Inquisitors

What are the Inquisitors?

The Inquisitors are an order of monastic knights, who do the will of God, and the Church. They are led by a Grand Master, and the Church. They often take trips of pilgrimage, and seek out any manner of heathen, or witch. They are not a normal order of knights, and are very independent. Very rarely do they take squires, or those who are not already some type of knight, or holy man. The Inquisitors are not only knights, and a number of them are monks. The duty of the Inquisitors is to the Church, and God. They are harsh men, who know the world is cruel, but are also fair. They follow a monastic code, and are religious to a fanatical extent, without being out of control.

Inquisitors can control their emotions very well, and when on missions or prosecuting those suspected of heresy or any type of sin, they seem to be emotionless and imposing men of God. They are less of a Knight, and more of an extension of the Church itself. When the Church is displeased with an individual, or community, it may send one of more Inquisitors out to deal with the matter.

Some Inquisitors choose to take Oaths of Chassidy, however it is not required. Those who do take this oath, generally become Chaplains, but not all do. Inquisitors are not required to live in the Fortress Monastery, but it is recommended, and free shelter and food is available to those who choose to stay in the Monastery. The Order is a branch of the Church, and must listen to anything said by the Church.

Monastic Code

Burn the heretic

Organization

The Inquisitors organization is a system of ranking similar to Knights. They have a type of squire, but once again, they hardly take squires and prefer to take those already skilled and learned in the ways of Knighthood

The Grand Inquisitor:

This is the leader of the Order. He hardly takes charge, and only really takes charge in times war, or when several Inquisitors are needed. He settles disputes between members of the Inquisitors Order, and makes sure everything is running smoothly in Order. The Grand Inquisitor comes to this position by a majority vote of the Inquisitors, and Chaplains, or by Godfrey, but usually a vote. He is one who has committed his life to the Order, and is not only skilled, but experienced. Most Grandmasters step down after a time, and choose a Inquisitor who they prefer, however it is still up to the general consensus to decide the next Grand Inquisitor. However, if a Grand Inquisitor is found to be a heretic, witch, or has broken the Monastic code severely, he can be removed by a unanymous decision by the Emperor, or Chaplains all in agreement. Otherwise it is for life

First Chaplain]

First Chaplain is a distinguished title held only by one at a time. They are the Chaplains that have been chosen to carry the burden of hearing their brothers sins, purging the church, and relieving dying brothers of duty. He carries the Armor of the First Chaplain, and the Crozius of the Duty.

Each are very important relics, and very formidable. Made from the finest metals aand 20 years of making by Alexander Horen, who was renowned for his smithing skills. Along the inside of the armor are etchings of prayer and duty, reminding the First Chaplain of hist duty and the burden he must take.

The Crozius is lined with spikes on it's edges and a spike in the middle jutting up a few inches, and the entire Crozius of Duty is covered in the lettering of the duty and responsability he has taken upon himself.

Chaplain:

Chaplains are senior Inquisitor who have risen to the occasion, and have become Inquisitor who take the role of a Pastor, or Preacher. They give confessions to other Inquisitor, and those who are more than common Knights or individuals.

High Sanatore

The High Sanatore is an individual within the Sanatore's who has proven their ability as commanders, and required traits to lead them. His word is valued as much as the First Chaplain's and can command High Inquisitor's if needed, but not if they are already being commanded by the First Chaplain.

The High Sanatore wears the Armor of Will and his weapon is the Sword of Faith. The armor is inscribed with prayers of protection and aid for the brothers of the order, while the sword is inscribed with writings of smirking God's foes and all enemies set before him.

The weapon and armor are as prized as the First Chaplains weapon and armor, and we're made in forges of the hottest flame, the same forges all Inquisitorial things are made. They are blessed also as all Inquisitorial things are.

Sanatore

The Magically Blessed of the Order. They hold the rank Equivilant of Inquisitor, but are distinguished by their ability. They can use magic to suit the needs of the situation and to aid the Order in battle, or otherwise. They are highly respected individuals and are seen as blessed by the Order for their God given gifts.

A Sanatore can also be a High Inquisitor should he prove himself worthy, and from there he can be chosen to be elevated to the rank of High Sanatore.

High Inquisitor:

High Inquisitors are some Inquisitors who have shown intense faith and commitment to the Order and the Church. They are promoted to High Inquisitor and can lead group missions if needed. They act as leaders and generally inspire others into acts of heroism or glorious acts of battle. Their words is held higher in regard than Inquisitors as they have shown they deserve it.

Inquisitor:

The standard member of the Order. They are similar to Knights, but follow less the code of Chivalry, and are more inclined to seek out sinners, witches, and heretics. They are often solitary, and take pilgrimages. They are usually former Knights, who have taken a more Holy attitude.

Apprentices:

These are the few who have been accepted into the order, but have not previously been Knighted. They take similar roles as Squires, but are usually at the Paladin Monastery. They spend much time praying, and performing actions such as maintaining the Monastery.

Monks:

Monks are generally one of the lowest ranks of the Order. They are the main caretakers of the Order, and have a life devoted to the Church, and God. They are in no way however, incompetent. They are usually skilled in Hand to Hand, or skilled with a blade. This is a last resort for monks, as they spend their lives devoid of sin.

Tool of the Inquisitors

There are many tools available to the Inquisitors. Some of the more common ones are the sword, shield, mace, and various other tools of war. This is not all however, and those are the more basic tools. Inquisitors may use money, lies, half truths, and even the Church to get what they need.

However, some Inquisitors prefer other methods, such as torture. Torture could be used on suspected heretics, witches, criminals, or those suspected of hiding them.

Not all Inquisitors do this however. Some stick to the simple sword, and faith. This can prove to be ineffective at times however. Psychological warfare is another thing Inquisitors will use. Things such as faceless masks, blindfolds, and stressful situations.

Inquisitors have privileges that others simply do not. They are the only ones besides those allowed by the Pope or Emperor to carry golden engraved crosses upon their armor and weaponry or standard (personal flags)

Inquisitors also have been granted the use of armor like that of the Teutons. It is to help them preform at the demanding duties they are required to do such as long treks or extended combat.

Authority of the Inquisition

The Authority of Inquisitors is vast. They have the authority to pick someone out of a crowd, who looks like he might be an enemy of the Church and State. On missions, the Inquisitor authority is often enough to go over a kings power, as it is a mission of the Church.

If suspected of heresy, an Inquisitor has every right to take you for questioning, and do as he pleases with you. Whether he kills you or not is up to him. The Inquisitors only listen to the heads of the Church, the Emperor himself, and God.

In times of emergency the Inquisitor has the Authority of the Church, but cannot command knights, save they have permission from the Church or Emperor and proof. Otherwise they may command bannermen, soldiers, guards, and anyone to do things until the situation is resolved

High Inquisitors can command knights in states of emergency or while doing the work of the Church of Emperor and can do everything an Inquisitor can. High Inquisitors can even remove people from duty temporarily, or permanently if the situation calls for it.

Chaplains can take more charge than even High Inquisitors and if needed, can force a king to submit until the Church business is done. In matters where he needs to command knights or such, he does not even need permission as he has proven himself worthy to carry the Church with him better than Inquisitors and High Inquisitors.
