I think that the voting for the season system and the month names is a bit foolish. Many month name groups are reliant on the season. Mine, Freya's and Aphasto's especially. The name reflect at the very least the temperature. However if a season is a whole year then the month names lose their purpose.

I realise it is probably too late to withdraw the poll, but if the majority would like a season to last an in-game year then some of the month names don't make sense.

To be honest, as much as I love freya's names... Well it WOULDN'T fit with the GoT seasons (A sunday is 'Deep Freeze' in the middle of summer). And the next option (Elindor) contains some good & bad ones... But Elindor's is the most appropriate in my eyes.

All of mine are actually related to season. Krug's Joy is the hottest, Metzli departs when it is getting too cold, Malin's blessing is when all the flower's are blooming etc.

In defense of Freya's system in particular. Its true that it no longer fits the currently most popular season system however, it doesn't need to. Much like how September is no longer the 7th month of the year, it can be something that is kept from Aegis and Anthos while perfectly making RP sense.

GOT-ish seasons would be cool, in my opinion. Not so sure about which month names i prefer though.

If we decide that seasons lasting a full year are more important to game-play than naming conventions, we can just have each year represented by a month name, in a rotating 7-year-cycle, sort've like the Chinese Zodiac Calendar has an animal associated with each year in a 12-year cycle. Instead of animals, we would simply call that year by the month name. In order to justify blatantly pissing on all of our traditions, we would simply say that after traveling to new lands and experiencing celestial disruptions brought upon by Iblees and otherworldly forces, time has been altered slowly over the course of a hundred or so years and now it seems that months have stretched into years and have been named as such, ie: because magic.

As for month names, Freya's system is still far superior. It's nice to see that some veteran players still value the pleasantries of tradition. Also, it would be absolutely fantastic to have a real-life month during The Deep Cold where the enemy in the northern lands went absolutely ape-**** and just ravaged the entire server.

If we started with this month, it would be The Deep Cold by Christmas time and we could have another The Deep Cold by July of next year. That would be two periods of time where the majority of players would have time off and we could have a month each jam-packed with the stuff of nightmares.

Oh, and if we're going Mean Girls logic: Gaius' system is the hot blonde you meet at a bar, while Freya's system is the cute brunette that you meet at the library and take home to mom. :P

What if we used Gaius's names for the months, and attached Freya's as a periodic 'zodiac' cycle?

IE: The 2nd of Sondrig 113, Year of the Deep Cold

Meaning, the cycle would repeat every 7 years ((weeks)). OR, you could lengthen it by adding a variable number of 'years per zodiac name'.

The 3rd of Amalgim 540, 1st Year of the Deep Cold

would be following by in exactly one year,

The 3rd of Amalgim 541, 2nd Year of the Deep Cold

If we set two years per zodiac, this date would be followed by in exactly one year,

The 3rd of Amalgim 542, 1st Year of Snow's Maiden

In all meaning the zodiac cycle would repeat every 14 weeks. Interestingly, if we set it to be 7 years per zodiac name, that gives us a 49 year ((week)) period, totalling 343 days. If we were to add an 8th 'strange' or 'odd' zodiac which lasts only 3 years. Which would mean it would be 343 + 21=364 days. The last day could be an 'oddmonth' which could have it's own festival and such, existing outside the months and years system. All in all, totalling 365 days - a full year.

Sure. But ditch the word 'year' because to my knowledge that name has never existed in LOTC.

2nd of Deep Cold

I vote this, so this way Freya and I don't get into a busty girl cat-fight with lots of hair-pulling and lingerie snapping :3

The calendar would look as so:

T6bbyz0.png

The 'missing month', ie the beginning and end of the name cycle, will be on the 21st of June, the day LOTC was released. The completion of each complete 7-span band of a certain color indicates one year. Replace the weekday names with the appropriate names of Gaius' months. In lightish grey is the 'oddball' 3-week zodiac.

Let's not use silly little names that no one can pronounce, use the system which makes sense and can be understood and won't be forgotten instantly by everyone other than the nutcases that came up with the idea.

Use Freya's idea (the one that already is used).

Also I've never heard anyone say 'You know what, I think we really badly need a change in the calendar system!' I just think you should be focusing on more important things rather than trying to fix something which isn't broken.

You may not have noticed, but the time plugin IS broken, hence why we are fixing it. While we are setting up a new plugin, we took the time to improve the calendar system if the players wished to. We created a poll about this and, if people didn't want to fix a system that wasn't broken, they wouldn't have voted for change as they did. This was the system that was chosen, and now we're giving the players the ability to choose how it will be named. I respect your opinion and I'm glad that you are going with Freya's option, but that saying strikes my nerves. If we didn't fix what wasn't broken, innovation and improvement would not be real words and we'd live in a world where we'd still carry around sticks with fire lit on the end and live in caves. As for LotC, we'd still be RPing on a vanilla server without plugins calling each other by our mc names, and though you may be ok with this I guarantee that the majority of the server is not.
