[T4] REBOUND [AGGRESSIVE]

By inciting resonance, an Oscillit can rebound the force of weaponry swung at them or nullify the momentum of projectiles shot at them before the moment of impact, using its own momentum against itself.

Spoiler

MECHANICS:

After achieving a state of Aggressive Resonance, an Oscillit can charge their aura into their palms creating a dense ball of energy which provides a short burst rebounding the force of swung weaponry back on its wielder causing them to stumble or nullifying the speed of shot projectiles to nothing.

Rebounding weaponry is possible with [1] emote, allotting the inertia of up to mace weight weaponry swung at the Oscillit back against the weapon swung at them, this causes the wielder to briefly stumble back.

Rebounding projectiles takes [2] emotes to nullify the force of hand-crossbow and short bow projectiles, attempting to rebound crank-crossbow or long bow projectiles will not work due to the increased velocity at which they are shot, making them near impossible to perceive timing wise.

A successful rebound of either kind triggers a [2] emote cooldown.

REDLINES:

• A Rebound can not deflect any melee weaponry as large as or larger than a Warhammer

• Bolts and arrows shot from crank-crossbows or long bows are incapable of being rebound due to the increased speed at which they are fired.

• Rebounds will only function on physical objects, weaponry and projectiles; it can not block magical projectiles or forces as to not impede on the use of Abjuration Strike.

• You can only block what you can perceive and see, if a weapon is swung at you without your awareness, it can not be rebound as this would be metagaming.

• if the Oscillit has means to see behind them through "reflective surfaces" or seer Dilated Secondsight, they may rebound without the need to face said force.

[T4] PRESSURE POINTS

An Oscillit may incite resonance to temporarily manipulate the connection between a target's soul and a physical appendage, using it to cut the connection off for a moment and create openings or defend themselves.

Spoiler

MECHANICS:

After achieving a state of Aggressive Resonance, the Oscillit is capable of physically striking an appendage with the tips of their fingers, temporarily severing the connection between a target's limb and the body portion of their soul blueprint, rendering that limb unusable for [1] emote.

It will cause the limb to fall limp as though all strength has been drained from it and is mechanically represented by the Oscillit's aura pulsing across their hands and into the ends of their fingers.

The Oscillit may only strike [1] appendage of choice and is limited to the target's arms and legs, attempting to strike the body or head will result in no effect to the appendages. Whilst striking an arm holding a weapon will cause the limb to fall limp, it will not inherently disarm the target of their weaponry, this would require the Oscillit to make another emote in attempt to disarm, Striking a leg will cause the target to stumble and will prevent them from sprinting, though will not trip them.

This may only be used once every [2] emotes.

REDLINES:

• The struck target must have a soul blueprint, this will not work on golems, automatons or anything with natural armour equivalent to Medium of Heavy Armour.

• This ability can not be performed with a resonant tool, only the Oscillit's bare hands.

• Striking a limb with Pressure Points will trigger a 2 EMOTE COOLDOWN and cause the chosen appendage of the target to fall limp for ONE EMOTE, this does not disarm them of their weaponry.

• This ability will bypass light armour but not medium or heavy armour, attempting to perform it on a limb covered by medium or heavy armour will have no effect on the target.

• Only [1] appendage at a time can be struck by the Oscillit, that being and arm or leg of a target, attempting to strike the body or the head of a target will not cause paralysis or knock the target out.

OOC REASONING -

I was in a very Nine sols + Ty Lee time in my life.

These abilities were initially part of a bigger piece I was writing, though after some thorough research on kani in the story team discord it came to my attention that Islamadon’s wishes for kani were very anti-stacking in a sense, so I decided to just post the two most developed abilities I had.

The inspiration for rebound came from the game Nine Sols and its unbound parry.

Pressure points is a rewrite of nerve strike from the old chi manipulation lore.

Why would I ever cast iron body if I have rebound? I’d rather see this sort of defensive action-manipulation ability in Moon Path.

You have a good point though I like to see it as

Rebound = immediate effect with a stumble you can follow up on

iron body = defense and armour for a short period of time whilst doing other things

I like to think they both hold unique use cases which can feed into an oscillit's strategy

as for it being in the moon path I'm not sure it makes much sense considering sun path primarily works with inertia and movement whilst moon focuses on the soul and mana/supernatural

I think rebound as a spell is very hard to balance

it's either the most broken thing ever, or entirely useless depending on your matchup

Do you have any recommendations on how I should adjust to balance it better?

I would switch and put rebound under moon, and then pressure point under sun. Only for some internal balance of how these techniques work in relation to the given path.

Perhaps rebound could even work on spells if you cast it with moon eye up.
