Month Names For The Calendar System

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone :)

As we noted here, we will be creating a new calendar system along with a plugin to back it up. After considering the options, we have decided to go with Option 4, which is the 52 Year System.

Now, before the complaints begin running in, do know that we spent a lot of time discussing this and we have weighed in all of the feedback and criticism from everyone that participated in the vote. One of the most popular reasons against using Option 4 was that it made time go by too fast, but I will rebuttal by reminding everyone that the time systems in both Aegis and early Asulon were much faster, yet we were able to work with them quite nicely. That being said, this system is the most relative to IRL time and allows for the easiest interpretation of dates, due to the simple fact that one week is equal to one year.

Now that we know at least part of the reason for why we chose this system, we will go into the actual substance of this thread. Although we know how we want to organize the system, we still need names for the actual months, and we are leaving that up to you guys! Simply reply to this thread with what you think the names of the months should be in the correct order that they should be listed, and the most popular replies will be added into a poll for everyone to finalize what the system will be. Names can be anything from generic, easy to remember names such as "Octaver" to interesting phrases such as "Nature's Bloom". If you really want to help out, perhaps even suggest names for the actual days of the week as well, should we consider adding that in too!

Just some information for you to know when coming up with names:

7 months IC = 1 year IC = 1 week IRL

1 month IC = 1 day IRL

1 day IC = 1 hour IRL

Thank you to everyone in advance for the participation :)

Which parts of the year will be colder and which will be warmer? If that is a factor.

1st Month - Kamilris - New Year (Winter)

2nd Month - Bloomis (Winter -> Spring)

3rd Month - Primus (Spring)

4th Month - Scandere (Spring -> Summer)

5th Month - Apicem (Summer)

6th Month - Scensum (Summer -> Autumn)

7th Month - Solum Year's End (Winter)

and since there are 24 IC days in a month, I'd assume there are 8 days per week and 3 weeks a month. On this basis I'd say

Day 1 - Monodia

Day 2 - Duosia

Day 3 - Trionia

Day 4 - Quadricia

Day 5 - Pentilia

Keep in mind that the weeks do not have to fit in perfectly with the number of days in a month. Compare this with how weeks run in real life, as each month begins in a different day.

Everyone's suggestions include seasons. Does this mean that we are just accepting that Anthos has four seasons in a year, even though it only takes 7 days?

Krug's Joy (Summer)
Urguan's Farewell (Autumn)
Metztli's Breeze (Autumn>Winter)
Elder Chill (Winter)
Aeriel's Light (Winter>Spring)
Horen's Mercy (Spring)
Malin's Blessing (Spring>Summer)

Using Elven numbers for days of the week:
I : oemekarim
II : niukarn
III : haelarim
IV : vailukim
V : kulikarem
VI : banihkarn
VII : laierm
