[Real-Talk] - Client Mods

Hey Asulon,

I'm coming closer and closer to the conclusion that in order for us as a server to go the next step in our development, we need to begin to use a permanent LOTC-only based client mod.

Basically the mod would exist as a separate entity to minecraft, an entirely different game that simply runs on the minecraft platform.

This would allow us to exist independent of minecraft, and would let us change just about every aspect of the game. We can add new mobs, chat bubbles, GUI's for everything, new blocks, new items, new equipment, new treasure, new mechanics, new, new, new!

The drawbacks of this are obvious as well however, in order for this to work every player would be REQUIRED to download a simple .jar file that would install the Lord of the Craft Game Client. If they didn't, they couldn't get on the server. Some people find this over cumbersome, regardless as to how simply I code it, to the point were all the person needs to do is click "install" and they'd be good to go.

Anyway, these are just some ideas I want to throw out. Coding a custom game client like this is a HUGE undertaking by me alone, so if I was to do this I would probably use some of our donation funds to get some additional programmers on-board to knock this thing out faster.

Post your feelings / ideas about this!

Not only will this help with our development, this will allow us to be completely independant and completely new. With this, we could implement mechanics that we could not do without!~

Just like spout but then only for one server :o

Are we still gonna use bukkit then?

Just to cut down on the work load at first we would. But later on we would drop it as well, so we would be running 100% independently.
