CosmicWhaleShark 2488 Share Posted November 12, 2012 In terms of medicine, how far have High Elves actually progressed? Due to the fact that I've seen some posts where High Elves are able to deduce that there are pain receptors and nerves and such, and consequently my character has used this in explanations for why his patients will be feeling certain sensations and pains. lugarthecougar 57 Share Posted November 12, 2012 I believe that the medical standpoint would best be left to the two most accomplished HE doctors/'scientists' Mithradites and Mercury.

That is a bit of a difficult situation, as knowledge is devided among the High Elves. To our knowledge, Lucion Sullas (Mithradites) is the only one to have fully researched living beings to the point where he's cut them to pieces. And maybe Kolyat (Mercury). Although they might know about nerves, he would not share this information with anyone.
Tentoa 3161 Share Posted November 12, 2012 Actually my own character Malineer is an expert on Anatomy, granted his knowledge isn't quite as advanced as what is known today, but he's discovered that when bones scrap against nerve endings in injuries, it can damage them and the person can loose feeling in that area. He has named them "Receptors".

Fredfort (jens6851) 283 Share Posted November 12, 2012 I don't get it.. I've never seen anyone, at all. Say out of character. "The High-Elves probably invented it." Never. I feel with you if you think you're getting blamed for a few powergamey things out there. But I don't see the big deal. And by the way.. Creating a post would only encourage people to go out there and make jokes about it... Keep everything cool in that City Silver of yours. And just calm it ever so slightly... It's going to be fine.. And by the way.. Glasses isn't really a PG invention.. Telescopes are invented and I've seen MANY people with elder characters having painted glasses onto their skins.. Keep it calm... It isn't really that big of a deal...
Mithradites 1168 Share Posted November 13, 2012 I think the main point Sythaerin is trying to get across is that he sees people claiming that any modern-ish items they may have orginated from High Elves. I imagine he fears people thinking we're powergaming tools and inventions that we have had no part in. We are already somewhat detested by a fair throng of the community, and I suppose he wants to try and curb that hatred. ;)
Jorgen Reimer 74 Share Posted November 13, 2012 To be honest I don't see a problem, but that may also be, because I RP as a human. But I wouldn't be surprised if someone should respond with that, since Elves are the most intelligent race per quoata, so it wouldnt be unusualy that they invented most things first, and then it was exported to the rest of the world. PS. Glasses are from around 1300-1500 if not eailer. For medicine, well, it was not unusual to use hemp og opium to relief the scenses, but I cannot respond to a precise case which you may have xperianced with "modern" medicine in your rps. PSS. I dont think anyone would find it powergamish if elves invented most things. The rest of the nations arent the most englightned nations in the world, either because they dont find a need for it, or because they view it as dangerous. PSSS. Sorry for grammer mistakes, had to type fast.
MrSyth 637 Author Share Posted November 13, 2012 I've understood most of you don't see the problem we're having. It might've been a little exaggerated as well. It's just a basic thread to say, we're not the ones to blame for modern things around the world that shouldn't be permitted. For things that have pre-existed as I described in the main post, there is no problem. Thank you for understanding, this thread may now be closed. ~MrSythaerin
