  1. The best part about playing a generic human is that the admins can’t voluntell ST to retcon your race, only all the lore you’ve ever made.

Can’t get shelved if your playerbase is too heavy to fit on the shelf so it’d just break it.

  2. Recently @camocat9 made a post regarding unwalled towns and settlements. The title seems a little misleading, because the issue at hand most certainly is not walls, its the lack of small/rural towns dotted across the map. Having played in Anthos (Fringe) – Vailor, and leaving at map change, there used to be a much wider variety of small towns dotted across the map. While then it seemed to be tied to goon culture, whereby any lord with at least 6 guys to show up to war claim would get a piece of land to build on, it did lead to a variety of locations across the map which felt very real. Sure, there might not be a lot of players there, but these locations often suffered from two issues, as outlined in Camocat’s post; Those being 1) Out of the way location, making travel to that settlement difficult for 0 rp OR (and I will get to why it is an or in a moment) 2) The local lords had not deigned any rp worthy organizations exist within the area besides a pvp goonsquad, and nominally built up the area to either have a cool castle or simply a place to put further goons. During Atheira and in the Fringe, I rped under devland99, who was the lord of a small place called Owynswood in Adria, just over a hill past the capital. The rp there was fun, but I distrinctly remembered no-one ever stayed because there weren’t any other organizations besides the goon keep. To keep a small town healthy, you need leaders who are invested in the rp health of the town, which I think activity checks do encourage in some way. In another way, a lot of the flavor and lore of the world is lost by focusing so much on centralization. I miss those small towns, and there are some, like Johnstown, with leaders who care. I believe the statement “Uncentralized rp is a cancer on the community and always leads to someone logging in and deciding there is no-one to rp with” is factually wrong. How many times do I log into Helena and all I see are afkers. Yay? Its neat that I see someone, but it kinda removes a lot of the joy I used to get when I met someone on the roads. So many situations have been lost with the advent of supercentralized roleplay hubs. When I’d log into Owynswood, and see nobody, what would I do? I would leave Owynswood, find someone to rp with travelling the roads, and then maybe head back to owynswood to rp. It actually made smith rp enjoyable, because it felt very personal. The convenience of having a bustling city with all players in one location is lost. People like to create things in minecraft, its the point of playing the game. When you put everyone into the same bubble of City Rp on a fantasy roleplay server, you alienate portions of the playerbase and make the world feel less dynamic, and like we have less of an impact on it. My problem with massivecraft, and why I loved LOTC so much, was because I impacted the world. The world actually, factually changed due to my presence in it. Cities, highly centralized regions, it takes away some of that. I don’t want a return to the old free build system or nexus settlement totem system, and the current build system in my opinion works fine, but I do wish that the small towns if they are going to require activity checks, are at least put someplace central, or given to people who deeply care about creating a rural community. If you are looking for realism, the most realism is cities often aren’t right next to each other. They compete for resources, and travelling a highway you are certainly going to see small towns all over it getting trade to and from a city. As for the bandit thing regarding walls on small towns, lots of small towns in the middle ages did indeed have walls around them, but if a centralized government cannot protect its settlements, maybe it is time for that settlement to think about feudalism, or vassalship to a more effective state. To conclude, I disagree, personally as a player within the niche, that “uncentralized rp is a cancer”. I believe that just because places are sometimes empty doesn’t mean they are horrible. We have never had our community exist in a bubble. Back in the day, we had skype, now we have discord and it is easier than ever to coordinate oocly with your local community. I believe a guide to playing in and supporting small towns is probably in order from the halflings, and some chances ought to be given by NLs and Admins to smaller settlements rather than holding up the activity check pistol to people’s heads. Some regions die out, it is fair to say that, and perhaps empty regions should be abandoned, but so long as an area has people using and enjoying it, I see little problem in letting them exist. So what if people turn a centralized small town into a hub and Helena has less afking people? Good, so long as others are having fun, who cares if there is less lag in Helena. The city will always be a busy place simply due to it being the city, where people always go to find certain goods or rp they can’t get in their smalltown, or because they like city rp and live there. 3 keys to small town success: Allow them to build along heavily traveled roads (maybe have a road activity check to give people the hot tips), Find competent leaders who are good at communicating and organizing interesting rp Maybe change the dynamics of travel or the need to travel to facilitate more map crossings and therefore random road encounters
  3. Johnstown doesn’t have walls, its a pretty cool place. All unwalled cities need to thrive is either 1) A roleplay draw/organization which hosts events and rp that draws people on regularly 2) A centralized location on the main roads where it can easily be found
  4. How does one add italics or bold print to books. I understand you must use the section sign but it seems to be disabled/

  5. Top tier potion lore, all need to be added to the game, would make cities way more fun.
  6. ”In hoc signo vinces, Deus Vult!” Goren recites
  7. After 6 years I have come to the ultimate conclusion on the greatest roleplay group on this server. It is the halflings. Wandering into Brandybrook only to find it packed with halflings rping at some random time proves this.

    1. NotEvilAtAll

      NotEvilAtAll

That’s what happens when someone pings the halfling discord. The infamously inactive race comes to life for an hour.

If you ever want to interact with halflings, all you gotta do is join the discord and ping the @roleplay role whenever you are in the village. There’s almost always a handful of halflings willing to log online to RP with you.

Except during off-peak, because we aren’t large enough to consistently provide RP for australian and european timezones. Probably what we’re gonna try and improve during 8.0 if it’s possible.

  8. Father Goren sees and compares to Prayer XX in The Comprehensive Book of Prayers.
  9. I appreciate this post. You never have to re-apply for the server, nor do you have to kill off a persona during map transitions. I enjoy the idea of a new player adventurer group, as it can probably lead to some unique groups forming up on the server. Generally, new players get sucked into existing groups and systems and aren’t able to go off on their own. Back in the day, some of the most fun I ever had was just hopping on with a few friends and exploring the world and interacting with people as they went about their own roleplay lives. I do recommend you find at least one experienced player who can help out with commands, but otherwise a lot of the fun comes from discovering things for yourself.
  10. Father Goren always knew this day would come, the great Wonk invasion. The frogmen come!
  11. Father Goren pens a letter to this strange faith, it reads “Dear Canonists, if it is appropriate to call you as such due to your fealty to the Canon scrolls, I am a member of the Holy Mother Church. My name is Father Goren, and I desire to meet with you. I intend enter your sanctuary with an open mind and open arms, and intend nothing of my visit but love. May GOD protect you, and the Canon guide you! Should you decide you wish to meet with me, send me a bird at this address” [!] Written below would be the address to the Helena Basilica “I have the honor of being you humble servant, Fr. Goren”

  13. Uh what? I had an alt-forum account named “Thomas Aquinas” which made accusations against the emperor calling him a Harrenite. There was no deception at all because the family of the priest I was playing at the time was being unjustly executed on trumped up treason charges. You can go and read the whole drama if you want, the account still exists. I had quoted the unfinished scrolls which are pretty nearly identical to the finished scrolls, and I didn’t have an alt to “decieve” people about canonism, I had an alt to prevent Empire meta-gaming and make the drama more fun.
  14. Very interesting, I remember reading the Holy Scrolls in 2016 and it was an unfinished version of what we currently have. I even quoted them on my alt,.
  15. And when did this supposed copyrighting occur? give me a year
  16. Hmmm.. so since you were there when it was first created, and most likely have never revisited any of the lore at any point in time that you are therefore more informed than me? Interesting. I roleplayed a priest back in Atheira, Vailor, Axios, and now in Arcas. I can confirm that there was a very clear and well written lore attempt back in VAILOR that proposed a very weak magic system for Canonism revolving around calling on saints to perform minor miracles like MAKE A SWORD GLOW and ALLOW SOMEONE TO SPEAK A LANGUAGE TEMPORARILY. Although, you must clearly be right because you were there when the server was first created and the religion was in its infancy, so clearly you are an expert. The purpose of this post is to simply agree with you, and you are absolutely correct!
  17. Ah, so when something starts out being rp’ed differently nearly 8 years ago, it is therefore never allowed to develop naturally and change. I especially like the logic that if something started out as a fanfiction of something, no matter how much new information and different worldbuilding occurs, it is still a fanfiction.
  18. Wow, okay, lets start off with the worst part of Canonism! The age of the religion Canonism is a stinky old religion made by stinky old players named DIB and VIROS who are both confirmed Neo-N*zis, it has been around forever on the server unlike cool new religions yet hasn’t radically been changed! I left this server 5 years ago and have recently come back and STILL NOTHING HAS CHANGED!!!111! Religion should be constantly changing and radically shifting with the times, not remaining stable! ITS FAKE Canonism is literally fake! None of the people who run or created the lore for Canonism are admins or mods!!11 What the frick!?!/!? HOw can people not at all connected to the lore be allowed to run a religion which makes up the majority of the active player population!?!?! Canonism has no magic system unlike Druids or Monks or Shamans, and has no actual magic occuring, it is all based on faith and belief like real life!! IF THINGS AREN’T RETCONNED OR RETROACTIVELY CHANGED AS LORE IS RETROACTIVELY CHANGED, HOW IS THAT FAIR TO THE ADMINS!?!!? It is racist and intolerant Canonism was made by an evil evil evil man named VIROS who is confirmed to be a Catholic priest irl and DIB who is a white nationalist. As such, clearly this religion reflects the real life values of the leaders in the religion. Canonism bans inter-species breeding cuz G-D said! Yeah, okay, I get it, half-elves suffer all the same curses as humans and elves, being unable to breed and half shortened lifespans, but why should I be IRPly punished just because G-D said no?!?!? And Heresy, this isn’t the middle ages, it just isn’t fair that any time people try to make cults and heresies that they get killed by the church. Too much reading Have you ever read the Holy Scrolls!? TLDR; ITs 20 pages long of lore u can’t even use anywhere, whats the point, not to mention the nearly 100 pages of extra stuff made by players like Bagely and Sug and Totus, literally too much to read. How is any new player going to get into that! Based of the worst religion Literally based of Catholicism. Useless, dumb, evil religion. Actually the embodiment of evil. If you want to play a human religion which is based off of a better rl source, do Rashidunism, they are based of Islam which is a better religion because they never oppressed scientists. No magic! This may seem like a repeat of #2, but no, this is different. There is not just no real lore because no mods support it, but no magical system. Even if there was no lore, there is no magic to make it worth your while to be a priest. Priests cant banish sickness or make their prayers work, literally no gain from being a priest. The only people who can even be priests are those who want to dedicate a lot of time to writing, reading, and actually directly rping and interacting with individuals in a way that might not benefit them at all and have a distinct disadvantage to warriors, other magic users, and even monsters, with their only power inherently coming from faith and dedication and the moral effect the religion has on others! NO FUN AND NO OPPORTUNITY FOR INTERESTING RP! TLDR; Canonism is an old religion which formed naturally as a result of player experiences on the server rather than artificial creation by the Staff or Lore team. The massive amount of Lore is all player written and organically developing as a labor of love by various individuals with no real power on the server as these individuals are NOT Staff or on the Lore team. All attempts at giving Canonism some Lore tie ins or magical aspects have been denied, which has led to the common OOC belief that Canonism is “fake” (to quote drfate). It is based off of an intolerant medieval variant of a real world religion, and creates drama and violence IRP through its policies and actions. Clearly this is toxic to the server, and needs to be deleted and replaced with a hand crafted by staff magic system.
  19. HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH! It is not for lack of trying that Canonism is “fake” with no magical or “lore” backing. Canonism is one of the only truly player run and created religions on the server, and staff ******* hates it. All attempts at giving canonism magic systems or any form of mystical elements have been denied, despite Canonism being older than any artificial admagic system and using lore which ACTUALLY OCCURED on the server.
  20. Okay it is a good thing the individual in question isn’t suing LOTC and is instead requesting that the poor practice of the Staff be corrected
