I experienced this Nexus system for longer than you have. I know how it worked. All of the wars were funded with volunteer national grinders who hardly emoted a thing they did. All of the transactions either happened with 2-3 emotes after yelling your offer in the middle of a street to get the bare minimum of roleplay needed to exchange the goods or through shops that offer no roleplay interaction at all. Nexus was not a roleplay encouraging plugin, so much so that people were encouraged to spend more time away from anybody else in order to grind massive netherwart and tree farms for days on end. There was no personal connection to anything you made, and half the time when you made something it was just for the experience and the actual item is swiftly discarded.

It was not the best way to do a profession-plugin, that’s for sure.

Dude this man has seen some ****, you just don't understand Dan

But do not worry, for Horton the actually GODLY is here.

      Spoiler

      >Compares LotC players to African kids

      >Gives example of the bad of nexus

      >Refuses to note the good of nexus

      >Refuses to try the good of nexus

      >Refuses to acknowledge nexus was horribly easy to do

      >Uses experience on the server as reason for why he is right

      >Isn't jaded (Making the above irrelevant)

      >Likely hasn't ever tried to be creative with nexus

      >Has never heard of how an actual economy works

Basically I'm saying that there are a ton of possibilities with nexus, you merely hid behind the excuse that there isn't a way that RP and nexus can coexist. It's along the same lines of RP and PVP, you don't really understand how it can be done because you've never seen it be done. You're scared of something new and can't easily adapt to it. Nexus did have its drawbacks of being super grindy but that's on the players that grinded, that doesn't effect you. That effects those hardcore sweatballs.

"B-b-but Horton they ruined the economy!!" Lol no, look at Norland. Norland is using marks, a separate currency from mina to get around the issues of others ruining the economy. You can still run an internal economy and nexus gave the benefit of allowing players easier ways to do that. It's simply that most didn't realize what it could do because they were too focused on what it did to LotC's playerbase.

Though what it did to LotC's playerbase was nothing, the community ruined themselves by themselves. They took nexus as a way to be super OP man but really that isn't what roleplay should be about. It should be about being someone you can't normally be in real life; and no, I don't mean an OP magicman I mean things as simple as peasants trying to climb the food chain. The server doesn't have a huge goal and ways to make that goal a challenge, you've got to make that yourself.
