  1. I like the idea, but feel the changes necessary would be too drastic, and would cause as many problems as it solves. It's always easier to turn what you have into something better, instead of starting from scratch. I have a few thoughts I'd like to share, and then I'll get into how I think your ideas should be implemented. Heavy handed approach I agree that it would be beneficial to keep players closer together, for the reasons you mentioned; activity and accessibility. I think your idea is a good foundation, but forcing players to stay closer together removes choice, and effects a lot of edge cases. What if you wanted to set up an outpost to scout out the enemy before a siege? What if you want to establish a new holy site for your religion in a very specific location? What if there's a resource you absolutely have to capitalize, regardless of political consequence? An ideal solution would allow settlements to spread out, but encourage players to play more closely together. I assume this was the intention for activity checks. Resource based economy In the real world, things like gold, iron, wood, have value because they can be turned into things that are useful, or because they can be used in a way that is useful. For example, a chunk of raw iron has very little value on it's own, but by refining it, forging it, and turning it into a tool, value has been added in a way that makes the finished product more desirable. The effort of all these processes, and the skills required to carry them out, creates scarcity, which drives up cost. If I could find the tool I was looking for from a short stroll in the woods, it would hold no value, because everybody would just do the same. My issue with a resource based economy in a game is that items have very little value to start with, and it is hard to add value to items in a way that makes it consistently desirable. In real life, the creation of a tool relies on the experience and effort of countless people, but in a game, I can mine the iron, chop the tree, and bring it all together in just a couple of minutes. Think about how Mina are created, used, and destroyed, and how precisely all these things can be controlled. My idea Have few 'capital tiles' that have a high upkeep in Mina, and require settlements to vassal themselves to one of these 'capital tiles'. Then, charge settlements an upkeep in Mina based on their distance to the capital. At the beginning of a world, the Humans may group together around a single capital, building their settlements closely together to avoid paying high fees. Small settlements that do not pull in much Mina would inevitably want to stay closer to a capital, and large settlements that are quite successful would be able to shoulder the higher fees. As a nation, outposts would still be viable, but limited in number. As a settlement, space and distance would be a serious consideration. As an individual, roleplay would be more accessible, and settlements that are far away are guaranteed to be active. If a settlement is unable to shoulder the fees, it falls into decay, and may be claimed by another group willing to take up the mantle. A large settlement may chose to become a capital itself, if they are able to pay the price.

  3. It is far from my first time returning to Lord of the Craft, and I'm sure it won't be the last. While I'm here, I hope I can contribute to the community in a way I haven't been able to previously. I first logged in when I was only thirteen years old, almost eight years ago now. Suffice to say, my writing was subpar, I barely understood what was happening, and I was constantly an obstruction to those trying to enjoy the game. Despite this, you all accepted me. You gave me a place I could call home. The next time I would return to Lord of the Craft, I found myself in a new place. A giant worm had eaten the old world, and things felt new. Shields had been added, boats had been fixed (I think?), and generally Minecraft had taken a big step towards what it is today. I had taken an interest in the world. I had taken the time to learn about its history, its magic, races, religions, languages, ... But I was still immature. My writing had improved, but I was standoffish and mean, I powergamed, and I was generally an obstruction to those trying to enjoy the game. Despite this, you all accepted me. You gave me a place I could call home. The past five years have been hell and high water. At sixteen, I lost my brother, aged twenty five, to a fentanyl overdose. At seventeen, I started smoking weed, an addiction that follows me to this day. At eighteen, we moved to the city, and I found myself isolated. The same year, the situation at home had become unbearable, and me and my sister moved out together. At nineteen, I unknowingly found myself in a polyamorous relationship, and made some of the most regrettable mistakes of my life. I tell you now, honestly, the kind of person I was. I used my hurt as an excuse to be awful to others. I took advantage of people I considered easy targets. I was unreliable, lazy, and cowardly. When last I had returned, three years ago, I wanted to do better. I did my best to maintain a calm exterior, but inside I was roiling. Looking back at my posts from that time, I'm proud of how much I have learned. But still, looking back in my heart, I feel angry, hurt and alone. I was far from where I am today. So this time, I'm going to do better. Thank you for giving me a place to call home.

  7. The purpose isn’t strictly to teach “Good”, more to teach the rules and help avoid the obvious bad, like emotes that are powergamey. Also note how snoopy uses the word “Correct” and not “Good”

    Thromr isn’t a sneaky assassin who’s parents died as a baby. He isn’t a hero, he isn’t a warrior, nor is he a master craftsman. The only thing he has really accomplished has been becoming the favorite child of his parents, a small feat considering the fact that he has no siblings. He had grew up with a normal childhood and had made normal friends, although he was still wasn’t content with life. He has so far lived in the safety of his mountain home of Kal’Varoth and had often heard local chatter of the great treasures of distant lands. Recently the urge to venture out and find these riches has become too great to ignore. He had brought the matter up with his ordinary parents who had sheltered and fed him his entire life. Although they had always supported their only son they would much rather have him live a simple and honest life in the mountains and not the life of a trouble making adventurer. Outraged, Thromr would pack up his things, saying a quick prayer to Yemekar as he walked out the door. The only thing he would leave behind would be a note promising his eventual return. Leaving home was bittersweet for Thromr, but he knows that he’s ready for greater things. Who knows where the road will take him?
  13. “Observe” said the Ailer’nealu, pointing at a nearby boulder. The world would fill with an unnatural although not inherently evil energy as the Ailer’nealu would start to shiver from strain, as if about to collapse from exhaustion. The hairs of Thromr’s body would start to stand on end as the earth would crack and crumble around the boulder, the same feeling of unnatural energy collecting around it. The boulder would start to rise from the ground as the Ailer’nealu’s breathing would start to become ragged, a cry of surprise coming from Thromr. Then, just as quickly as it had begun, the energy would disappear and the boulder would slam into the dirt just as the Ailer’nealu would fall to his knees. “So tell me again Taelu’mali ” said the Ailer’nealu in between breaths “how does telekinesis work?”. “I was wrong, teacher” said Thromr “Telekinesis is the flow of energy, not the creation of energy.” The Ailer’nealu would nod “You are ready to start, Taelu’mali”
