I mean you're leaving a lot of wiggle room here, under these rules someone could be 19 and be in a relationship with someone under 16, which is anywhere from 0-15, and I dunno about you but that's still pretty bad, or alternatively you could be any age over 20, say 50, and be in a relationship with a 17 year old which is way creepy

hello I'm an environmentalist and I'm more concerned about the baboons routinely eating human trash and dying why were we dumping so far into their habitat or alternatively why were they forced to look so far for food that they found it OR why were we dumping tainted meat where animals could get to it

just put your heart back in your chest and take responsibility for your place as a human; show the animals and the earth real respect instead of absolving yourself of guilt by refusing to partake in animal products and painting everyone who does as the real villains of the story here

"we have chemical fertilizer that can be used"

you say that you aren't trying to justify a vegan human race, yet you said that it'd be easier to justify our society collapsing than continuing to enslave animals

"animals are engineered to be prey items for humans"

      animals as in domestic animals

domestic animals were engineered by us

we made domestic animals through centuries of selective breeding

"it's our responsibility to look after them"

Animals don't care about being "enslaved", they don't see it that way. They see a situation where they have no competition, predators, or lack of food or shelter at all, and grow old enough to breed. Those are the things they care about. For the type of animals they are, they're literally in animal paradise.

"animals are enslaved" "modern society can survive without enslaving animals" "it's easier to justify society collapsing because it's built on slavery"

We aren't ******* over any animals. If anything, we're elevating them to a position where they have no pressure at all. Look at anything in ol' mother nature, and that's the place everything else is racing to.

How can you justify disliking animal cruelty yet you support the murder of animals?

Because eating meat is natural, we'd harm the earth at present if we didn't, we have no way to survive as a species without it at the moment, and there's a huge difference between giving an animal a good animal-life then peacefully culling them, and forcing an animal to live in a cramped box for years surrounded by its own filth, getting beaten, being forcefully inseminated then having children taken and killed, and then finally being hung upside-down while bleeding out.

"we have chemical fertilizer that can be used"

Already mentioned this; We can't produce enough of it at the moment to support the current farms we have, nor is it efficient enough with our current technology to replace good ol' poop.

Also, chickens don't have a good deal either, and they won't unless you get their eggs from an independent place. Nor would these poop-cows be treated well, and independent farms wouldn't be able to afford to keep them if they weren't also selling their meat. So, they'd still be fed special diets, they'd still be kept in captivity their whole lives, and they'd still be industrialized beyond belief. Picture it: The vast, writhing mcdonalds poop-farms, where cows are tied in boxes-- Actually that sounds like somebody's fetish, never mind.

"animals are engineered to be prey items for humans"

that clearly wasn't stated; what I said was "every animal we eat" directly after referencing domestic animals and directly before mentioning cows and horses, get better at reading comprehension before you disappoint your teacher u butt

"it's our responsibility to look after them"

You're talking about animals that are happiest living in herds with massive roaming space, eat thousands of pounds of food, expell waste like nobody's business, and prefer their human contact to be brief, yet cannot even give birth without us.

Who can afford to keep such animals, that require our constant care and attention?

Oh yeah, that's right, people who sell their meat when it's their time to go to make up for the effort it takes to raise them.

Do you know what happens to animals being looked after by people who can't sell their meat?

Either all of them die because the farmer can't afford to keep them well and happy any more, and has to harvest them all immediately, or they lounge around sick and starving to death because they didn't want to bother. Did you know that industrial farms in america are reimbursed for animals they let starve to death or die in the cold, and end up getting payed for animal cruelty? How about you go throw a fit about that, instead of the argument "well eating meat is murder"!

"animals are enslaved" "modern society can survive without enslaving animals" "it's easier to justify society collapsing because it's built on slavery"

The practices of crop-based farms are way worse for the environment than ranches or even industrial meat farms. Increasing their output to feed the entirety of the human race would be catastrophic for the planet, and further they wouldn't have any backbone to support the farms with our technology as it currently is. Cutting out meat entirely would be worse for everyone, not just us. More animals would die from us deciding "oh we have a heart, we simply can't predate our sweet cow friends any more!" than they would from us sucking it up and persisting how we are until technology could support weaning off of relying on munching on other living creatures.

Furthermore "enslavement" is a really silly word to use in this situation. If we're looking at them as people, then we have to look at ourselves as animals. We are the most successful apex on the planet, spanning every environment, propagating on every continent, staying consistently without a single threat that could hope to wrench the position away from us... And in that relationship, our animals have grown with us. Cows are our symbiotic prey; Because of us, they are also one of the most successful animals on the planet. They live everywhere, breed freely, have no threats at all, most times exist in comfort for the entirety of their lives... They've pretty much won the game because of us. The only caveat is that after they've reached breeding age and had a chance to propagate (pretty much the goal of most herbivores,) they are predated by us as a ready food source. They get way more out of it than we do, looking at it as animals. It's only when you pull in human morality when this seems like a bum deal, because we're "enslaving" them and "murdering" them.

You should go be mad at industrial farms that shackle their cows up to feeding stations and take calves away from their berserk, screaming mothers. Or the ones that beat and mutilate sheep who are literally engineered by us to be docile as heck. Not the people who consume, because no matter what you do you're going to be supporting it too. Go try to get laws passed, go support local farms.

I can see a few ways to escape the cycle, though.

If we ate less meat, the farms could still produce enough fertilizer to support the increased demand for plant-based foods, and the industry would have less pressure put on it and thus more scrutiny for how they treat their animals. But, that would require a coordinated effort from the entire planet, not just a couple young men on their keyboards.

We could lobby for subsidies for the development of vertical farms, hydroponics, growing meat, and all that fancy-pants scifi ****. But again, that'd take time, and we'd still need to support ourselves off the backs of the animals we have been with since the dawn of agriculture.

OH, AND NONE OF THIS EVEN MENTIONS THE **** WE'RE DOING TO THE OCEAN

HOW ABOUT YOU GO READ UP ON HOW THE FISHING AND WASTE MANAGEMENT IS GOING

Also animals from rival packs will kill eachother over resources, human packs are tribes, bigger tribes are countries, countries kill eachother over resources. Comparing this issue to humans murdering eachother is valid, but you're doing it on the wrong level.
