Geoff Turgon has worked his entire life for this. For years he's been the local basketball coach at Redenford High. Maybe the Providence Vigilant's needed a new member on the coaching staff, or would want his son Michael to play for them. Above: Geoff Turgon and his son Michael, before the big game.

PETITE POTINS: The Opening of the Season 1844
DelaneyG replied to Azie's topic in The Kingdom of Oren
Helton's loving maid Gertrude told him not to mind the papers. "Ah, Little Lord," The aged woman said, "I saw you lead that Lady Josephine away from that nasty fight! You two looked like you had a splendid time!" -
On Diligence. In our world, every Man has his place. Whether you be the farmer, the soldier, the butler, or the priest, you serve a purpose. You were gifted with this life by the Creator, and to be virtuous to Him means you must fulfil your role and not let your responsibility fall by the wayside. It is an easy thing to do. We procrastinate. We find excuses to put off our work. ‘We will do it in the morning,’ we say every evening. Then, when morning comes: ‘We will do it in the evening.’ Then our minds fall idle. Then our minds turn to sin. We must be vigilant every day in our fight against such idleness. By keeping our minds and bodies focused on pleasing the Creator, our Lord, through diligence in our work and daily lives, we can win that fight. - - 6 For I have blessed you with My miracle of creation, and you shall draw nearer to My throne by your labors. 7 And you shall discover strength of heart as you work the forge and the plow. - - - - 8 So I am the Most High, and in pursuit of My Virtue, I bid my faithful this: You shall not be idle, nor forget your duties in favor of sloth. - - The Scroll of Virtue, Canticle of Diligence The Creator has given us everything. Each stone we cut, every tree we fell. Every bushel of grain we harvest. It would be an insult to His good nature to sit back and accept these as one would a gift. We must go above and beyond every day to show our devotion to Him. So, we must work the fields and drill in the square. We must strip bark and mould bricks. He has given us all the elements needed for a good life. We must work those elements and enrich our souls through perseverance, so we may find ourselves closer to The Creator. It is not through work alone that one can be diligent. One can be diligent in our practice of faith. We, the Canonist flock, are responsible for our faith just as we are responsible for our labor. If you sit idle, the word of the Creator shall go unsung in your ear. Then, you will stop attending confession. Then, you will stop praying to Him. After that, you are on the path to being lost. I pray that my brethren in faith remain diligent in their daily lives, so they may enjoy the fruit that the Creator has given to them. Samuel Gendik

Legal Name of Applicant: Geoff Turgon Demonstration of Service (5 Years): Supreme Court Justice, 13 years. Solicitor for Ministry of Justice, 6 years. Location of Establishment: https://imgur.com/a/cXJHG9h Building Portfolio: [!] Attached to Mr. Turgon's application are sketches of designs for his land, should it be accepted. A small tie-off for horse: https://imgur.com/a/dwa6cEe A middle sized windmill design: https://imgur.com/a/qO9xFZ5 General farm design: https://imgur.com/a/eq5rjyO Personal Appeal (Optional): "To the Review Board: I must be honest, you can see from my sketches that I do not have that same eye for architecture that others have. I do have an eye for nature, though. I grew up on a farm just like this, and ever since I've left home I've wanted a place like this to call home again. It would be a humble place of living, with emphasis and focused placed on that which grows, that which can be tilled and manipulated to create greens and grains to feed our empire. Thank you for taking the time to review this application. -G.T"

Is Your Character a Jock, a Nerd, a Prep, or a Goth?

When Geoff Turgon read this letter, his entire spirit falters. This man that he worked alongside, befriended, rose through the ranks with. This man that he fought and squabbled with. This man that he loves like a brother. Anton was in such pain, and there was nothing he could do to stop it. Geoff wished that it ended better the last time they spoke. Quietly, Geoff started preparing notes should he need them - praying that the powers-at-be do the right thing. "Anton, I hope to see you soon." He folded up the letter and tucked it away in his desk.

A Tragic Death for a Tragic Man [PK]
DelaneyG replied to KaiserJacobII's topic in Character Graveyard
After everything, Geoff made his way home. Idly he worked within the house, attempting to process the events. All he knew was that his heart ached. In recent months the two had been at odds. The old friends had become rivals. One thought replayed over and over in his head. "Left, not right." "Left, not right." "Left, not right." Had he gone left instead of right, everything could have ended differently. If only he saw. If only he understood. Geoff would never forgive himself for that. -

Geoff's letter eventually reaches Mr. Tippen Root. It reads: @Caelria "Mr. Root, I hope this finds you well. I hope, now that you and yours have turned back the enemy thrice, you will have more time to correspond with me. I miss you, and our banter greatly. Please write back. -G.T"

Geoff Turgon heared news of this glorious victory against the dreaded Ferrymen banditos. "I do hope my good friend Mr. Tippen Root is eating good and getting big in the gyms of Haelun'or." Justice Turgon penned his old friend a letter, hoping it finds him in good health.

Ruling on the Request for Appeal in the Case of THE CROWN V BRANDT & d’EMYTH Justice TURGON delivers the Opinion of the Court THE CROWN, represented by the MINISTRY OF JUSTICE has filed for an appeal in the case of THE CROWN V BRANDT & d’EMYTH following the declaration of a MISTRIAL by the CIRCUIT COURT. As such, the court has granted this appeal. The Circuit Court has declared this case as a mistrial after reviewing the evidence, and found that the lead investigator held biases against the defendant. The lead investigator had a run-in with the defendant in response to the incident at hand, before an arrest was made. The question we ask ourselves is this: “Should any evidence gathered in a manner that shows bias be accepted in court?” As the Crown has stated in its appeal, the prosecutor or investigator must perform in a manner in which they believe the defendant to be guilty for them to properly do their job, and seek justice in court on behalf of the victims. This is not a failure of the system, but an endorsement. The prosecution must fight tooth and nail to prove the defendant's guilt, not the other way around. Both prosecution and defense are convinced their client is in the right, so it is natural that evidence will be submitted biased in one way or another. A judge is not appointed lightly. They are intelligent, well read, and most importantly they are wise. In this case, the investigator’s past with the defendants were made known and the judge should understand the implications behind that, and have that taken into consideration. When listening to the evidence of a case be presented, the judge may take into account the context of evidence gathered and even weigh the possible biases held by those who gathered the evidence. In our codex, the only way a mistrial may be declared is if there is a breach in Court procedure. At no point were these procedures breached, so therefore the ruling of CROWN V BRANDT & d’EMYTH as a mistrial is overturned, and shall be remanded to the lower courts to go through the trial process. AMICUS BRIEF FOR THE COURT’S REVIEW OF THE DANGEROUS DRUG ORDINANCE SUBMITTED BY Geoff Turgon ISSUE PRESENTED Does the Solicitor-General have authority to interpret and change existing law? No. Does the Solicitor-General have authority to legislate law? No. ARGUMENTS Does the Solicitor-General have authority to interpret and change existing law? The Solicitor-General’s duties and authorities are outlined within Imperial Law, 601.04. In this section we see policing and enforcing law, offering services of lawyers and clerks in prosecuting and defense. We see his roles clearly laid out, and nowhere is it his business to interpret the law, and change it thusly. A lawyer’s role is to interpret the law and argue his interpretation, but in the end he does not change it. He simply argues for his client, and it is up to the judiciary to decide which argument holds the most weight. The Solicitor-General’s office is permitted to interpret law the way a lawyer can: Their clerks may act as both prosecutor and defense, and as such must interpret the law to argue for their clients, but that is where that authority stops. A Constable’s role is to enforce the law as it is written and interpreted by the legislative and judiciary branches, respectively. He cannot interpret the law and decide whether or not an act is criminal- it simply is or is not. Were he to detain an individual and confiscate their possession because he interpreted law in a way that would declare that individual as a criminal, he would be stripping them of their given rights (O.R.C: ADDENDUM, Excerpt Upon the Rights of Man). The Solicitor-General’s office is charged with staffing a Constabulary and policing Oren, but it does not allow him to create law and then enforce it. The interpretation of the law is saved for the Courts and the Crown’s judges. It is their sworn duty to listen to arguments presented before them, analyze the dispute, and make the decision. To take away from the Courts’ authority to interpret the law and put it instead in the hands of officials appointed by the government itself and not by the people’s representatives is both a dangerous precedent and a castration of the judiciary. Does the Solicitor-General have authority to legislate law? The Solicitor-General is permitted to draft law for the consideration of the Crown. At no point can he act as a one man legislative body and pass law. To do so would be tyrannical, and would undermine the very foundations of what we have created. As the Court said in Adler v Non Partisan Courts Act “The creation of legislation is an act of compromise, a legislator works with other legislators to determine each and every word in a bill. The phrasing of bills often results from months of careful negotiation and painstaking discussions.” The Court was very wise to say such. To create law, legislators are required to work together. Negotiate, discuss, and then vote on what they have drafted. One man cannot negotiate, discuss, and vote alone. When one man does those alone, it is the act of a tyrant. Conclusion The Ministry of Justice serves as a tool for our government and must be reminded of its place - to enforce and argue laws in court, not to create them. What is the purpose of the legislative and judiciary branches if this office is permitted to legislate, interpret, and enforce with no separation of power? If the Solicitor-General wishes to see change done, he must argue it like a lawyer for the Crown’s consideration, not circumvent those who grant him his authority. The precedent that would be set, should this Edict be upheld, would render the judiciary useless and easily circumvented by whomever happens to hold the keys to the Solicitor-General’s office. Perhaps Sir Galbraith truly thought he was doing good and for that one cannot hold ill will, but should his Office hold such power down the road we may regret it deeply. Yours Humbly, Geoff Turgon
