Rise of t’e Mighty Blackaxe Clan

Ragnar1.jpg

*A relatively young, red bearded Dwarf slowly approaches Mount Ire, an axe firmly gripped in his large hands. He is clothed mostly in rags, made from various animal pelts and he shrouds his face under an engraved helmet. As he passes through the grand entrance, he steadily approaches a group of Dwarves in mid-conversation and as he does so, he begins speaking in a somewhat hushed tone.*

“‘ail Dwarves, I am sorry t’e interrupt... I come ‘ere ter seek audience wit’ a lad by t’e name of Darain Blackaxe. ‘e is an old cousin of mine... I can only ‘ope t’at ‘e remembers me from our child’ood. Do yer know if ‘e still resides ‘ere in t’e city?”

*One of the Dwarves extends out his arm and points down towards one of the homes below. The young Dwarf nods and continues to make his way onwards, as the crowd of Dwarves continue with their conversation.*

*As Morgrim slowly approaches the home, he sees lights from within and halts before rubbing his beard, contemplating how he should make his entrance. He sighs before pushing open the door to the home and stepping inside, tilting his head towards a group of Dwarves, all seated besides a roaring fire, some in the midst of drinking through their tankards of fine Dwarven ale.*

*As they look back at him, they halt their conversation, allowing Morgrim to make his audience. He speaks sincerely and without hesitation as he addresses those before him.*

“Brot’ers of the Blackaxe, mighty Dwarves of Kal’Dom’ain, te’day I come ‘ere t’e address ye all as my kin and bret’erin’. As I ‘ave been informed and ye will all know, t’e Blackaxe Clan ‘as lost it’s position o’ nobility in t’e Dwarven Kingdom, now under t’e leadership o’ King Kjell Ire’eart, a Dwarf ‘o considers ‘imself a Paragon amongst us. I Morgrim Blackaxe, t’e eldest son of Valen Blackaxe, am per’aps one of t’e few Dwarves ‘o did not follow ‘is order t’e return to t’e Dwarven Kingdom, despite t’e repercussions t’at were said t’e befall me. Many Dwarves, includin’ ye lads, me own brot’ers o’ t’e Blackaxe, will consider me a rogue... A rebel to t’e kingdom. Well, I ask ye all... T’e consider w’at I ‘ave t’e say before ye be makin’ ye judgements.”

*Morgrim raises his voice slightly as he remembers the days of old, a burning passion inside him, still wishing that Kal’Urguan had not fallen to the undead.*

“T’ere was a day when t’e Blackaxe stood strong by t’eir Dwarven brot’ers in t’e ‘alls of Kal’Urguan... A day when t’e Dwarves were led by t’e mighty council under King T’orik Braveaxe. We earned our nobility and t’e blood of our brot’ers was spilt, in order t’e ‘ave our clan name redeemed and ‘eard amongst the finest of Dwarven nobles. ‘owever, te’day, our efforts no longer stand true in t’e eyes of t’e King and we are considered not’in’ but mere commoners.”

*Morgrim turns his head and extends his arm out, pointing towards Darain, before he continues speaking.*

“Darain, as actin’ leader o’ t’e clan in Bazian’s absence... I ask ye t’e open yer eyes to t’is treachery and persuade our brot’ers t’at t’is cannot be allowed t’e continue. Aye, t’is plea does not go out to ye alone, but t’e all ‘o call ‘emselves a Blackaxe. Look at w’at ‘as become of us! I never t’ought I’d see t’e day when a Blackaxe bows to a dictator but it appears I was wrong. ‘ave t’e Dwarven ways o’ ‘onour and courage t’at t’e Blackaxe Clan was built upon truly gone or are we t’e show ourselves fer w’at we really are!?”

“Let me remind ye all of what our clan was founded upon. Many years ago, Decks Blackaxe, our esteemed fat’er and t’e founder o’ t’e Blackaxe clan found ‘imself under t’e rule o’ t’e Mad King Charles. W’en ‘e saw t’e King descend into madness and dictate over t’e Kingdom, ‘e did not sit back and watch as t’e Kingdom was enveloped in evil! ‘e left t’e Kingdom and built Kal’Dom’ain, where many of ye, includin’ I was born and grew up in. It was only many years after t’at we returned t’e Kal’Urguan and began workin’ our way up t’e nobility once again.”

*Morgrim pulls out a tattered parchment from his satchel and slams it down upon the table before the Dwarves, revealing a greying, but still visible sketch of the old fortress.*

640x360_8739_Rock_fortress_2d_landscape_castle_rock_fortress_picture_image_digital_art.jpg

“Kal’Dom’ain represents t’e fire t’at continues t’e burn in all o’ us... We are Dwarves o’ the mountains, we fight fer w’at we believe in at all costs. I ask ye all, is it right t’at we are t’e give up on the principles t’at we were born from, in order t’e appease a King ‘o cares not fer us or w’at our fat’ers did fer t’is kingdom? While Kal’Dom’ain was left t’e burn in Aegis, it’s legacy still stands and wit’ it, Decks’s legacy of what ‘e would ‘ave wanted our clan t’e become.”

*Morgrim begins to lower his voice as he turns his head directly towards Darain, his gaze warm but piercing.*

“While t’e path t’at I ‘ave taken is my own, I request t’at ye do not consider me an outcast to our clan... If anyt’in’, I only ask t’at ye respect my decision and continue t’e up’old w’at our fat’ers fought ‘ard fer. I do ‘owever intend t’e create a splinter from t’e Blackaxe t’at does not stand by t’is tyrant t’at calls ‘imself a King and Paragon over us. If yer truly ‘eed my words, I trust yer will come ter understand why t’is must be done. One way or anot’er, t’ere will be a day when yer will ‘ave ter make a decision, t’at will effect us all. I ‘old my trust in ye t’at t’e decision ye make will stand by what Decks would ‘ave expected of us.”

*Morgrim stands back, leaning over his axe and continuing to gaze over at the Dwarves by the fire, some now standing, others remaining seated. He awaits a response from the other Blackaxes, within the room.*

"I 'ave no loyalty to t'e King and I do not reside 'ere in 'is kingdom... I will likely leave once I 'ave 'eard t'e words o' me brot'ers. Like I stated, I am considered ter be "rogue" amongst t'e Blackaxes. My words still stand 'owever and I only ask t'at yer listen to 'em... If yer wish ter speak wit' me, furt'er, very well."

*stares at the dwarf* I dun quite remember ye. We might want tu catch up later. It is true w'at ye 'ave said about t'em t'inkin us as commoners. We Blackaxes 'ave done many services en some of our bret'ren 'ave lost t'eir lifes fur t'e kingdom. We s'ould not be treated as fawkin' peasants! WE 'AVE OFFERED MUCH MURE FER T'E KINGDOM, EN T'EY STILL SHOW MORE APPRECIATION TU FAWKIN' NEW DWARVES NO UN 'AS EVER SEEN BEFUR! W'O SAID I BOW DOWN TU KJELL! I DO NAY NEVER BOW DOWN TU 'IM. ...*the room is silent* We will 'ave eh private discussion on t'is later. No Blackaxe be considered en outcast. We are all family after all.*Darain gets up and walks away*

"My cousin, if t'is is w'at yer believe, is it not time ye made a stand wit' I and t'e rest o' t'e Blackaxes? We do not 'ave ter reside wit'in' a Kingdom t'at no longer welcomes us... T'ere are other places we can go and from t'ere, we can slowly rise once again and one day return to t'e Dwarven Kingdom t'e restore t'e ways of old... Listen t'e me words carefully lad, I need yer support in t'is."

Mili listens to the Blackaxe and gets over to whisper into his ear: Ah agree wit' ye lad. Dis king isn't doin' much. Person ah t'ink Strong'old wud 'ave made a bettah king. But not'in we can do.

After he whispered conversation Mili addresses everyone: Ye shud get ye noble ship back! All ye 'ave to do is challenge a current noble clan. Ah wud suggest joinin' de fight against the Starbreakers and de Dawnsworn.

*Morgrim listens closely to what Mili has to say and begins to speak.*

"And w'at good would gettin' our nobility back do us? We will continue t'e serve under a dictator, 'o t'inks not'in' o' us. T'is isn't just about t'e Blackaxes, t'is is about all t'e Dwarves 'o old 'o wish t'e see t'e Dwarven Kingdom restored t'e it's former glory, which was lost many years ago. Aye, t'ere are t'in's done t'at we should all regret but per'aps we must seek a more 'onourable path, and continue in t'e ways o' our forefat'ers. T'ey would 'ave NEVER bowed to a dictator and would 'ave NEVER stood by as t'e Kingdom fell into t'e clutch o' tyranny. Aye, t'e Blackaxes are weaker t'an t'ey once were but t'ere is a chance t'e rebuild... We can restore ourselves to w'at we once were, before Aegis fell to t'e undead and wit' t'at, bring 'onour upon t'e memories o' our ancestors."

*Morgrim chuckles as he exchanges words with Mili. He raises his voice, slightly angered at the request for him to silence his beliefs.*

"Lad, I 'ave nae care fer w'at t'is King can do t'e me, my words are as open to 'im as t'ey are to ye and t'e clans o' t'is city. If t'in's are not done, 'o knows w'at is t'e become of I and t'e rest o' me clan? 'owever, I will not stand by and watch as a tyrant leads t'is nation and disgraces w'at my fat'er and t'e Dwarves o' old fought and died fer. If t'is is t'e lead int' rebellion, so be it, I 'ave a lust fer war as any other Dwarf and will see it t'rough t'at t'e old ways of t'e Dwarves are brought back once again."

*Rogan watches from the shadows silently*

"Hhmm, they think they can remove our nobility? We are not what we once were but we shall not stand for this. Or perhaps, they have forgotten all we have done for them, all the lives sacrificed for the good of the kingdom. The great dwarven kingdom is no longer great but instead greedy. A greedy kingdom ruled by a greed tyrant. This is not what my father would have wanted..."

*Dom, relitivly quite during most of the talking slowly aproaches Morgrim and whispers in his ear*

While I think yer right on most of what ye have said, exept about me clan, I can not openly help ye ,unless me clan does, when and if a civil war were tu break out But if I can help ye in any way just ask. I used tu live in yer clan hall in Karik when I was Balthar's Thane and I wuld hate te see ye all killed over doin what is de right ting tu do fer dwarfs as a race.
