A Man's Speech

A young man in the subdued fineries of the middle class steps up onto the ledge of the fountain in central Abresi, and raises his voice, asking the babble to quite. As an odd silence falls over the streets, and you hear his charismatic voice fill the air,

"You ask, "What horrors does Galahar have in store? Why would Galahar be any worse than Oren?" I'll tell you why. The history of the Flay name is bathed in blood. They've butchered any who have stood in their way, murdered the innocent, rampaged through lands under the crown, caring more for power than for the life of the defenseless. Cutting through Salvus, through Malinor, through the holy orders of the state, and helpless merchants and farmers alike. The mottos of their house's past, "Loved by none, feared by all," and "Blood for Coin," tell of their true nature. The first leader of Galahar had his own nephew murdered to take his land and titles. A man who cannot respect his family has no chance to respect his state.

The Flays as well embody every hated facet of the empire. Conquest, bloodlust, injustice, immorality, and prejudice are all held near and dear to the hearts of the Flays. I would rather die than live under a government of pure evil, and it's a better thing to die with my sword wet with the blood of one of the despised Galaharans than die ill in bed under the "care" of their state.

Soon the North will descend upon us, and the Galaharans are the demons' best ally, splitting the nation and causing strife. You think the Galaharans are a promising change? They're not just more of the same, they're worse than the same. A new Horen sits in Abresi. A kind Horen, one who holds the interests of the people close to his heart. But it is not that the King of Oren is so great, it is that the King of Galahar is worse. Don't fight for him, fight for your families, your possessions, your lands, great or small. Don't fight for the state of Oren, fight for your life.

A man nearby records the words of the speaker onto a sheet of parchment, and copies spread throughout the empire, the speech known simply as, "A Man's Speech."

Ezekiel Horen hears the man speaking and nods in approval as he listens from a small distance. After he finishes, Ezekiel walks back to his manor and begins planning more strategies to take down Galahar.

"Throughout the years, Oren prospered and the Empire was built on the backbone of the Flays. While Nobles sat high up on their thrones, drinking the finest wine available, the Flays fought the wars that they would not. Being sent into battle, the Bannermen of House Flay died, their bodies left to rot, and their names long forgotten. And who was it that wished to turn on the great House Flay? None other than the very leaders that sent the soldiers of House Flay to die for them! And yet, when House Flay leaves Oren, becoming their OWN Kingdom, they are judge by the ones who would send young men into battle, while they, and their sons, sat in their palaces, mansions, and manors while souls were lost, and children left as orphans."

*Long Live Galahar*

He never was one to speak out in public, especially in a place that could so easily get him killed, though a slightly young man of no more than twenty Five winters shifts, sliding out a book of history. A book that details accounts from Asulon and Aegis. A rarity, no doubt, and something he had checked out from the beautiful cloud temple library as a aspiring historian himself. He rubbed his slightly scruffy beard, opening the book to a marked page and placing his finger on the text.

After reading for but a moment, the man decides he should speak up. A liar never prospers in these lands, and he sure would not be the aid to a liar.

"'Scuse me sir. I do not... Er, believe that is entirely true." He coughs awkwardly as his voice clears through the cloud, raising it to get it over the many many voices before finally talking directly to the spokesman "Yes indeed. That is not entirely true. I think you may be a pathological liar or perhaps you are simply ignorant to the truth. So let me detail what I have read in my countless nights under the moon.

Real violence did not start until Asulon. Until Oren grew from the pup it was into a beast, capable of slaughter. And slaughter it did. It took over nearly everything at one point. Galahar, on the other hand, was quite different. One was not slaughtered for their views, they were not decimated for their race. You say that Galahar are the allies of these so called demons coming, but I cannot see how you get any more evil than destroying the world to fit your needs as Oren and the Horens have.

In fact I will likely be maimed for speaking right now, which terrifies me greatly, but it would be simply unjust to not call out these lies. Friends of the city, do not be fooled by one mans speech. You all the the right to research this yourself as I have! You may see that violence did not start until the so called "Holy empire of Oren" was formed! You all could have lived just lives in peace had it not been for these corrupt slaves to Iblees himself ruining your innocence.

Yes. The Demons are coming and they are far more dangerous than these men, but never forget, and never forgive what Oren has done to you. To your family."

He bows his head as he ends, trying to shape back into the crowd and disappear before the legions of psychotic guard come to slay him like they do to everyone whom speaks their mind.

*Many guards pour out and mutilate the man, because they are such evil monsters, and not because he is fueling rebellion*

Lark Steelwall rolls his eyes at the various responses at the man's speech and mutters to himself, "They should be less worried about their damn politics and more worried about te' 'orrors spillin' out of te' north."
