Exactly, so following the line of succession it should be naturally gunnerdude

  2. I like the idea of fort radii: if you warclaim a major fort and win you can then warclaim anything within X hundred blocks of it, including the capital. Prevents the wall of infinite forts.
  3. Oh, the attempt makes good RP. But you can do that anyway, hell, you could log in and do it right now. This thread isn't about the attempt though, it's asking for a rule saying "if you win these battles force PK all orcs forever." Many groups have been wiped out over the history of the server, but that's because their players decided to stop playing them (or did so more stealthily). If a group has the determination and tenacity to keep going though, a GM is not going to wander over and ban them all for playing their characters because "they won a genocide warclaim against some of your race".
  4. However, genocide is prevented by the most basic of server mechanics, respawning and character creation. You can bully a playerbase off the server by raiding them constantly if so inclined (or you could before the elves invented walls) but you can't prevent them from respawning and you can't prevent more players making characters of that race. And if you do manage to harass a playerbase to the point where they don't want to play any more it's likely the powers that be will start changing rules to prevent you from doing so any more. The only way to remove a race is either for nobody to want to play it (not gonna happen) or for The Great Staff Hammer to remove it from the server. And for people saying that OOC restrictions on RP are bad, supporting the OOC removal of a whole race is the epitomy of hypocrisy. You weren't genocided, your city was sacked and destroyed. If the Snow Elves had experienced genocide then you wouldn't be RPing in Lindale because there'd be a staff order banning you from playing Snow Elves, because they'd all be dead. You're aware you've suggested here that a race's nation leader gets to dictate if every member of that race can play their character or not if they lose? For example, SupremacyOps gets to agree terms to the removal of the Elf race from the server and the force PK of all elves. Guys, look at this idea again, long and hard. It's asking for the ability to arbitrarily delete a whole race from the server based on a couple of warclaims. The admins are never going to implement that, and any discussion of it just serves to brew argument. In other news, Watyll, your current username is probably the least tasteful one from a legitimate member I've ever seen on this server. And that's saying something.
  5. Wouldn't we need to build to post-apocalyse old maps? That would divert resources away from 4.0, no?
  6. What regulations though? Requiring teachers doesn't improve the quality of magic, it just cliques it. It's all pain no gain from a community perspective.
  7. Do you actually envisage a situation where the attempt of one side to wholly and permanently wipe out the RP of the other is going to be mutually enjoyable?
  8. That's pretty much case-in-point as to why things end up ET restricted and with persona restrictions.
  9. If they actually worked they would not have been removed. VAs blocked the flow of RP and failed to regulate villainy. MAs overvalued magic and enabled staff-endorsed powergaming, and suffered from the fundamental flaw of a finite lifespan: T5 characters were so hard to get they never died and thus the server converged on a very large number of T5 magi. We removed these things because we tried them and they proved ineffective. What little benefit they had wasn't worth the cost.
  10. It's impossible to do because you can't PK another character, and the war rules prevent the destruction of their capital. Genocide is less of a possible course of action and more of a somewhat tasteless running joke.
  11. I'm hearing there are a large number of golems running about that popped out of nowhere. People do realise you have to be built incharacter by a character that acquired the requisite knowledge incharacter, right?

      BrandNewKitten

I make golems all time. Yup. I make rabbit golem and turkey golem and robert downey jr golem. Yup Yup.

Why do you never make a Kitten Golem then Kitten?

  12. Methane's CH4. No sulphur involved.
  13. The firework ignites and launches into the sky. It wavers, a little unusual, then starts tumbling head over tail out of balance leaving great spirals of fire in its wake. The whole thing abruptly explodes, and for the next few minutes it rains ale.
  14. I'd be geniunely surprised if that sentiment is shared by the majority of proponents. A far better solution in my opinion is to use the magic plugin to regulate magic. There's no teacher cliques but magic is made rarer simply by the need to learn the spells. Tel's magic-learning system could be our ace card to fix this particular problem.
  15. This produces a setup where teachers get bombarded with so many teaching requests they burn out and publically group mock new players asking about magic on threads, where people who geniunely want to play mages can't whereas Gronkk is a T4 Water Mage. Yes, we have a lot of mages, but it's the far lesser evil than a locking system that doesn't work outside of specific and small cases. It does not work as a universal system. I'll also throw this out there: if we relock magic we will wipe everyone. You people proposing we relock will have to go through the system yourselves. Still want to do it?
  16. Let's not pretend the MA system worked. Ski and Cruz axed it for a reason, and it wasn't so they could get magic.
  17. Alteration is a unique case in that it's one of the only two subtypes locked (short for "guildlocked", for those who don't know, "locking" means to acquire the magic you have to learn it from another character ingame, as opposed to free, where you can learn it from books or in backstory) for out-of-character reasons, the other being Mental Magic. Every other subtype can only be learned from a teacher has that status for in-character reasons: they're rare magics jealously guarded by the guilds the possess them in character. Mental Magic I personally wanted to outright remove as with the removal of the MA it was rapidly becoming long-range metamancy. It was instead argued it should be locked instead so it wasn't wiped out. For some reason, Alteration followed. Unlike 2nd-Gen Necromancy, Shamanism and the like, Alteration is a widely known and documented magic and is locked entirely for out of character reasons. Given mechanical standard and PvP default I see no reason to keep it so. Alteration is magic magic, and we have all the mechanisms in place already to prevent abuse of it.
  18. We don't have any siege weapon plugins and GM siege weapons are a thing of the past. Regardless, GMs will not give you modreq access to settlements outside of scheduled battles. It's not a restriction because there are no siege mechanics to restrict, this would require siege rules to be added. Besides, this is what planned battles are for. Siege weapons are for sieges, not hit and run attacks. If a settlement has a solid gate policy stopping you raiding it, then just raid someone else.
  19. Underground farms, explicitly against the rules since Aegis. Boatgliders, explicitly against the rules. Soulstoning out of combat, explicitly against the rules. Blockjumping, explicitly against the rules. And if something is against the rules you aren't allowed to do it. Do you really not get that? This isn't some technicality up for debate, the moderation staff have looked at these things individually and decided to make them against the rules for the betterment of the wider server. Minecraft's designed to allow you to build things. I've little doubt Mojang would have patched out this exploit if they knew about it and it was simple. That's moot anyway though, staff have ruled this is a glitch and is against the rules. Your most recent method to PvP High Elves because you ain't man enough to take on Oren is gone. Deal with it.
  20. And I'm saying I geniunely don't believe you actually think jumping out of a boat at the last second to survive a several hundred block fall is in there by design, which begs the question, why are you arguing that it is? What do you possibly gain from that? For those interested, this bug appears to originate in how Minecraft handles vehicles. The vehicle moves by itself, and while in it you copy its position. The vehicle is serverside and thus when it lags the vehicle appears to leave you behind until you teleport into it, as I'm sure a lot of us have seen happen. When you leave the vehicle, you go back to your playermodel's speed. Minecraft doesn't copy over your speed when you get out and thus your velocity is zero. You then fall from the height you got out. That means that if you get out of the boat at the last second, you don't fall very far. If you don't get out of the boat and it hits the ground with you in it, you die. The Boat Parachute is a bug or a limitation of Minecraft's vehicle system, not a feature.
  21. Mechanical Standard is a rule I wrote for lore. It essentially went that provided it mirrored the capabilities of the actual item you could RP said item as whatever you wanted within reason. The name has since been hijacked by those pesky GMs for the rule that things that are mechanically possible but not otherwise prohibited by the server rules. Everyone conveniently omits that last part to justify bullshit. The ruling from the powers that be is that using the boat as a glider isn't allowed. Therefore, the use of the boat as a glider isn't allowed.
  22. Or arrows applied to boat via bow. Free armour and weapons courtesy of gravity.
  23. Cyndikate, do you actually think Mojang intended for boats to be used as aerial dropships, complete with water particle effects, that only work when you jump out of them at the last second? Seriously? Patching bugs takes time, effort and awareness of the bug in the first place. If it's not been patched it means it isn't a serious problem for Mojang.
