Perhaps Masons/blacksmiths/smelters should be combined in one class with individual subtypes similar to the magic part of the plugin? We could have glass-makers with the ability to make glass faster, maybe they could make stained glass too? Just my two cents.

Though the plugin, so far as I have read is absolutely amazing and I believe it will completely turn this server in a new direction. I can't wait until it comes out.

I'd answer it here... but to create more suspense for tomorrows Livestream, I'd encourage you to watch it. That is covered. :3

The one thing I think we need to be really careful with, is that this doesn't start a grind-fest, and at the same time not have everyone gets OP characters. I think the best way to moderate that RPly, is to have people that are true "masters" of the skill, have the ability to "train" someone, and grant them levels.

Let's called these individuals, "Skill Masters", or a staff rank of [sM]. This would mean that, to learn a skill, you'd need to actually learn it, and the master will have the discretion to decide whether or not the person is worthy of learning the skill, and whether or not they think the person will utilize the information and skills well, etc.

Let's be honest. There will be many people that will try and learn all of the most relevant and powerful skills, and use that to essentially power-game through PVP and economy with wholly unrealistic characters, or characters that simply weren't built up. There needs to be a significant limiting factor on this, because if it starts to happen, and someone accuses them of it, they'll just say, "Well, I trained it." I don't want LotC to turn into a server where conflicts are based upon who no-lifes harder. There should be an SM system, like the masters of magic run now, that adds a human factor that moderates players to ensure that things don't get out of hand in that way.

Perhaps the best way to go about this within the bounds of your plugin, is to make a relatively small cap on proficiency points, and points past that can only be granted by masters?

I fell like one of those pop-up ads for using so much bolding.

Please don't turn EVERY single profession into something similar to magic. Yes, I think players need to Rp training more, but it isn't fair for people who have no trainers in their timezone, or something to have to wait on someone else to RP with. And does LoTC really need an Application to swing a sword? Maybe give the trainers an increase to the time it takes to train, but not make it the only way. I want to RP my character, not spend hours looking for someone who will deem me worthy of the profession.

As to my knowledge there has been no talk of having applications for your profession.

To be blunt and brief? The worst days of LotC in my opinion were when no one could be self-sufficient anymore. I felt a profession's plug in didn't promote RP, personally, it just restricted my ability to do anything. However, I don't know how this plug in works, and I'm simply reminding myself of Vaq's during 1.0-2.0. I will tack on an edit to his once I read into the plugin further.

But then every Mary Sue and Gary Stu will have mastered everything with nothing to justify it. It'll be ridiculous.

Ditto, there should be some sort of light ooc oversight to make sure that people aren't abusing the system. Also it would be beneficial to build in a limitation to the system on the amount of skills that one can completely master, likely 1-2.
