[Real-Talk] - Client Mods

How would having a separate client effect our ability to update our version of Minecraft as Mojang introduces new items/play dynamics? Would be have to be stuck in one specific version of Minecraft for a long time, or would updating be relatively trivial?

I'm a Mac user as well, so I hope that this wouldn't effect my ability to play the game. As long as it's still Java, I assume it won't.

It would use the files from minecraft.jar. LOTC client would have to update when minecraft does. There is a really good example of how this works. Go on youtube and search Adventurecraft.

I've been considering LoTC a seperate entity for a long time. I don't log into my account and play Mincraft. I log in and play eather LoTC OR Mincraft. Putting money into making a seperate entity out of LoTC technicaly IS improving the sever, which is what we donate for anyways(mostly). If you are going to do this, I'd hope it'd be as easy as clicking intall, and everything is done. I'm terrible at using my computer in any technical way, so PLEASE make it easy for people like me to get everything where it needs to be.

So if new client mods come out, we can release a new version of the LoTC client? Would also be possible to ask spout developers for some help and stuff?

If this is implemented, we should get a list of mods we want.

If this was stated somewhere else, sorry, I didn't read the whole post.

Edit: Is the client-mod going to be based on minecraft code, like spout does?

Yeah, there's a shitload of spammy "+1" meme posts that completely drowned out all the legitimate questions or suggestions. I was pretty surprised and disappointed by that...

People had just wanted to exhibit appreciation and support towards the initial idea. Let them have their fun and there is no need to swear really.

Enthusiasm is perfectly fine (and I apologize for swearing), but a thread swamped with contentless posts is really hard to navigate. I'm of the mind that if you can't say something to add to the conversation, then don't say anything at all, especially when it comes to forum posts. If you find it necessary to express your excitement over this update, do so in a constructive way. There's always the future thread with the poll in it for you to express your pure agreement (or disagreement) with this idea.

I really think LoTC should had this a long time ago... Since now, with the RP wise modifications we are a server apart from minecraft indeed... I'll love to see vaq coding for us a new client. :D

chat bubbles

Chat bubbles! HELL YEAH! :D

For all the haters that dont like to instal mods...

Vaq is talking about a new minecraft client, not a client mod.

The way you instal it is as simple as you first instaled minecraft...

I think it is a great idea and truly shows how dedicated you are to us and LoTC as a whole. It would also weed out many either un-dedicated players and trolls but there is one problem. I did a server thing and we encouraged players to use spout which is very simple and very easy but some of our great RPers couldn't figure out how to download it. I feel no matter how simple it is players will always have trouble downloading something so I think it is important that it is MC. I know not everything translates well but minecraft has millions of players and because of that LoTC has developed into such a big and amazing server. In conclusion I would enjoy it and so would many others but many players will leave or become much less active which, if it fails (And I hope it doesn't), it could be a waste of time and money.

Thanks for all the amazing replies guys. There's obviously a huge desire for something like this to be made. We're going to go ahead and lock this thread for now, and will post a formal poll with much more concrete information in the next few days. Stay tuned!
