Clarification On Pvp Default

I'd encourage people to stop being so focused on whether they win or lose in PvP. It's a game and interesting RP can come from both winning and losing (not just for you, for other people around you), whether you win or lose it doesn't matter, and PvP is simply much faster.

I've honestly witnessed very little PvP fights so far and I am pretty heavy into combat RP. Lot of people seem to prefer going into RP fights.

This is a roleplaying server... why would PVP be default...?

This is a roleplay server, therefore in a lot of peoples opinion, roleplay SHOULD come first and be default. Why force us to use MC Mechanics on a server dedicated to roleplaying?

Because players have proven time and time again that too many of them are too unwilling to lose an RP fight. They go "afk" or "lose their internet connection" if they're going to lose. And some do nothing but win because, as was mentioned before, they're unwilling to lose. They justify their winning every battle with being "the best sword fighter around," while most of them haven't been fighting for more than a week or so. Even if you were very good, you could still lose a fight.

Then there's the stalemates. Both players follow the rules and don't powergame, but both are too clever for eachother. You can stand there for hours, just typing away with the other person and not get anywhere. Not everyone wants to spend that kind of time in one place.

It's not as if RP fighting has been made against the rules. If both parties agree to it, you can do it all you want. Many people will acclimate to your request if you ask.

I apologize for all things negative that happened at my wedding. Please forgive me for any actions my men perfomed and or the guests.

I hope what you have said here will make a change, allowing people to understand when to initiate the PvP or to comprehend whether or not PvP is valid for the situation.

This has been one of the main points which I have been trying to get across. Just because PvP is default does it mean that every single person on the server is going to start behaving like a lunatic, pugsying and ruining RP so the apocalypse will occur? No, it doesn't and it hasn't. I haven't witnessed a single PvP fight since it became default besides the antagonist events which I have partaken in.

We are not centered around PvP. On a Minecraft roleplaying server you have two options to fight. One involves text-based fighting, and the other is mechanics-based fighting. It is not "PvP," it is fighting with mechanics. Should we revert to having to roleplay every single step you take, because we are an RP server and not a PvP server? No, we should not. It's simply too much of a hassle to roleplay every single thing you do. In this case, combat has proven to be a difficult topic of debate as both options have their ups and their downs. However, it just so happens that fighting mechanically creates less turmoil than text fighting.

We shouldn't name them RP fighting and PvP fighting, as that implies that PvP fighting is not RP. This is entirely incorrect, however, as it involves RP beforehand and afterwards -- there is even roleplay during the mechanics-based fighting for events such as wars and such.

Think of it this way,

If two people cant decide on RP-Fighting, Roll-Fighting or PvP fighting you think they're going to be able to RP fight without accusing each-other of powergaming or ultimately voiding the rp entirely?

PVP being "default" just means that there is a flip of the coin to fall back to if things can't be decided.

If it was up to me, i'd make "roll-fighting" be default instead - but it'd most likely need a plugin made to work properly.

I see where you're coming from but PVP just asks for more powergaming then RP. It's easy enough to screenshot RP chat and report it, but if you're being killed, you don't have time to screenshot them chasing after you in iron armour and you in none.

Many would say "Oh, record pvp" but not everyone can record 24/7 or open fraps/dxtory fast enough when pvp is announced.

Because RP fights can be very lengthy, and can often end up in OOC conflict. This is especially the case when one party wishes for PvP whilst the other wants RP, because they are generally much more bitter towards each other and, like before, leads to OOC conflict about whether or not an emote is PG etc. PvP default ensures that there's minimal OOC conflict, at least during the fight itself, and there will be no powergaming to cause it.

I'd encourage people to stop being so focused on whether they win or lose in PvP. It's a game and interesting RP can come from both winning and losing (not just for you, for other people around you), whether you win or lose it doesn't matter, and PvP is simply much faster.

One shouldn't choose PVP over RP just because it's less time consuming. You should choose the one that both of you are more comfortable with. I find more people PG'ing with PVP then with RP combat.

Realistically, a halfling would not be able to take on two fully grown male orcs, yet with pvp mechanics they can.

PVP is based on "who can click fastest" and "who has the better PC and more FPS". It shouldn't be like this because we shouldn't split the community based on who can afford the better PC and who is stuck on a laptop.

In my honest opinion, I prefer RP then PVP, simply because I came here to RP. If I want to PVP, I can go on a raid server or something.

I wish people would quit referencing this little tidbit as evidence, in what situation ever would a heavily armoured halfling (Halflings despise combat for the most part) antagonise two massive unarmoured Orcs? And even if it did, the Orcs would win because of numbers.

I use that reference because it proves the point perfectly.

I never said it would be the Halfling that antagonising the Orcs.

What's to stop two Orcs approaching a Halfling, intending to rob him, and then the orcs are counting down for pvp and when it begins, the halfling running away, putting armour on then running back and killing them?

Despite the fact that this would be terrible RP and would probably result in a ban report?

The you RP it as a damned miracle. Those can happen. The halfling smacked them both in the balls and then the orcs hit their heads on rocks. Boom. Solved.

Decency and good sportsmanship?  Plus the fact that you should emote putting on armour unless it's already on your skin.

Also I have the sudden urge to make a Halfling Heavy Armour regiment...

Why can we not say that something like this happening is an extremely lucky event worthy of commemoration. The unlikely happens now and again, and this falls under that category. This allows the underdog to occasionally win without the complaint of powergaming.

Not to mention it opens up for all sorts of cool RP where people can tell stories of Jojo, the glorious halfling warrior who managed to best a pair of orcs in battle. Creates some interesting RP? I think so.
