((Casus Belli represents a justification for war that is recognized as legitimate, reasonable or justified by other noble, religious leaders or whatever the predominant power structure is. In our case this is the Emperor.

If you do not agree with another lord post here asking to be allowed, and reasons etc, it would be nice to also write something even if you do agree so we can keep dates etc.))

((More importantly this is used for land claims. You may write a RP letter regarding why you think you should have claim to the land, for what reason, what right and so on and I will deem it either rightful or not. On the other hand, you may write to the Emperor in this thread stating that you wish for a claim to land granted by him and explain why you should be better, and honored to be given such.))

The Emperor sits at his desk reading the various letters from the Lords.

From the Dreadfort, Augustus has a letter sent off to the Emperor, regarding a claim on land.

"My Emperor, blessings upon you and your House,

Four days ago, marks the thirty fifth year that I have served you, and Oren. Three elven weeks ago, with the death of my sworn man Scar Eye, marks the seventeenth man in my service to die for Oren in a time of peace. Today, marks the fifteenth time since the landing in Anthos men of the Teutonic Order have approached my Dreadfort, and threatened my family and holdings.

For decades I have patiently waited, and watched - as new men entered your service and quickly surpassed me in rank and title. With no merit of their own, no prowess in battle, they achieved what I bled for, what my soldiers died for. Yet I kept my tongue, for I swore to serve you. When, through my own ingenuity Hanseti was absorbed into your Empire and I saw the Hochmeister, a man whom had sworn your death raised far above and beyond my own status - I kept my tongue, for I remembered my oath.

Through you, through your mercy, I have grown wealthy, and powerful, but I am not content. My ranks swell greater then ever before, their zeal for the Empire unmatched, but they remain cramped - shoulder to shoulder in the tiny holdings given to me in Anthos. Yet even with the miniscule I was given, others would take. The Hochmeister Mirtok DeNurem, he who knelt and gave away his Kingdom without so much as a fight, has harassed and belittled me for months on end, years on end - trying to threaten my men, intimidate my vassals - and most importantly, break your peace. In short, he wants my land - given to me by your own person.

My soldiers are not quick enough to stop the terror inflicted upon the villagers of Carrion, my neighbor and vassal by the Sariants. Their screams of terror and the frantic pleas of assistance penned to me by Lord Siegmund bear heavy on my heart. No man can antagonize me and my own without fear of my wrath, I might have once said. But that was when I was a different man, and I served no one. I recognized your paramountcy, as this power hungry, pitiful excuse of a Kingdom named Hanseti refuses to, headed by their Hochmeister - so recently returned and so full of anger.

In this, I cannot keep still, nor quiet. His greed is unchecked by any, and only I stand in his way to further expansion. The land south of the Kingdom of Hanseti proper, all that north of mine own keep, west of Savoie, is mine by right and privilege. What need has Hanseti for the land? They are tasked with protecting your northern border, while I am tasked with protecting the west. What sense then, does it make for Hanseti to have some holdings so far from their field of duty? Therefore I make known my intention to seize this land, for the betterment of mine own House, the stability of the Empire, and to serve a sharp lesson to an overly confident man. In this map marked in orange dye are the lands I claim and wish to assume ownership of, from their current supposed owners, the Teutonic Order. Once this land has been claimed, in the event of your approval, I would make all efforts to immediately end all hostilities, and do all in my power to ensure a return to peace.

y8GXfRF.jpg

Should you deny this claim, and order me to withstand on the justice owed me, I would be most saddened, and even more so filled with disillusion then currently.

I await your response with great anticipation. Your servant always,

Augustus Blackmont, Lord of House Blackmont

*From the confinement of his war room, Hochmeister Mirtok scribbles away at a long piece of parchment. He finishes his words, seals an envelope and sends it off to the Emperor to await approval. It reads . . .

Greetings to the Great God Emperor Godfrey,

I write to you in regards to a pressing issue that has been a thorn in the side of my Kingdom since before and even after my joining in the Empire as well as a major detriment to the integrity of this great Empire- House Blackmont (A rebranding of the traitorous House Flay.)

I will not insinuate that you know little as to what I speak of, you are an intelligent man and have proven your valor with the formation of this great Empire so I shall cut straight to the issue. For reasons unknown to me personally, House Blackmont was placed in the lands under the allotted space of Hanseti, essentially on the doorstep of my own settlement not 50 paces away. Let me be particularly clear that House Blackmont has never been a friend to me, the Teutonic Order or the Kingdom of Hanseti whatsoever and this misplacement of lands has caused considerable unrest in the late years of Anthos.

Allow me to recap; House Flay has been notorious for the vicious slaughter and maming of Hansetian citizens under me during the times of the border crisis. They without warrant would breach into my lands, destroying property and cause all sorts of havoc. I am sure you are quite aware of these actions as not only did they plague my snowy Mother Land but they too conducted criminal and ungodly deeds on your own Imperial soil for years without opposition besides my own forces. And only until their forces were heavily depleted and their leader, August Flay was put on for heresy and traitorism did the horrendous acts of violence cease.

I was sad to see the return of this troublesome house under a new guise of Blackmont. I did not question your judgement and simply tried to make the best of things considering the past our two groups have had. The events that unfolded on the islands of Elysium were in my opinion a direct result of August's indoctrination of the appointed leader of the Order at the time, Dain Farhammer. What they did together not only threatened your Empire and cause further pain and suffering on your subjects but in the end they were nearly wiped out for their crimes.

However, on Anthos they were supposedly given another chance, another chance after so many crimes beforehand. Crimes that by your law are unpardonable as by the agreement terms you put forth for the restored kingdom status of Hanseti. They were placed in my lands, alongside House Carrion from which they obtain the leeched resources from my own kingdom in order to further their criminal and violent behavior against the rest of yours and my realms.

In the past I have delivered to you a full collection of the various crimes committed against my kingdom and my subjects, such was met with silence. I confided in you that a war was imminent if nothing was to be done soon and I have reported forward unto you the Blackmonts underlying scheme to overthrow my right to rule and the Hansetian owned lands that you yourself promised to me long before most of your people made it to this new world.

My kingdom and men have suffered attacks, robberies, kidnappings, murders, tortures and extreme economical losses with the addition of the Blackmonts to my southern region. My agricultural productions have been stunted, my habitable living space has been tainted and my resources have been stolen and sold without my permission. We have refrained from attacking them no matter what, we have been patient and chose to handle things through diplomacy and I have had my men put on strict rules of engagement; we have been the victims of many assaults and despite it all we have stowed our blades. They have repeatedly infiltrated my most off limits and restricted sectors of my kingdom, threatened the Empire by subtracting our attention from the extremely dangerous North, plans have been intercepted expressing their motions to overthrow my Order and Kingdom, and I will not even get into the actions this House has committed onto other of your own loyal subjects in all other duchies and kingdoms.

House Blackmont is a menace that must be stopped. I have been very patient with you my dear Emperor, you have told me not to move forward or to aggress whatsoever and I have heeded those words fully. However, with each passing elven week the problems grow, the Carrions expand into lands that they do not own and House Blackmont repeatedly invaded my Kingdom, built towers and harassed my people. They are a menace that must be put to rest and never be allowed to arise again, not with a new banner, not with a new name, but to fade away into dust. They claim to be loyal but I know you remember their motto, blood for the coin! And I know you remember ours, blood for the Emperor. You have visited our keep, you have seen how my men honor and serve only your will, how we recite our oaths, chants and codes that all give praise to you; And you have seen the spiked heads of your countrymen and the flayed skins of men on the walls of that demonic House. Their red bandanas that used to mean traitor.

I have dealt with their presence long enough and I for the last time plead that you move them far away or a war will in fact break out, just as it did in Asulon. I am prepared to defend my Kingdom from their invasion and attacks, and if in fact the violence escalates, if in fact they aim to launch an assault on my lands or on any of my people, I will have no choice but to respond in an all out open war with their forces. Doing so will unfortunately detract from the assignments you have specifically given to me and my Order, our duty in the North, our work in the South and result in a great loss of life and forces in your Empire.

I will await your word and refrain from making a single move until then.

As always, your loyal and ever serving Hochmeister Mirtok DeNurem.

*Lord Carrion hastily scrawls up a claim in the confines of his keep*

His Imperial Divinus, Emperor Godfrey Horen,

Blessing upon you and your house. This claim will be to the point. My neighbors of House Green seem to be building a keep, fort, or form of military structure within 10-20 meters from my own unfinished keep. This in itself is a huge problem to the training of Carrion peasant levies; the expected allotment of a barracks to have them armed and trained cannot be completed due to Green's hastily maneuver to build a large stone defensive structure. He has made no contact with House Carrion in regards to building such structure a stone's throw away from ours.

When I arrived in Green land with a personal guard in case of military assault to discuss said structue, I was immediately assaulted with a kick to the back by one of his civilians. He then demanded I must disband my guard and submit all armor and arms to him, an incredulously bold request given that one of his peoples lashed out on me just moments ago. Given that I did not wish to surrender myself to his will by being surrounded by his insubordinate violent rangers, I dismissed his offer and sat to spoke at face terms. He refused any marks of compromise, leaving me no choice but to bring the matter to the court of the Emperor. His blatant disrespect towards House Carrion and willingness to erect a military structure at such close proximity can be viewed as aggression, as he houses soldiers which can directly fire upon my own villagers. Given his inability to cooperate along with previous slights in his constant refrain that the land allotted by your Imperial Highness to House Carrion is fully Green's, and I fear that an attempt at land grabbing may be placed by thrusting his influence down to my lowlands and blockading the completion of my keep.

He has no reason to establish such fortifications unless seeking malicious intent; my men are humble serf levies and guards, not thugs or bandits willing to slaughter. I have never made strikes or claims against his people till this day; rather I have faced numerous occasions were Rangers of House Green stumbled to my hold and attempted to incite conflict by refraining that the Carrion land is rightfully Greens.

Also, the land which my steeds and cattle graze upon our now infringed; we have no further suitable land for such, as the village inlay's grass has been sapped of life due to crops, and the rest of the lowlands is utilized for housing our civilians.

The land received of the plateau would not only enable a proper division between House lands, but would be used to secure the Brigand's pass and train serf levies in basic militia warfare through the creation of military infrastructure, in order to add another division of shock-troops to your Emperor's army. On the other hand, it seems Lord Green is too focused on internal disputes and is erecting a large military structure which sole purpose is to blockade the construction of my keep and exert his influence over my people. I find this selfish and not proper usage of Imperial land as it makes no attempt to aid the Empire, and rather hinders the effort of a House which seeks to serve.

Furthermore, his military construction right upon the border of my keep prevents me from finishing said keep. This prevents me from properly defending my civilians, as I would not be able to finish the keep, and my peoples would be defended by a neighboring Lord, diminishing my status as a House by having my serfs supervised by another lord. The way of our culture also creates an imbalance of architecture; two military structures of different cultures placed together will create a discouraging eyesore between our peoples, demoralizing my serfs and his rangers.

This slight and attempting at weakening my House's standing can only viewed with contempt and prevents us from attaining a harmonious cooperation which I sought. The land between Green and Carrion is between two plateau's; given Green's hostilities and inability to work with House Carrion, I forward a claim towards the singular plateau on which Castle Carrion currently rests on. This is to insure proper separate spheres (each house will hold one plateau) between House Green and House Carrion, with a geographical landmark dividing each other's lands. Otherwise, the persistent issue of a proper division between Green and Carrion will continue to plague the Empire's peace between your lowly subject Houses of Green and Carrion. A simple establishment of a division would prevent such hostilities from boiling over to civil discord between our peoples. I would be rightfully honored and grateful for your intervention in this crisis, as  its resolution in allotting a proper division of plateau's between Green and Carrion can only lead to harmonious prosperity of our respective households. Even if it was not in Codrik Green's direct will to erect such a structure, his authorization and ready willingness to dismiss cooperation with House Carrion leads to the belief that the only proper settlement of this dispute is through the allocation of the plateau Castle Carrion rests upon, to House Carrion. Given your imperial divinity, the choice can only be clear for the stability and prosperity of the Empire.

Your lowly subject,

Lord Carrion.

OOC: This is not a claim for the entirety of the Green County or war on House Green, it is only a request to the Emperor for the plateau that the Carrion Castle lays on. I put this OOC disclaimer in as I heard a bunch of people assuming that this was a request for total war against House Green or for all their land, which wouldn't make RP sense.

*A letter is sent to the Emperor*

"Dear Imperial Majesty Godfrey first of his name of House Horen, by the grace of the Creator Emperor of Oren, King of Renatus and Seventis, Defender of the Faith, Protector of the Realm, Regent Eternal of the Kingdom of Haven, Duke of Ardania, Crown Lands, Marna, Balamena, Count of Saltridge, Alnfayat, Alzlam Alardy, Hrq Rmal, Garath, and Gwent, and Most Holy Emperor of the Land,

For years, the true Rangers known as the Rangers of Al'ildic have served the great nation of Oren, and it's people. We are the most powerful group of Rangers in the land, and the only ones who can actually call ourselves real Rangers. It pains me every time I see a new Ranger guild that springs up made of 3 people. They embarrass our name we fight hard to defend and take our glory for themselves. 25 men call themselves Rangers of Al'ildic, but we can not expand from there to grow and provide better protection for the Holy Oren Empire. The reason for this is we have a small piece of land surrounded by cliffs where we can barely swing a sword around, much less shoot a bow.

On top of the cliffs lies the Greymarsh Swamp. Rhodirs infest the swamp which are Adunians that have gone crazy and seek blood and death. The Rhodirs will stand on top of the cliff and throw spears and arrows over our walls at women and children. By the time we are ready to counter attack, they are gone. For 5 years now, we have been asking the Greymanes to handle their killers in the swamp. I have lost 8 men and countless wounded to them including myself. The Seneschal, Patrick Denims, has been wounded twice by them as well as the Count of Ager, Niko Althered, who was stabbed in the foot. Great men are dying by this plague while the Greymanes lock their doors and watch.

What pains me the most is the Greymanes continue to insult me. They call me an adulterer and my Rangers, frauds. I told Ser Charles that I hate these petty Ranger guilds springing up. At that time, he made his own tiny guild made up of 2 people. He has built his own town behind Ager, and it stands completely empty except for his manor while we are packed in rooms below the cliff. I beg of you that you let us have the swamp so we can train and grow to be better use to you. We can banish the Rhodirs from your land and protect the North-East lands of the Empire. We just wish to inhabit the homes and continue our job. The Greymanes will be able to keep their huge manor which is plenty of room for their family and 2 bodyguards Rangers. I am asking this out of the interest of the Rangers of Al'ildic and protection of this Empire.

From,

Caln McHarnish of the Rangers

*Ivan Bronte sits at his desk in the Bronte keep and begins to write a letter to the Emperor*

To your Divine Imperial Highness,

My heart is filled with the utmost honor and respect for you. You are whom I forever will serve. You bestowed upon me the greatest honor, to protect you and your glorious Empire. Your protection has ensured me stability and has further acquainted me to the great people of your Divine Imperial Land.

I present to you a humble request. My family hath built a fort on your land with your blessing. My fort stands and I am happy. I have soldiers, family and your presence in my blessed life. My fort stands as the bastard of my architects' blistered hands. The authentication of my lands under your blessing is part I desire, and the possible expansion of land around said fort. Official vassalage under your greatness and an increased amount of land. This decision would allow myself to greater opportunities as a noble house of Oren. I could formally serve you without the slander from others and lack of authority.

On this note I end this letter. Thank you for all the honor you have bestowed upon me. It has been great to serve you and your Divine Empire. Forever will this Empire stand and your family , as the godsend that walk amongst. Farewell your Divine Imperial Grace. Good health to you and your family.

Yours truly,

Ivan Bronte

*A letter arrives at both the Emperor's Palace and to the Barony of Owlswood. One is addressed to the Emperor himself, the other to Athirus Owl*

"Dear reader of this Casus Belli,

There has been recent controversy over whether the Barony of Owlswood is of the Crownlands or the Duchy of Corpathia. To myself it seems impossible how it would be part of the Crownlands due to the Duchy of Corpathia surrounding the Barony of Owlswood on two sides. The other side is held by the De Sarkozy's and behind them lies the North. To be part of the Crownlands they would have to go through the town of Ager that lies in the Duchy of Corpathia to get there. His Imperial Majesty said if the Barony of Owlswood was in the Duchy of Corpathia that Lord Throdo Therving could grant it to whomever he pleases. Lord Throdo granted it to the Rangers so that they could house 34,000 men to serve the Emperor in peace.

The House of Owl refuses to give up their land against Lord Throdo Therving's will. They hold two other counties in their name yet they threaten death over a small, unused barony. The barony has been devoid of life for the past 5 elven years as proven by the Rangers and Count Niko Althered. I offer 3,000 minas and all their supplies in the Barony of Owlswood to the Owl family for the trouble we have caused and for the loss of their barony. If they have any other wishes they have, then tell me, and if they are within my power then I shall grant them.

If the Emperor does not find the Barony of Owlswood to be in the Crownlands as the Owl family stated, or they do not accept my offer of 3,000 minas, their supplies and goods, and whatever other wishes they have then I request a battle for the Barony of Owlswood. The Owl's have hidden behind the White Rose, and I do not wish to fight good Oren men mostly because I know they will kick our arse. If the Owl family can hold their own Barony then they shall be worthy of keeping it in my eyes. That means the Owl family and the Order of the Silver Gauntlet would be against the Ranger. No allies involved just the Silver Gauntlet and House Owl against the Rangers and Clan McHarnish. The Rangers have been without home and are in need of a spot. Lord Throdo Therving has granted us that land, and we hope to proceed by his request if the Emperor allows it.

*A new letter is sent to Caln Mcharnish and Emperor Horen Horen-Hightower*

"Dear you Imperial Highness Emperor horen and Mr Mcharnish, I Lord Arhadir Owl am annoyed by this as How is a non Noble making a Casus Belli on My House when the don't even have any land for us to take, I request that this claim be disregarded because that this man is not even a Noble man, and all he wants is power for his guild when it would be better just to make him and his men join some chapter. But of course if you think his claim is legitment Your Imperial Highness then I shall be forced fight this Mr Mcharnish and he will fall."

*Caln reads the absurd letter and begins to laugh. He begins to send a letter back*

"Dear [insert title for Horen and the Owls],

I would like to say first off you humor me, and I would be happy if you were to be my jester. I do not see why I would be banished from Oren and fined 5,000 minas for making a righteous claim at your fortress which we agreed upon is in the Crownlands. If the Emperor or Lord Throdo does see it fit to remove you from their lands, then it is within their rights! And if you continue to refuse it is breaking the law. War is the last thing I want because it would be a shame to slaughter good Oren men. If the Emperor or Lord Throdo agrees to expel you from the land then you must go. I am a kind hearted man and offer this as well as the 3,000 minas. There is a small plot of land that is 75 meters by 25 meters right by your barony. It is a perfect spot for a smaller noble family and will fit your needs nicely. I would have our Rangers settle there, but it is simply to small for 34,000 men but perfect for your family. If these two options are not agreed upon then it is war then. Were the Blackmonts stripped of titles if they lost to the Tuetons? No they were not, and it is absurd to want to strip me of titles and banish me. I have offered peace, and you continue to insult me. If you want insults and threats then you will get them. Stop hiding behind your allies like cowards. Meet us in open battle alone, and we shall do the same. Protect your own home, don't have others protect it for you. I look down upon cowards with disdain and hope you will not join them."

*A letter is sent back to the both of them*

"If the Emperor allows it, and you swear not to hide behind your allies we will come. If we can't get into your fortress then you won't even need the men. If what you say is true then go ahead. We will come. I will not insult those who I am about to kill. Hide behind your pretty words yet we will come. Words do not sway the tip of my sword. The Emperor may value your lives enough to strip you of the Barony, but if he wishes us to fight then I will have fun playing with your family's corpses. Your home will soon become your burial ground."

To the most Illustrious Horen, of the Imperial House of Horen, the Fifth of his name, and Emperor of the Holy Oren Empire. King of Renatus, Seventis, Holm, and all other realms and territories, Glorious Heir of the Legacy of Mankind, Archduke of Ardania, the Crownlands, Marna, Balamena, and Somerset. Count of Saltridge, Alnfayat, Alzlam Alardy, Garath, and Gwent. Defender of the Faith, Protector of the Realm, Regent Eternal of the Seven Skies

We of House Valois have forever been faithful to your Holy Empire, and forever loyal to your family. It is because of this that I write with a heavy heart expressing the distaste that not only I, but the rest of the Valois, find in the recent promotion of Prince Silus Illius of House Horen.

This claim will be made to the point, the Duke of Corazon, Prince Silus Illius of House Horen, has broken the laws of succession in an attempt to usurp Rose Valois the rightful Countess of Auvergne, and in his attempt to usurp he has insulted and broken our noble rights, that are within the laws of your glorious Empire.

It is within law that Low Crown authority allows the removal of a single title to any vassal that rebels, however the Valois had no intention to rebel and the attempt to remove Countess Rose Valois was premeditated. Prince Silus Illius of House Horen in all intents and purposes broke the laws that your divinity has placed upon this most glorious empire, and it grieves to me to see such injustice go unpunished.

Prince Silus Illius of House Horen, had no intention of withdrawing his unlawful decision until well after he broke the law, by not only attempting to remove the rightful Countess Rose Valois, but in turn he further broke the laws of succession by granting Alexander Valois the title of Count.

Alexander Valois is not the rightful heir of Auvergne in any shape or form. Balian Valois I abdicated his title down to his children, and that title was eventually abdicated to Rose Valois, making her the rightful heir. Rose Valois has garnered three possible heirs, Balian Valois II, Dagmer Valois, and Brandon Valois, in that very order. Never within these conducts has Alexander Valois been declared a rightful heir. Alexander is simply cousin to the rightful heir by the first degree. Where in the laws of succession it states inheritance works by male-preference cognatic primogeniture.

Time and time again have I seen the Duchy of Corazon not working to its full potential and It saddens me to see something so potent go to waste. However that could never be accomplished unless the rightful claimant to the ducal title be set in place. Rose Valois being the daughter of Balian Valois and sister to Chrestienne Valois, is the rightful claimant.

It is with this document that I beseech your divinity to accept this Casus Belli and to allow Valois to claim their rightful title and remove the stain that Prince Silus Illius of House Horen had unlawfully placed upon it.

  1. That Prince Silus Illius of House Horen immediately grant the Duchy of Corazon to the rightful head of House Valois, the Countess Rose Valois, and publicly denounce the claim to any landholdings within the Duchy with great haste.

  2. That Prince Silus Illius of House Horen acknowledge House Valois as having the rightful claim to the Duchy.

  3. Should Prince Silus Illius of House Horen not relinquish his claim then the County of Auvergne shall declare itself an independent county within the Kingdom of Renatus as direct vassals to the Emperor and should Prince Silus press a violent claim over the county we shall retaliate.

  4. That Prince Silus Illius of House Horen will formally recognize Rose Valois as the head of House Valois, and the Countess of Auvergne, and the passing of her titles fall to her formally recognized heirs under agnatic-cognatic primogeniture.

  5. Prince Silus will also pay reparations to remove the stain inflicted upon House Valois by the Duke of Corazon.

  6. It it also noted that negotiations may add or remove terms under the negotiating party's will.

Signed,

Countess Rose Valois of Auvergne
