Halflings in 3.0

I really like the first picture that Dalek has put up, of the hobbit hole with the small garden. My opinion may not be much, since as the server is down i have never been in LotC except as a wandering soul, but from being a big fan of the hobbit and lord of the rings and the peaceful halfling way of life, i think most houses should be burrows in a hill with a cozy hobbit built entrance and a small garden. I think small differences are key, such as some homes opening directly onto their fenced in garden and front gate (bag end style) while some have a little winding path that leads behind the hill to the entrance, for more privacy perhaps. Either way, good luck!

We need names for the Inn we just built, it's looking good so far. The sort of format we're looking for in the name is like 'The Drunken Sheep' or 'The Prancing Pony'. Preferably it should reference to something that happened in our history or geography, but if it doesn't then that's fine.

Well, we were under attack by a swarm of arachnids once... "The Spider's Legs" maybe? ;)

Perhaps we ought to take a less terrorizing event though, and go with something more peaceful. Some I suggest are, "The Leaping Frog" or "The Sleeping Bear"

The Winking Skeever! jk

I like the Leaping Frog that Bili mentioned. It could be completely random, like Pip named the inn The Drunken Sheep because he saw a sheep while he was trying to think of a better name.

Could the name of the Halfling place in 3.0 be the same as an existing town in Middle Earth? I really do love such names as Oatbarton, Brockenborings, and Tuckborough... But we could probably come up with an original name that suits just as well.

And I agree with the suggestion of making the Halfling place in 3.0 more spread out, with a few more buildings above ground, but not too much.

Sort of like this:

I might consider being a halfling again, and I'm sure the halflings will have a beautiful home in 3.0. I'd also suggest larger homes, like Bag End. When I roleplayed as a halfling we built a really nice smial based off Bag End on the outskirts of Skravia.

Some suggestions ;

' The Grey Mane Inn '

' The Toadsfoot '

' The Burning Pipe '

' The Brewing Pig '

' The Drinking Elder '

' The Weedpatch Inn '

' The Sea Monsters Retreat '

' The Cackling Fire '

' The Magical Mushroom Inn ' ( That's a reference to the Mushroom tree we have , not the drug :b )

' The Winking Mouse '

' The Waterfall Inn '

' The Stout Oak Inn '

Just some suggestions off the top of my head in a few minutes.

Those ones are good, although 'The Spiders Legs' may not be a very warm or inviting name of an Inn for hungry travelers to stop by in.

Yeah it can be random, we could just leave it unnamed until something of significance happens that gives us a good name for it.

Well we can't exactly copy names from the Shire but we can take inspiration from their names. But then again it should bear some significance with Halfling history or geography, for example Branborough was so named after the Brandybuck family. And yes, our home will be beautiful, and the burrow more expansive and personal to the halfling.

The howling wolf?

I'm not sure if that's a reference to the brutal murder of Faldo's dog as Tibb mercilessly burnt him to death, or what. But Faldo wouldn't like it, bad memories...

I liked Bili's name of the town for "Oakshire". It does not resemble anything to do with Geography/History although It's simply a nice name. It rolls off the tongue.

For the Inn Names, I'm liking the "Retreat" feel of a name. It feels cozy and safe inside of it. It could be after an preditory animal such as the wolf which we have had trouble of like "The Wolf's Retreat". Or we can go another route and put in a Family name to replace the Animal such as "Brandybuck's Retreat".

(We already used Brandybuck once, another name would be better.)

Hrmm... I'd say bigger towns... Oh, and perhaps a place incase of emergencies. I.E a big secret hole only Halflings can fit in incase Orcs get hungry and try to eat our sweet little feet.
