The Order of Vigilant Steel

Who We Are and Our Goals:
We are the Order of Vigilant Steel. An old guild founded many decades ago in the land of Aegis. We were once a simple militarian group dedicated to protecting the main capitals of Aegis. It was the Vigilant Steel that was among the last to leave the scorched city of Alras during the Undead Crisis and since then our goal has not changed. We aim to serve and protect. It was maybe 15 years ago when my grandfather, Gladius, tried his hand at reforming said guild. In that reformation the goals of our company had been firmly established. We are here to protect life as we know it from the men with evil in their hearts, to save the lands from destruction, to promote peace within these lands and to maintain liberty for all men. And among that we also aim at aiding the development and prosperity of society or culture.

History:

-Aegis-

The guild was founded a century ago in our old home known as Aegis. It was formed to establish justice in places where justice could not be maintained by the established nations. Alongside that, it was formed to protect certain capitals of said nations, perhaps due to the increasing threat of the undead. In any case, this form of the Vigil stems from the Alrasian sect of the group stationed to protect Alras during the last years of Aegis. The undead was conquering the lands and Alras stood its ground as the horrific armies of the undead approached the city. The Order of Vigilant Steel stood in the center of the city for as long as it could, slaying the deadly creatures until there was no longer a choice. The city was coated in lava and the air plagued with death. The Vigil was fairly dissipated at this point.

-Asulon-

Leaving their homes and setting into a large new land, the Vigilant Steel naturally followed the remnants of the former inhabitants of Alras. The city began to grow and with the aid of the Vigilant Steel to help build, gather resources and protect, the city was once again a grand spectacle to behold. Along with that the city of Alras gave the Vigilant Steel a keep to patrol its borders with the orcish lands. The Vigilant Steel began to grow once again, gaining members like no tomorrow. It was fine for many years, but after so long the guild’s former leader Essebel handed the members of the Vigil to the Alrasian military, effectively disbanding the once proud guild.

It wasn’t until about 20 years later that a former Sentinel of the guild named Gladius Moonstrike, my grandfather, decided to reform the guild alongside several other former members. The city of Alras gave them land to build a new keep on and the quest for members was on. The Vigilant Steel gained quite a bit of members during the time that Gladius reformed it and the keep was nearing its completion. This came tumbling down when Gladius, the new leader of the guild, spiraled down a path of madness. Due to this, he left the guild with Luke Goldhand and Pepe Lysander, the two Vigils of the guild, in charge. They were lacking in military tactics and leadership qualities, so as it happened before, the guild quickly disbanded.

However, before my grandfather Gladius’ life ended, he decided to send his only known family, Merek, all of the documents and books detailing the history of the Vigilant Steel. Alongside that he included a letter, appointing Merek the new leader of the guild and with the mission to finally reform the guild.

-Anthos-

I was a poorly soldier under the wing of the lord Aedric Ulfhaedyn, completely unable to fulfill such a wish. It was then that Asulon fell. The sky around us filled with thunder and lightning, the lands were filled with the disquiet dead. We were forced to leave. I was unable to fulfill the mission to reform this guild during our time in the Elysium Isles as well. No job and living on the streets, harboring a problem with alcohol. However, an old member of the reformed Vigilant Steel under Gladius came upon me and took me in. It wasn’t until we came into Anthos that an opportunity to reform this guild had arisen. Under the permission by Marquis Edmund Stafyr to set up temporarily in the land of Schattenburg, now I, Merek Moonstrike am finally able to start recruiting for the newly reformed Order of Vigilant Steel.

Chapters of the Vigilant Steel and Ranking:

-The Synod-
The Synod is the leading chapter of the Vigilant Steel. It’s members are the highest ranking members of the guild and are in charge of all other chapters as far as larger decision making goes. The Observer and the Vigils will hold councils to come to military decisions or otherwise.

  • The Observer- The Observer is the sole leader of the Order of Vigilant Steel. He or she may be the one who has formed/reformed the guild or has been appointed the new Observer by the previous Observer. This is a rank one can not earn, a rank one must be given, perhaps by trust. There is only one Observer.
  • The Vigilant- The Vigil is the highest ranking that any member could possibly obtain before being appointed Observer by the past Observer. The Vigil has authority over any lower ranking member of the Vigilant Steel. All Vigils and the Observer will hold councils in order to come to decisions in most difficult situations. There may be only two Vigils per keep or Vigilant location.

-The Protectorate-

The Protectorate is the military chapter of the Order of Vigilant Steel. All members of this chapter are expected to be or become battle ready. To protect life in a more direct manner, if you will. All members will be expected to be ready to fight or protect at a moments notice.

  • The Protector- The Protector is the highest possible rank of the Protectorate, having command over all lower ranks in their station or location. The Protector can command Sentinels, Watchers and Initiates. The Protector is expected to have extremely exceptional capabilities in battle and must have several leadership qualities. The Protector can be used as the person to convey any important information to the Vigils or the Observer. There is not yet a determined limit to how many Protectors there may be.
  • The Sentinel- The Sentinel is a member of the Protectorate expected to hold skill in various duties. They are expected to hold command over the Watchers and Initiates. They must be fairly trained in any form of efficient combat. The Sentinel is the main bulk of the Protectorate as far as number.  The Sentinel is a member of the Protectorate that will hold the main bulk in number for battles with the Vigilant Steel and is essentially a fully fledged member of the Protectorate.
  • The Watcher- The Watcher is a newly accepted member of the Protectorate in the Order of Vigilant Steel. The Watcher has no command over any other members and isn’t expected of many things. The Watcher is to be trained in combat if they are not already exceptionally trained. The Watcher is a former Initiate that has been trusted enough for promotion. In order to become a Sentinel as a Watcher you must become properly trained in any combat of your choice.
  • The Initiate- The Initiate is a person whom has taken interest in joining the Protectorate chapter of the Order of Vigilant Steel. The Initiate has had their application thoroughly examined or has been interviewed in person. They have absolutely no authority over any members of the Vigilant Steel and have no say in any of the decisions that go into the guild. The Initiate must pass a time period testing his or her dedication to the guild. Once they have actively chosen to be a part of the Vigil and can be trusted, they are promoted to be a Watcher of the Protectorate. A way that an initiate might be tested to be trustworthy is by them being put on several tasks to aid the guild over a certain amount of time.

-The Auxiliary-

The Auxiliary chapter of the Order of Vigilant Steel consists of all members of the Vigilant Steel willing to aid the Vigil by collecting resources, laboring or trade. It is not set up yet, but this chapter of the guild will also consist of any member that wishes to pursue scientific study that may lead to aiding our ultimate goals as the Vigilant Steel: Peace, Protection and Liberty. There are no ranks surrounding this chapter of the guild as of yet.

Locations:

March of Shadowcastle(Schattenburg)/Feldkirch- This is the first temporary base for the Vigilant Steel in many years thanks to the permission given by Marquis Edmund Stafyr. Every member of the Protectorate in this location is expected to protect House Stafyr from threat or outside attack that is undue or unjust. All members of the Vigilant Steel must adhere to the region’s authority of Furnestock, including the bannerman force of the Guardians. They have authority over the guild in this location and you must listen to them or House Stafyr at any time if given instruction.  As for now, there can only be members of the Protectorate positioned in Feldkirch, but that doesn’t mean you can’t come to trade with the village of Feldkirch!

Extra Information:
As of now, the guild is finally just getting back on its feet. There are currently little to no members, so feel free to sign up!
