  2. Greetings folks! We experienced a bit of a hiccup a little while ago where the server went down. For some details essentially what happened was the server maxed out on it's hard drive partition (Which is ~140 or so GB?) which led to every plugin and even minecraft itself to fail saving data. Taking a deeper look into this our database had expanded quite large (60gb) due to some mis-configured details. At the moment we're running a process which is cleaning up this database and it will be running for a while, hence the server being "up" but being incapable of joining it. This essentially caused a few notable things to fail for ~30 minutes and so some information was lost while this was occurring. WarpSpeed (Portal signs) attempted to save which caused it to fail, wiping the data and leaving signs broken - we're working on this as well. Some Obelisk RoleplayEngine settings will have been lost as well along with Persona and Skill data which was earned between ~2:15pm est and 2:40pm EST (Some persona inventories might be missing if you switched between these times, any changes you attempted to make to your persona or any experience you gained during this time will likely be lost.) Some other details would be auctions and bank transactions during this time will likely not register, we'll be looking in as far as we can into the details. We might be rolling back if the save-faults are too severe. At the moment most player items seem to be fine albeit it if one amongst the staff team was in creative at the time of the crash you'll probably note - sadly - that your items have been replaced with your creative inventory as your inventory also failed to save. We're working on trying to fix this ASAP, but the estimated downtime between database pruning and potential backup restoring might be; between 30 minutes and 1-2 hours. Subject to change. With the introduction of Obelisk's RoleplayEngine I have begun a "Plugin Review" which I do for new plugins introduced to the server to provide feedback on the state of it, what can potentially be changed, and what to keep in mind for future development for said plugin. Usually, and I've done this perhaps once or twice before, when I aim to do this review I attempt to poll the most active users of said plugin for opinions about the state of things, what they like, dislike, etc. However, RoleplayEngine's audience isn't limited to those who do professions, combat, or anything in particular - it's marketed to the playerbase as a whole as chat is an important facet of LotC. So, with this in mind give us your honest opinions! My aim is to help improve RPEngine so it can be something we all come to love together and something we all enjoy using, so it's important you provide your feedback! We don't know what you want unless you tell us. If you select the "other" option post below what you think! If, in the chance you see someone post something you agree with, upvote them!   9. It took less than a moment. A biting cold wind flew through Vailor as if a winter storm was to land ashore shortly - bone cold, leaving grown men and children alike shivering through their clothes. Alone in a forest an aged man drew himself up to full stature, aged and worn robes molding to his movements as he stood upright. He looked about for a moment, the wizened features of his ancient face reflecting for a moment in the midnight light as his gaze absorbed the world about him. As a secondary gust rolled through the leaves around him his robes fluttered in the breeze along with his dusty beard, revealing for a flash more of his countenance. A smile cracked through his features which seemed to match his features perfectly as a low, gravelly chuckle emitted from the elder. He drew forth from his robes a small pipe, withered fingers grasping to it's worn wooden surface, to bring it up to his lips as he turned to head deeper in the forest letting a small trail of smoke rise into the night sky as he walked. Small piles of snow fell off of the man's robes as white spires pierced the horizon above the darkened forest. It was a new day but certainly an old face.

  15. Hello folks. Smaller post, while most of this stuff is technically "big" for development it isn't that interesting to most of you. So, somethings of note. Bug reports has been removed as a sub-forum and has been replaced with our own JIRA issue tracker. For most of you this will mean perhaps some more annoyance but makes our job as developers and coders much, much simpler. Please follow the guidelines on posting issues or your issue may be closed without a response. You may find the guide and the issue tracker here. Support has now been made into it's own sub-forum. Bugs reported here will not be answered. This is for support only. Now, for a small Development update. While both a skill update and an Economy update are on the books (as mentioned in the Community Meeting) only the Skill update (perhaps 4.5.1c) will be going live. We're about to enter what is called a "code freeze" where all of our major projects (e.g. skills, nexus, etc.) will be locked down and be unable to be updated (except for perhaps small updates) while we work towards a more advanced environment where making updates will be much easier and much quicker. For those of you who have some kind of code mind, I'll put a spoiler below to explain what is happening. Anyway, this is a very "cryptic" post for a lot of you - I apologize. I tend to try to avoid making posts that detail too much into our development process but this was one of the exceptions. --501warhead, Lead Developer
  16. Since I was asked to make a response here, I shall. So, some points to be made. These are based on the original lore and as such it's a take it or leave it. Cognatism is the act of convincing a portion of your mind that an illusion is real, able to switch between this portion which is labeled as the "Spectator mind", switching puts you into a trance-like state. However, some flaws exist with this. First off, the act of convincing yourself an illusion is real requires a certain personality and mindset, it's certainly not for everyone. Not just this but... imagine a Cognat's mind after this process: traversing through it would be... pretty difficult. The emotions and feelings a mental mage would read from a Cognat's mind would be very jarring and sporadic to say the least. Memories would be hard to draw forward due to this finite balance a cognat has achieved with this process - by default Cognatism is a natural barrier against mental magic due to the fact that just entering would be like seeing two doors which lead into a house which is only half complete, and only one door can be opened at a time. Memories would be scattered between the minds, and entering a dormant spectator mind... is something a mage should avoid for their mental health. With this in mind the question comes up - can mental magic be learned if you have cognatism or vice versa? The old guide to Cognatism said not only yes but that it was one of the requirements. This... is a little bit incorrect but it's a bit too late to change things, I suppose. So, let's put this in perspective: Cognatism is the act of building a way for yourself to view illusions as real in a trance-like state. Mental magic is the act of finding a mind through the void and communicating with it through words, pictures, or emotions. By default one would assume that mental magic requires a great deal of mental stability from the acting user, how can you find any mind in the void if you can't even touch or access your spectator mind in the slightest unless you switch entirely? The fear of possibly puncturing or accidentally drawing memories or thoughts from that sector of your mind would probably put you off knowing full well that doing so would likely result in very quick insanity when you manage to get an infinite feed loop. This isn't even mentioning the fact as well that you would likely need to maintain active control over your mind at all stages to keep the Spectator mind in it's dormant state as it's not like it's some box you open only when you wish to - split personalities hardly are that simple. Personally, I would probably say that mental magic and Cognatism are in-compatible - even to the portion to say that Cognats are extremely resistant to mental magic. Under this logic, merging them would be... silly, to say the least. However! I acknowledge, Cognatism is not that useful of a magic for those who wish it less for the RP value and more for the character power factor. Under this, I feel like Cognatism shouldn't take a magic slot due to being the basic equivalent to mage house magic. It's "neat"! It's not practical. I don't feel like merging them is the answer however.
