I don't understand, why should we have a "Badlands"? Shouldn't we have a corrupted 'Eden' instead, where countries are constantly fighting over near unlimited resources in a king-of-the-hill competition? I haven't read the lore, sure, but having races compete makes much ore more sense, at least to me personally.

Whats so wrong with allowing people who want to have a PVP castle siege duke it out in the badlands. Id much rather this happen then some randomness where the defenders of the castle are using RP and suddenly get rushed by random ladder placing, also allows for much more unique siege styles since the areas would be completely unprotected, no one as any right to complain about a no RP ladder up a wall, so sneak attacks and the like could occour without anyone meta gaming it or crying power gaming on people who sneak in with no RP, just a good 'ol fashion siege for smaller groups, also would this could satiate the pvpers enough to have more RP based sieges on other lands. Also whats wrong with islands tailored to each race, would you rather have realistic spits of sand in the middle of the ocean??

But it doesn't make the map dangerous. It just makes one place dangerous. No one is going to be afraid of staying and want to get back in the boats to go to 3.0.

Well if it works well for that area, then perhaps it could be expanded for 3.0 to create a fear filled map as a whole.

Are you really serious? No-RP killing in the whole map?

Yeah, I can understand you believe we should have PVP on LoTC as well, but their is a limit between having a PVP zone and transforming the map into a No-RP killzone as a whole. That's what we call a PVP server.

I second what Spam said. No PvP with no RP for the whole map. It pretty much defeats the purpose of the server if that happens.

You take my use of the word 'expand' too literally, I didn't mean to allow no-rp all over the map, such an idea would be ridiculous.

I appreciate it could have been worded better, and I hope you appreciate that your response could have been worded better, because it seems rather rude to me in all honesty.

I meant expand as in it being improved upon and developed further, which might then be implemented server wide.

It is a well known fact that the entire server would collapse into oblivion and anarchy should people be allowed to PVP.

If you want, feel free to stand around in your text-flooded hardcore RP areas. You'll only be contributing to the eventual decline of LOTC into a lifeless and boring server. Fact is that LOTC needs to be fun again, and a place where you can go on your own or with some mates and experience the possibility of danger around every turn should be encouraged.

I actually feel sorry for the people that oppose this, but I am sure once this is implemented they will be converted to a more laid back and fun person.

"This is an RP server, not a PvP server" is a poor cliche argument; this is a fun Minecraft experience above all.

If you wish to have thirty minute text-fights and enforce a no-fun attitude to your peers, there are plenty of RP forums which provide that niche and do it far better then LotC. LotC may be an RP server, but it's also a Minecraft server to unwind and enjoy oneself. People seem to forget that LotC is a game to have fun, not a game to prove who is the best, most hardcore roleplayer. It's how we became the largest, most expansive RP server in the first place by priotizing fun and grand-scale light RP events. We will certain lose that title if we continue this no-fun strict RP attitude.

Exactly.  Honestly, we play on a Minecraft Sever.  I don't understand why it is that everyone opposes game mechanics to the extent that they do.  It's fun about all, and I've had much more fun fighting in a battle than typing about my love interaction with a hammer.  I agree to having majority roleplay, as It's a major part of the server that also makes the server entertaining, however we need more events such as in Aegis.  Honestly, people want shiny things, allow them to obtain it through events, roleplay, and whatever else they want to do.  If you want to ***** about one area of the map, where you don't have to go that will not condemn PvP, so be it.  I'd honestly rather that area be 'enforced' PvP, with RP as No-RP killing is simply stupid.  It's more or less if you want to fight, you will still have to do the normal roleplay beforehand, afterwards, ect, although you can 'force' PvP onto others.  Everyone *******, in one way or another.  I'm bitching for one side of the argument, the GMs should do what they think is correct.  They're GMs for a reason, they're 'elected' for a reason.  They can probably make better decisions than most of us and we can't decide on anything.  Do whatever you think is right for the server, i've bitched 'nuff.

I have an idea that may make everyone kk that was stated on front page:

Center island keep to rp, but have no VAs required to do any VA on it. I think that would be the mix between PVP - RP on central. This way its not pure pvp, yet its different from the rest of the islands and so forth, dangerous. Hey, if you want another dangerous aspect to the server OTHER than the two single options given, add a new race for chosen people like the undead back in Aegis. In my opinion, the Aegis RP with the undead looked completely epic and is what brought me here along with the RP Lore. Why not make 2.5.2 island something like a weaker Iblees on it or something. That would 100% scare RP players just to think about it without adding this PVP or No VA aspects. Just a thought there because everyone's thoughts for dangerous is no VAs and/or PvP. Why not add an evil race like the Undead again for 2.5.2 run by players chosen by VAT or GMs? It could be anywhere from another undead race to infected plague to foul beasts.

I don't understand. Can a PvP supporter explain to me why they can't go to another server to PvP if they enjoy it? Simply bring your friends and go to town.

There's countless posts regarding why people support PvP here; use your brain and look for them, the question has been asked and answered.

I'll quote what Gaius said about it though, I liked his response quite a bit.

The way I feel about it is, if the person requests in a one-vs.-one environment to roleplay fight, oblige. That being said, when you purposely have a violent group, PvP should be utilized to give the grand effect of 'these people are here to spill blood'. That being said, you should still have one person emoting and roleplaying the general maneuvers of said group. For the Teutonic Order, I was that person giving the orders and giving general emotes motioning what we were doing. Likewise, if the people weren't 'whiney', we would give even more emotes to our combat, but yes we did rely on PvP. What people seem to omit out of the 'If you want PvP, then this makes this a PvP server' is that firstly, PvP servers typically have no lore, no cohesion, and no artificial governing in the figurative sense; likewise no storyline. When using PvP in an RP server, you are still playing the role, but of a soldier that lets the reflexes do the talking. In fiction, you are easily allowed to have the reader 'in this case the person being attacked', to work his own narrative in of what you are doing. Read Chuck Polahniak, read Twelve Blue, many stories do that in which it is the responsibility of the reader to narrate the story to themselves. That being said, the violent group cannot '*****' when the victim describes the attack ICly in a way he doesn't like. When you commit to PvP, it is they who are put through the rigors of describing the narrative.

I had been looking for a post, and I'd never found a coherent answer. I disagree with Gaius' post, but at least know I understand the reasoning. Thank you.

I am going to sit back, and watch the server burn.

Because of a completely optional area that is implemented on a temporary map?

Take a chill pill, the lot of you.
