Hello Asulonians!

As some of you, if not most of you know, we have a Dynamic Map, which can be found over at http://login.lordofthecraft.net:1337/ .

You may have seen that some parts of the map (Cloud Temple, Alras, etc.) have been labelled out with their locations and names, as well as a icon denoting what they are.

However, this is a rather... huge job. It took me quite a while to find out what exactly each location was (The only tools I had were tineye and the region info tool, and even those rarely worked.).

And then Alras has been conquered, so I need to change all of those.

So, I thought to myself, why not find out WHERE people want labelled, and if they want the map labelled at all!

So here you go, a vote.

If the majority vote yes, then I will label the map.

If the majority vote no, I will not, and remove all labels from the map.

Why did I choose to do this, you ask? Well, firstly - have you ever played a game such as Oblivion? You exit the sewers, and open your map... and this. Just this.

Doesn't that have a impact? I think it does. New players should be blown away by the sheer scale of the lands, and this helps us do so.

What other reasons are there? Well, firstly, there's this much debated thing called 'Common Knowledge'. How much exactly would new players know about these lands? How much should their character know? Surely someone who says in their bio that they've lived in Arethor for 30 years should have some knowledge of the lands. So, if they don't know where Arethor is, but their character should know, then they can take a glance at the map, and the problem is easily solved!

So, there you have it. The Dynmap. Vote for it as you wish.

As long as it gets updated when it is labeled, I'm sure that even this updated one is out of date by now.

Erm, just looking at the map as is, it still needs to be updated. For example "Kelasto" no longer looks like the way it does on the map... nor is it even Kelasto anymore.

I would have to say , label most things , perhaps not everything , but just the major places and places that are good for people to explore and so on. I have been noticing the labels crop up and I do like them , it does make it seem like there is just so much to explore in the world.

While many will say that labeling the map may encourage metagaming, I support it full-fledged. It will allow us to demonstrate the vast reaches of Asulon to the new community and also give us an idea of Asulon's size and where a specific settlement or structure is located for OOC purposes.

I think players should label what they want because labeling EVERYTHING is a bit much...

Label somethings so we can get an idea of it. I hate walking everywhere with fear i might get killed because I went to the "wrong place"

Seeing admits a kind of handout map, I believe it should be labeled as such maps would be~

So, what would you like for that? Let people /modreq places they want labelled? I'm okay with this.

However, it could swamp our modreq system... maybe we could make another one for mapping requests.

We could even have a Mapping Team! And a Mapping Application Team! And a Mapping Application team Application!

I think the Arma Luna fast travel boat is labeled? I thought it was suppose to be secret. Just leads to meta.

I feel that labeling everything would lead to metagaming of locations. Just have the main capitals and cloud temple marked but not much else. Exploring is part of the fun for new characters.

Mapping everything WILL lead to metagaming. By revealing hidden plots or unknowable lands, you are literally making it possible for even the smallest player to "stumble upon" secretive operations, hidden cults, etc. Suddenly, everyone's hunting each other and in comes the Holy Oren Empire to crush all of the temples, churches, and the like all across the map.

This, I do not want.

Oh, and it will prevent the GMs from being swarmed with requests to map everything, thus making that "Map Team" unneeded.

Seriously, we have too many teams.

Maybe only show major cities and nation borders and possibly roads to show new players where to go and such. Showing everyone's homes may overcrowd the map.
