High Elves can't invent everything. [OOC]

Good Day, fellow LotC'ers.

The High Elven community and I have recently stumbled upon a problem. It seems that more and more people are using 20th-21st century items. When spoken to about this not being possible, it is often said that the character thinks 'High Elves probably invented it.' I'm here to say, this is not how it works.

Seeing as most of us have multiple characters, we see the world. We see RP in all cities, and know what's happening. We see the way people think about High Elves, and are fine with most of it. But this is bugging us. Most of the modern items used are medical items, such as glasses. Most people go fine with things like these, even though they are un-RP. When people do note it and talk to the person about it ICly, the character often says he/she thought it was invented by High Elves. When this goes on OOCly, the blame often gets put on us, not being clear with what we have- and haven't invented.

So here you have it. We haven't invented anything that can't be found within our subforums, or hasn't been RPly announced. We might be a smart, scientifically advanced subrace, but we don't have any more modern features then the others. We thank you for understanding this.

I don't see the problem with glasses. This isn't real life so some things can slide and be made out-of-order of our timeline I suppose. They just look good on some characters, and they don't hurt anyone, so I think they're fine.

Also: It could be for fashion reasons? Just regular pieces of glass on a frame. I'm sure some people have done it irl too.

Perhaps someone need to write lore on how these things were invented? If someone took the time to have 'supposedly' invented glasses and goggles, then had widespread its designs, then all eye-piece wearers can rejoice and have reason.

At a certain point, we have been told (not going to quote the person) to even have discovered relativity, and telescopes, as well as a few more scientific discoveries.

I'm afraid you miss the point in that some if these things shouldn't be invented at all yet. If I used a nuke in game, this wouldn't be something you could solve in character. Not everything can be solved IC, and this has been a real problem for us lately.

I don't think OP is addressing an in character thing. How can you ICly blame someone for inventing glasses? That's a good thing, isn't it?

OOC is something different. Honestly, I am not aware mass HE-inventing is a thing now, but even if it is it seems irrelevant. People who can't OOCly produce the RP for an unusual commodity they have should be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Someone who is trying to scapegoat another for the 21st century stuff they're hauling around is obviously trolling.

Is this issue really as widespread as to warrant a general notice about it? I am curious, because otherwise a thread like this will lead to more issues than it solves.
