The Second Ultimatum.

 Share

Recommended Posts

Please, expand on how my arguments prove these things. You spout this yet you have not backed it up. I resort to the sword as it is the right thing to do. We have sat by and done nothing for far too long. If I lusted after blood I would not have offered a way out. I do not shield my intentions, I seek to bring a fair government and votes to Malinor before it is too late and we become another Kingdom under Oren. Call me what you will, but your insults prove nothing and merely dig your hole deeper. I can barely see you as the shadows have covered you so.

I rush so we have a fighting chance in this new world. If we do not fight then Oren would gladly squash us like a bug in the coming weeks, and without a proper and decent council they would do so very easily.

I wish to behead the current body and replace it with a new, much more beautiful head. I do not wish to claim it as a whole, I wish for the people to vote for it. Please, do not keep bringing up this same point. It's getting quite tiresome repeating it. I do not pursue power. I merely have the best interests of Malinor in mind.

Doctor Ludivic hears talk of beheading a body and putting a new head on. Obviously, it's a metaphor, but he doesn't know this. He thinks he might get along with this man.

"Some Elves?

Talking to those around you is one thing, but have you spoken to the Council in question? For it seems as though you have lot even gone to them once, maybe to the lower council, but not to those in office.

I speak of Death and destruction that you bring because most likely, they will not accept this offer you so boldly thrust into their mists. If you do then go through with what you say if this is the case, then you shall bring death with your army, you shall bring destruction. And you will be no better than they for it... and the Elves will slip even deeper into the woods and away from the Path that Malin would've wanted his kin to take.

I am not ignorant of the going's on of this place, and I would like to remind you how we have only just managed to brave the long journey from here, of course not much would've changed in this time, they've spent all their efforts trying to build Malinor back up, what will marching an Army into this place do but soil the wheat fields and burn the Barley in the summer night air? You will destroy the efforts of your own kin under the guise of looking out for the interests of your people.

The Interests of your people lie in your ability to talk, not demand. Not blood shed.

You will liberate a broken people through your own actions if you choose to attack them.

If there are those who have cause for concern, I ask them, why have you not chosen to speak? Instead, you choose to back this one? He?! He who will bring yet another WAR to this land? Have none of you looked to the Northern lands and beyond still. This is not the time to choose to be on each other like wolves. Dragons have reared their bloody heads, and something else, like monsters fester in those lands to which I've seen with my own eye as has many others.

I implore you young one to speak, not act, to talk, not swing, and to be peaceful as Malin intended...

Or is it another reason why you choose this? A darker reason you keep under you own guise of good will? Perhaps you choose to use this opportunity to place yourself into power! How do we truly know the good intent of one who chooses to simply come with an army to the doorstep of Malin's hall hmm? How could we trust such as a youngling to make the right choices once he has an entire nation under his control, and to give it to the people? What stops you from taking it all for yourself and not giving it up?

You talk of aiming to stop foreign armies by marching into these lands and occupying it by... bringing a foreign force in with you at its' head? Does that not seem somewhat contradictory to your actions of good will to already go against your own word and goals?

We do not require another war in these lands, I ask of you to choose another path, a path to peace without bloodshed or force."

"If you intend to truly protect us from Oren, you would not go about ways such as these. A nation torn and quite literally warring against eachother is one more prone to attack. I have visited Oren, learned of the culture, of their perceptions of Mali kind. You are the exact thing that will cause a break in this uneasy treaty.

You intend to be our self-proclaimed salvation, rather, you will be our reckoning. Your way out has us choosing between an army, or tyrannical proclamations.

You shout and slander and spout your underminings. Meanwhile the only thing I see before me is a darkborn very well acquainted at playing upon a stage. Here you are now, speaking your lines, altering them in various ways. However they are all the same practiced phrases in the end.

You do not deserve to make claims such as these. A false head can never achieve true beauty. Such is obvious within nature. Your artificial and forceful hand threaten to tear away our very heritage and morals along with our apparent corrupt council."

Elorna listens to the crowd from the shade of a low oak-tree, scowling at the ground. At last she sighs, and lifts her eyes to stare curiously at Rhazev.

"But why is it you think resorting to violence is the right thing to do?

I'm sorry, sir, your intentions may be very noble, but they are overshadowed by the brutality of your methods. You come here, a stranger to Malinor, claiming to bring three armies upon us if we do not submit to your demands. And you think we will accept one who threatens with such violence as having our best interest at heart? What you're trying to do might be good for Malinor, it might not, but you have already sabotaged your cause.

And who is it that supports you? Because the only Mali I see before me are those who have long abandoned their forests to live under the rule of Valah."

She falls silent and clasps her hands together, turning her head and cautiously eying the armored Adorellan.

Rumil tilts his head, as he listens to the expected barrage of questions

" I urge you to remember the fact that and the end of this, it will be the Elven People voting for a High Prince, yet some of you still have the audacity to claim he himself is worsening the situation in Malinor?

No. He's getting it over with quickly and giving you the same end result which you have all been after, a vote for a new Council. "

"There is a right way to do things, however, Elorna, your masters have refused reform. Every avenue short of violence has been take, to no avail. I have heard Kolyat say that Malinor has no enemies, and he is correct. The High Council has enemies as numerous as the sands. I am sure many of you believe what you are doing is right for Malinor, however, both sides are both right and wrong. High Prince Kolyat must go, and there must be a democratic transition that I know, from talkng to them, mali favor. The abuse wrought by the Sentinels must end, and, and minas must be reintroduced. You have trapped many Mali within Malinor, with no portable wealth, so that they cannpt leave. It was a vile thing to do, and that is why many are now returning to overthrow you, disheartened by you abuse of their rights and seeing you are weak, prone to be taken over by another foreign power. If there is no transition, the dwarves, and most likely Oren will come. So, I call for a compromise. A refredum, in bthe High Elven fashion, on whether there must be a democratic transition. All citizens of Malinor, Mali or otherwise, may vote. I believe that this is the only way forward."

*Vanir listens and grins, baring teeth in a vicious smile. He nods his head, a deep sense of satisfaction that Malinor can become strong once again.*

"You talk of us betraying our old ways by doing this... Do the High Council represent the old ways? No. We shall be as a Phoenix, given new life and emerging from the ashes.  What is now is a withered creature, and only when it turns to ash can true beauty and power rise.  However, this is not the way that was wished... No, this is a sad day for all. We are left with no choice."

"Ebs, I'm surprised you support them. What they propose... may be better for Malinor, as I said. But it is difficult to listen to their reasoning when they threaten a sword to our necks. And if a such a change were made in Malinor, I don't think it should be carried out by those who have not been seen in the forest since Asulon and only now choose to show themselves with armies at their heels. Unlike you, they have not tried any other methods, instead they jump straight to war. If they were so dissatisfied, why have we heard nothing from them until now?"

"It is that I, Briarspoken, am not entirely familiar with this new strife amongst the Branchmen, but what Boughman Ebs says just last seems to strike a sense of wisdom. Let there be a Will Counting of the Branchmen, as so to satisfy both sides. One says this reform movement does not have the support of the Branchmen, and the other that the Branchmen Council is not favored by most Branchmen. The Will Counting shall determine who is correct, no?"

Ol' Tree'ugger sits in a tree overlooking the square. His fingers tap on his staff as he hums to himself, lost in thought. He smiles as he notices the dark figure circling the crowd, and scratches his beard as he watches Blundermore talk to the elf.

"Dark Times," he mutters.

"During my time on the Lower Council, I attempted in vain to start a democratic transition, with some assistance from other Lower Council members and Prince Khel. We were blocked at every turn for being foolish children. I say, let us decide who is right, who truly represents the feelings of the people of Malinor. If there is satisfaction with the High Council, the there will be no issue the vote going in the favor of ancient traditions. But, if the people will a democracy into existance, it shall become so."

You have heard plenty from us. Dissatisfaction has been made loud and clear for many years now, though the gap between the council and the common Elves such as us is too large. We have watched as others tried other methods, and we have watched as those methods failed. You may say it is un-Elven to raise a sword, but it is more un-Elven to sit back and allow Malinor to be molested as it is now. You say that we have not been in Malinor, though we have. I myself returned here a three of four Elven months after the move to Asulon, and the others did not long follow me.

The way forward is to clear the council and start afresh. A vote by the people must be had, and we simply cannot do this just by suggesting it to the High Council, they would hear none of it. If they refuse then so be it, but they will be forcefully removed.

*Enters*

I have come to address claims of the sentinels, Orym has yet to make a statement on them so I will address their issues with you.

Prince Oceas has hired two people to aid the sentinels. I myself was a warden of Malinor aswell Ebs I have known you since aegis times. Your plans to teach and own a school clearly have left your head since our last meeting.

I will be the first to admit the sentinels are not a perfect military force, what you confuse is that the sentinels are not a military, they are a guard. They are to protect the people and council of Malinor.

You claim they are corrupt and vile, however they have followed the chain of command to the letter. You wish for commander Orym to step down when all he has done is protect the city as ordered.

I've been hired as an advisor and sentinel and work with the new guards, they have ideas of being all powerful and invicible what you must understand is they are not old and wise such as some of you here. I have spent two elven hours straight working with them in one training sessions. They are willing to learn they just need to be taught. I've only been here three elven days and I see an improvement the troops are now more confident willing to die for Malinor.

I ask a peaceful resolution can be solved. The sentinels do not wish to silence the people nor do we wish for bloodshed. We do not enjoy beheading our kin as you say. Many of us joined the sentinels to defend against bandits and uphold the fair laws set out by the council.

I ask both party's to work together creating fair laws and terms for if you do march on the city the sentinels will be forced to defend the council and slay its own people. I might also remind you that the white rose as per treaty must defend the council if the war erupts and it will not just be sentimels fighting.

Now as a citizen of Malinor i must say the malins have their flaws however Mina's can be earned far to easily before coming to the sentinels I would slay these beasts in the wilds earning upwards of 4000 Minas for one elven day of work. Removing malins would cause mass amounts of the work force risking their lives in the wilds for fortune Only to come back and purchase property within Malinor then leaving them vacant as they made fortunes in the wilds. Causeing the city to remain vacant and seeming dead and prone to attack.

To finalize I am not an advocate for malins but I understand why they are introduced.

((done from a iPhone sorry for any spelling/grammar))

"Renewal must be made. But I refuse to conform to the likes of you. Unlike you, I pride myself in my methods. I do not write a song from hearing others' stories. And I most certainly do not renew our councils through the forceful hand of a war rabid, tyrannical darkborn. Allow me to do my work, and we shall see changes for the better. Impede my progress and you will regret your pursuits of leadership and power.

A man of the people would put his faith in the people. You truly call yourself that? You truly think yourself that? Then prove it and call off your armies, embrace the people, rather than frighten them into submission. I am done here. Consider a thorough introspection, should you truly be noble, and answer my question.

Do you think this is the only approach?

Do not answer now. I have no more time for you."
