Right, hello there gentlemen or gentlewomen... I'm Dave! Well not my real name... But never the less a proxy I use on LoTC. At any rate! The question today is what you guys want from runesmithing? Personally I've been going the wrong way about this for far too long, going and asking people on ts.... Please post what you want and I'll think about it and try to integrate it into the post I'm hopefully going to post at the end of November ( at the very latest).... The title pretty much sums it up... What do you players want from runesmmithing? Do you want water elevators? Powerful weapons or blood runes that mutate and are a neo blood magic + necromancy? Please post any replies! They will all be appreciated... - Dave.

Quick Edit: My personal interpretation of rune magic is that it's preperation magic, you pretty much do things before battle, making runesmiths good in pre battle for defenses. But in actual battles? Not really that effective unless they're in a isolated chamber where they can carve runes without getting distracted.. Do you agree? Disagree? Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

((Essentially I'm going to post a redraft/better version of Rune Lore at the end of November if not earlier. Any ideas are appreciated! Even if you're not a dwarf feel free to express your ideas through this thread. This will hopefully coincide with the MAT system better. I'll be withdrawing from my other positions to better pass this on to players and make runesmithing an essential part of Dwarven society when  I post this..))

EDIT: This is the rune lore in place at the moment. NOTE it will be reworked, but you get the idea of what it is currently. Hopefully it will give you guys some ideas, to give to us that we haven't thought of!

Very interesting idea Gaius... In regards to the Naptha, would you say some rune that changes the alchemical properties of the material? Or rather simply creates some form of explosion... Which could essentially replace the loss of gunpowder?

In regards to landmines or traps... How about some form of runes on the floor that activate one stepped on... Similar to magic circles in video games?

Rune-Limbs: Lost an arm? Get a fully functioning Rune-Arm!

Rune Walls of Repair: Magnetically repairs itself

Magic Shields: Dwarven Legion having trouble with Pyromancers in the far reaches of their empire? Forge a shield that absorbs magic! ***Drawbacks require***

Putty Swords: Swords that cut through armor, like putty.

Keep it all Pre-Battle. This adds for more Tactical role-play. Though, steering towards a middle ground between Combat Magic and Everyday Magic is probably a good idea, as to make Rune-Smithing a greater part of Dwarven Society and RP.

So Rune smithing should be like Coding. A certain set of runes does one thing, and another does something different.

Like one chain of runes makes a rune arm work. While another chain of runes can make a fire mine. Another could even make a sword be as hot as magma.

If you need me I can help write the lore, if you decide to go with mah plan :3

This has actually already been done before, it was a runic golem arm  :P

I believe you're referring to this, http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/94817-a-king-reforged/ . It's where I essentially rebuilt our  crippled King with runic limbs. Although would you say this is a bad way to do this? Or do you guys feel this is an adequate way?

I'd like to simply seen runesmithing used more. Maybe the techs could code a plugin so that runesmithers could craft different runes, and like warlord said, they could craft those runes into different things? Could be kinda cool, people finding runes but not knowing what the hell to do with them.

Uhhhhh yea, this. Also I like Ptah's suggestion to me. Use it to advance our technology to the state the dwarves should have while still retaining the fantasy theme. We could have a unique racial trait going for us with this. Ptah's example was this

<18:22:42> "PtahWithin": Use runesmithing to accomplish mechanically impossible feats
<18:23:01> "PtahWithin": Such as making it repel water with great force
<18:23:08> "PtahWithin": allowing you to make stone ships
<18:23:28> "PtahWithin": Which can float by the sheer force of the rune

I'd like it to be a realistic goal with good application, like vaporizing any high elves who touch golem anvils, at t5 after emoting 30 times or something. Dwarves only too, unlike golemancy somehow.

I do intend to teach more people, but pardon me for being a pessimist. Most people ask me in ooc for it, for the first part it requires me an app for teaching. That I will post after the runesmithing draft. Also most people that ask me are old-dish dwarfs who don't even rp smith, purely to make their character more "powerfull." I'll be honest, it's a magic for fun or rp, and the problem with the dwarves at the moment that we militarized at the moment. Which is why I don't teach everything to the current dwarves. Because of abuse, a prime example of this is dwarves breaking through a 1 block bar, which is not even possible with mc mechanics. Leading to me being a tad cynical about teaching some dwarves. Pardon me... But I do intend to teach it, more as a fun thing. Rather than a power thing that will be militarized and abused. Which I see easily happening after looking on how we do things at the moment. So please forgive me that I'm a tad over cautious about teaching it...

((Note I will reply post to the constructive feedback tomorrow. This is merely to address the whole "teach it more more peeps, plox... "Posts."

No one is blaming you for wanting to be careful with the art, if you feel uncomfortable teaching it to certain people then don't. Thing is try to be a "bit" less pessimistic. Currently BOTH of our unique racial arts are in a state of limbo, stuck with you at college. The only reason some people ask you in OOC for it is because thats the only way we can contact you right now. Also, don't assume that all the dwarves want it for being "more powerful" I thought it would be a lot of fun and I didn't want it to die out/ stay in this limbo. That's why I wanted it anyways. If you wait to long for just the right person to teach then the art WILL stay in limbo. And what happens when they decide to teach someone? (when they can of course) you can't monitor a whole races unique RP ability, to do so is just dampening it for the rest of the dwarves. You want a fun art? Make it so. Drop the student if they use it militarily. Hell, we can even pass a law banning its over use in military activitys.

Long story short, there are still many options available for you Dave, just don't keep it locked up in this state of limbo
