Recent House History

Before the inheritance of Salvus, the Hightowers were still a highly respected family in Oren.  The House leader of that time was James Hightower, the first of his name.  James was Prince Archbishop of Oren and the leader of the faith.  He later married himself to Mary Horen, the Emperor’s sister and that’s where the most recent History of the Hightowers begins.

James and Mary Hightower had two important children, Garth and Lancel.  These two children are the most important children in the history of Oren than any other child James conceived with his next few wives through the decades.  Lancel immediately took the path of the knight, squiring for the Emperor at the age of seven, and continuing this path until he was sixteen years of age.

Garth however took the path of politics, he followed his father’s path closely and took on many of the habits he did, from the way he talked to the way he acted.  He grew up away from other people so his social skills suffered for it.  Lancel was the much more public figure, always out in the city and being vocal too many of the lords.  From the age fourteen to twenty he mostly lived in Ildon, the current dwellings of the Adunians, where it made Lancel a stronger man.  Garth still stayed inside to his studies at this time.

The next decade went past without much incident, the Flays entered the story and were not much of an initial threat.  But they eventually turned into a greater threat towards the Hightowers and war ensued.  The Hightowers and Elendils joined forces to battle them off, and intially the Flays beat the joined forces with their superior army, but the Flays were not very bright, never have they been and they enraged the Emperor of the time, Godfrey Horen.

It bought the Hightowers some time, but there were still many disguised bandit raids, which were obvious Flays.  The Hightowers held out however from the internal fighting, even with the Flays constant attacks with their superior army.  The Hightowers were richer and could always replace the armor and men they lost, but the attacks were taxing until the fateful day where August disappeared.  Many proclaimed him dead and so thought almost all of Oren.

But the alliance between the Hightowers and the Elendils was not to last, the Elendils betrayed Oren in the need for power, and the armies of Oren marched on them in a quick and deadly attack.  The Tuetons and Hightower Bannermen descended upon Winterhall and killed the armies inside, Lancel himself thrust the sword between the ribs of Axl Elendil, the leader of house Elendil.  Giving a quick end to the rebellion.

The story now advances many stages, to the end of recent history for the former Hightower family.  Lancel had begun to disappear and return, causing his claim to the throne to be iffy.  Garth sucked up to the Emperor to get himself the crown and left Lancel behind, then when the Empire was at it’s strongest.  The Emperor and two thirds of the Empire’s armies left over night.  Leaving little for the once glorious empire to defend itself.  In an act of desperation to hold his title, for fear of turning normal.  Garth betrayed all of Oren and gave Salvus to Urguan as long as he got to stay king.

Lancel was disgusted with his brother’s craven actions and went to the Oren capital if Abresi, where he took up a position in the Privvy council, trying to maintain the broken city of Oren.  He swore vengeance to one day end his brothers life for his crimes against the Creator.  With Lancel now in power of Oren, he works towards keeping his Kingdom alive, and keep it out of the hands of the Bastard Flays who try and take the Empire for themselves.

Kaila sits in the library with one of her favorite books, the history of Salvus (written by Lancel himself). She smiles as she reads it over, the history of her lineage next to her. No matter what, she was happy being of Hightower blood, and in all sense of the word, she was a Hightower through and through. Not Bedevere and not whatever her mother was now.
