceptable. The standard is the same as it has always been; some CAs are being written. When we look at a CA, we need to consider if this is something people would play or if it would become isolated and managed properly. The issue with wonks is that they never formed up to make a community; when they did, it was short-lived. They were alienated from everyone else for being different and weird, so it was hard for them to RP with others. Many don’t like that kind of RP. A slime guy would be cool, for example, but people might not roleplay it once the novelty is gone.

Q: What events do STs intend to run to help people want to continue playing?

A: It’s easy to fall into a black hole of despair in VCs with negative things to say. Things are on the upswing right now. We are addressing problems where we can, like with communications. The server is unrecognisable from 5 years ago. It’s more roleplay and lore-oriented now. The playerbase has matured, and there’s been some solid efforts and initiatives, and some good role models and low tolerance for shit behaviour has made it better. It's a slow change.

Q: Is killing someone to remove their knowledge metagaming?
A: It’s a double-edged sword. We cannot do PK clauses at this point, as it’s too hardcore for most. Back in the day, there was a Litch that was played, and when he died, he’d go back to where he died instantly and spam bone puns, which was entertaining. However, when you retain that knowledge after death, it becomes a ‘I need to get revenge’ thing, which ruins roleplay. If you play a murderer or thief and know someone can describe you exactly after death, it’s shitty and unfun. The current system makes the best roleplay for trying to find out why it happened and dealing with it after the fact.

Q: ST Ore nodes?

A: They were an unfun system, and they tried to improve it, but it was too gameable. It didn’t add much to roleplay, created stockpiles, and was annoying to have to manage. During the highest flow month, the cap reached in 2022 was 960 reqs in a month. Keeping it so it’s only event distribution,n and it worked last month. Even then, there's a tracker sheet that tracks when things are given out at events. Some ETs have gotten lazy with loot and just want to throw around carbarum. The loot is going to be more creative now, hopefully, as people act insane over ores and mats.

Q: Plans to support and enable STs and ETs?

A: Ideas for plugins to help out staff are always welcome; we’re always looking for ways to make their lives easier in ET and ST events.

Q: Staff position on plugins, like professions, etc.?
A: In terms of professions, they used to be grindy and gamey, so there’s an initiative internally to push for immersive pastimes. Rather than grinding for skill points, it lets you add additional things. Cooking, brewing and special crop plugins are good, etc. QOL and RP enhancements like persona skins are always being worked on. The dice plugin is good, and adding additional mechanics to that may be good in the future. Generally, we will be staying away from professions and skill plugins.

Q: Favourite colour, spoopy?
A: Aqua pastel

Q: Why did you just now make a Q&A meeting section?
A: The intention is to have more regular community meetings; it’s a good place to throw around questions. Every 2-3 months, we’ll be having these meetings; we want to have them more regularly.

Q: Why does Spoopy have a Yuta profile pic? He's a bum.
A: Banned

Q: What is the best flavour of Monster Energy Drinks?
A: Smol hates them, and energy drinks in general. However, she loves Lipton iced tea. Kowa says 10.0 only happened due to white monster, though!

Q: Is there a quota that CT members need to fulfil for new player-applications? If so, is it weekly or monthly?

A: No, there is no firm quota for applications; we measure activity based on what you're able to do in a month. Though if you’re not up to anything much, the rough guideline is 30 a month for applications, but again, this is not a defined quota. There is always something to do for the CT.

Q: Free item name changes for crunchy canvas?
A: Using editing is not possible due to how the plugin consumes tokens, but we may edit the canvas plugin to allow it in the future.

Q: Fast Async for the server?
A: The main issue right now is large edits; when a schematic is saved, it crashes the server; we had to close the server to do the seasonal changes to the cloud temple, for example. We are running Fast Async on dev, build and war servers, though another plugin has a hard dependency on vanilla WorldEdit. Since FAWE has huge speed and memory improvements to WorldEdit itself and offers considerably more features than the core WorldEdit plugin, we are looking to migrate to it.

Q: Is soup stackable?
A: The food bag only allows two item stacks; soups could be made stackable, we’ll look into it. With the incoming cooking plugin, it will be.

Q: Can we have custom banner requests that go past the 6-layer limit, like the map art's system?

A: This would be tricky; we would need to code a banner-building plugin for this and get rid of the base one. Minecraft is hard-coded to 6 patterns.

Q: Why can't we raise the minimum age to 16?

A: We all have differing opinions; it’s been talked about. If it’s 18+, it becomes an implication. There are bad connotations with “LOTC is an 18+ server”. When we were younger, we pretended to be older, and we also couldn’t verify age anyway. ID Checks will not be implemented, as it doesn’t protect anyone or solve any issues. However, according to application stats, if we raised the age limit slowly, we also wouldn’t lose many people, so that’s something to consider. Murder and torture roleplay may be allowed; we already have rule systems around those. We do also believe we currently have a good safety system to help younger players stay safe.

Q: Have there been any ideas or discussions about a way to possibly fix the shaman/spirit lore so that it can finally have a rewrite like most other magics on the server?
A: There are multiple rewrites prepped for shamans, and once they’re able to be submitted, there will be a lot to go through. Rewrites, however, do not solve problems and are being thrown around a lot. The Naz rewrite, for example, still gets new amendments very frequently. Though keep in mind, if we’re to do this Rewriting an entire magic can become difficult quickly and often leads to differing interpretations. Ideally, we should be working on fixing the interpretation, ensuring we can all agree on what it should do. Some things for shamans do need changes; we are hearing that lots are being rewritten with amendments and additions to fix things, but we have yet to see these.

In general, lots of dated concepts are being clung to that are a pain. It needs to be amended, not rewritten.

Q: What's the process for MArts?

A: The process is faster now. Before, there were quick turnarounds and arguments when making them. Lumiin has been slow with it, but ideally, when a second-story manager is obtained, it will be a dedicated role. The wait times will get shorter, but this will come with time.

Q: Hexcode colour items?
A: As mentioned in the tech update, custom text codes for chat are being worked on. With that tech now coded, we can roll it out to persona card colours, and we could likely extend the functionality to colour items. For staff, there is currently a way to use these custom text codes.

Q: When are we getting an armour stand customisation plugin for builds?

A: /summon was used on build servers, though that’s something we can’t open up to all players. Though an armour stand editor sounds cool. It’s being noted in the tracker.

Q: Will you make more Aengul and Daemon posts in that pretty format you do for them

A: Most have been done; the only ones left are Aruel and Dragur. They’re really large, which is tough. Dragonkin is an example of a big piece that took a while. Iblees and Metzli are being worked on. Some of these aren’t being updated, as no one knows some of their lore, so find out IRP first.

Q: Why are run-of-the-mill structures like Hastune Miku statues, Poke Centres, and crosswalks allowed

A: You can always report it to mods if you believe it’s a land-scar, but the Miku statue is an actual player who just had blue hair, who is important to Oyashima history

Q: Any chance that we'll be able to edit notes in the future to be able to do things like adding an item link to it so that we can send roleplay posts to other players through an aviary? Currently, it gives an unhandled exception error.
A: You can send any piece of paper over the aviary, including those from /edit. Let us know what you want from the notes, like adding a clickable link. Use /edit for now, but this uses a token.

Q: Auction Houses?
A: In the past, they didn’t add much to RP, it’s little interaction, as they were essentially just the RuneScape grand exchange. An idea has been discussed: having live auctions on scheduled dates, say twice a week in some nation, would be ideal. They would get a cut of the proceeds and would bid to host it; they would need an area, and it would be an event that occurs with an automated auctioneer actually asking people to bid. You would need to put a small amount of money down to put up an item to prevent people from spamming the auction with garbage. Not a priority or on the roadmap at the moment, though if auctions ever returned, it would be something like that.

Q: What is the official RP explanation for events announced on Discord? Do we just assume Discord announcements when not meta are screamed by a Herald and sent out by couriers?
A: Assume they’re sent to you or that it’s public! There’s no harm, it’s just setting up an event. You can assume the town caller let you know about it, etc.

Q: Would linking only forum posts work?
A: Forum posts are either hidden or not hidden. It’s a site limitation, so this would not work. Links via /edit only go to images. Adding links to Google Docs is an issue for moderation, so that’s out of the question.

Q: Can we ask people to try not using Imgur? It's banned in the UK.

A: We won’t tell people they can’t, though other image sites could be authorised on /edit, just make a /treq. 90% of the playerbase is not from the UK. Use a VPN.

Q: How does ST feel about stuff that’s gatekept to the extreme?
A: There is not much that is gatekept. Magic is as prolific as it’s ever been. Lore injections are a system that allows us to add users to a lore or give knowledge out in a specific lore, like a ritual that’s not been shared or an alchemy recipe that has no users. We’ve not needed to do that since Almaris. I have not had to do that for a long time because of how well distributed things are now. Yes- you can’t go up to someone and ask for necromancy. The only issue is that some people speedrun magic and minimise contact with teachers, etc. There’s no roleplay and no point in having magic if you don’t have an interest in the journey. Nothing is being gatekept right now.

Q: What are you looking forward to?
A: Tech- The next Minecraft update. Spears! Interactive prompts (a menu with questions people can fill in, looking at plugins for this)! And the rest of the roadmap for tech, like dialogue boxes, which are a new feature in Minecraft, where a plugin can open a GUI for you, and they can be persistent. One cool idea for item edits is being able to load the item's edited description to a dialogue box, so you can edit a specific line or word if you make a small mistake. 1.21.11 will also enable many cool features.

Q: How many years of server time to be a boomer?
A: If you’re here from before 2018 you’re a boomer.

Q: What do you think makes LOTC special?
A: The community, everyone sticks around and helps build stuff out to make interesting storylines, and this makes LOTC special. Everyone is a volunteer, and this drives community-driven designs; anyone can apply to staff and make a difference.

Squak glazing LOTC: Minecraft is a very good medium for roleplay compared to many other available options. Other games do have roleplay communities, but they are not that crazy. They do not have the same size and history as Minecraft roleplay does. Minecraft roleplay is such a unique thing to experience; it is very welcoming, and you learn a lot about yourself and a lot about those around you. It also acts as a form of escapism that people want, not only in roleplay but also in OOC as well, and to have a haven for that, where people are welcome and accepted, is a great thing to have. He is happy remembering the time he had on the server when he was younger and giving back the same experiences to new players of this day and age. What makes LOTC special is also the history of the server; every single thing is driven by player action, the lore, the history, all done by players, wars, wiki, etc. It is an experience that no other server or community has, partially from the longevity and partially from the checks and balances that have been built into the lore and history. Back in the day, Squak liked blacksmith roleplay, and his friend liked magic roleplay. After writing and partaking in the lore, he realised how cool it actually is; people feel like they are part of the world. All of it comes down to the lore, longevity, and community of the server.

Some no one knows of, but some the ST should double check. There's a few* (not many) guys left who know about the Old One shit...

...Though, I heard most of the Old One daemons need to be rewritten before any of this.

On a related note: Do you know if an LOTC custom texture pack is on the table?

There's a few we need to update, i.e., Jophiael. Admittedly, Old Ones are a bit of a no-touch because they deviate from the norm of aengudaemons rather significantly. For example, The BLOOD is hard to categorize as a Daemon because "Blood" isn't really a domain an Aengudaemon can control if that makes sense. Further, The Sword says that it was the Daemon of Innovation . . . but Garumdir is the Daemon of Innovation.

At least for ME, I will be personally trying to tackle Old Ones when we get to starting location lore and trying to find them a relevant spot that keeps their importance, even if that means they wont necessarily be "Aengudaemons" in the traditional sense. That said, please do not take my words as some doomsaying, I will of course be deliberating with figures such as Cam, Zarsies and Squak to actually make a coherent explanation there when the time comes, and nothing I have alluded to is final or canon.

So for this answer, specifically the highlighted text, I am extremely confused.

as per: https://www.lordofthecraft.net/rules/

image.thumb.png.653604ad1c3b6877734dd917b7ce6780.png

if it is literally against the rules to even know that you died, how does the current system possibly even come close to making the "best roleplay" for trying to find out why it happened, if it straight up doesn't even let you know how it happened? Can anyone explain to me how this answer does not directly contradict server rules?

I understand - they're pretty weird for Aengudaemons. They're pretty old lore and from what I gather had their aengudaemonic status shifted around quite a few bit.

I think the best thing to do would be to consult with Cam and others, like you said. He has many interesting ideas about Widukind and such, and I think that's the Old One that needs the most careful attention because of his importance to Xionism and Sorvian Sculpting.

I will admit I'm quite biased towards him, as I think the idea of a Daemon that tried to descend to the mundane fully and became anchored there to lose his status is dope as ****, and the weird interplay he's had with mortals has been fun. He's IRP responsible(*Or So I've Been Told) for a very large number of important server lore events (Which may now be dubiously canon given Cam has been off the team for so long.)

Most of them do need a deep rewrite. Blood doesn't make much sense, Poison doesn't, and though I like the Sword conceptually it might be a little too similar to the Sword of Horen thematically. Feldamfir and Dresdrasil just sort've exist

Regarding whichever staff member defining a Boomer as a post-2018 player, in the Empire we have a chat called the Imperial Fraternity for oldheads to reminisce and yap, and we have our own heavily-debated definitions for elder players. Thought I would share as it is a funny topic. They are as follows:

  • Prehistoric (joined pre-2015)
  • Boomer (joined 2015-2019)
  • Zoomer (joined 2020-2024)
  • Noob (joined 2025+)
