For the past twenty years, Balian and her allies have worked tirelessly to turn the desolate red desert into a home. And a home it has surely become. THE SENATORIAL CELEBRATORY BALL, 19 B.A. 3rd of Peter's Glory, 19 B.A. A depiction of Balianites celebrating the conclusion of the first Senate election! This year has been extra special for Balian citizens as they are given the opportunities to express their voice in the future workings of the Grand Duchy that they all cherish so deeply. This week shall be marked in history as Balian’s first Senate Election. The busy week of preparation, voter registration, campaigning, and debating, will come to an exciting end as Balian citizens of both commoner and noble factions vote for the Senators they wish to see represent them! Seven Senators consisting of four commoners and three nobles, are to be elected in this year’s election! For the next eight years, they shall represent the Balian people in the Senate and direct our realm’s governance by passing legislation, holding ministers to account and electing one of their members to the Great Office of Minister, as detailed in The Righteous Mantle Edict (18 B.A.). The Closure of the Polls and the Beginning of the Celebratory Ball After 24 saint’s hours of Balianites rushing to the polls to vote for their chosen Senators, the election officers Cicero Lulianus Cato and Yelena Lorena Novellen shall count and finalize the tally of the votes! Once the votes have been counted, Cicero shall announce the results of the election from the dais of the throne room! All candidates of both commoner and noble factions shall be in attendance in order to eagerly hear the anticipated results! The elected Senators shall step into a line at the front of the throne room and each shall give a small speech to the Balian citizens that elected them. Following the announced results of the election, as well as the new Senator’s speeches, there shall be a ball to celebrate the proclamation of the new Senators of Balian! Tea of the Week The Northern Almaris Treaty Organization In last week’s issue, we highlighted His Excellency, the Legate of Balian, Constantine Malenos’ work in foreign affairs for Balian. And today we see the hard work of His Excellency paying off! After several meetings and discussions with the Kingdom of Haense and the Grand Kingdom of Urguan, a strong friendship has been paved! On the 9th of the Sun’s Smile, 12 BA, The Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska, the Grand Kingdom of Urguan, and the Grand Duchy of Balian have signed a new defensive alliance. Their alliance includes military cooperation, free trade, and shall last for a period of 20 years. To offer some Balianian history, the people of Balian were once Orenian. Before the civil war of the Orenian Empire in 1868, people of Balian were ruled by Emperors who chose to make the people of Haense and Urguan enemies. The nations have been enemies since before many of us were born. However, with the civil war, the people of Balian were able to separate themselves from a tyrannical Kingdom. With this split, the people of Balian are able to make their own decisions and have turned once enemies into friends. A feat that the Orenian Empire has failed to accomplish for years upon years. It would seem that they really just are not trying very hard to make amends with Haense and Urguan. Perhaps they do not care to do so. Nevertheless, after many sneakings to hang out with our friends in Haense and Urguan, we are happy to have our nations officially engaged in friendship. During a peaceful afternoon, a group of creatures entered Balian on horseback, searching for food. But Balianians were too smart for this and knew their intentions were more sinister! Issue #2 Upcoming Events Historical Ball The Syndesi Feriae, also known as the Connection Festival, will be having its LAST event during this year on Malin’s Welcome. We will be honoring our fallen brothers and sisters, along with cheering on those who lived. We are the Grand Duchy of Balian, yet we cannot forget our roots of which we come from. Even if we are not the Empire, we are a community full of love and respect for one another. As the Syndesi Feriae comes to an end, the Honey Club hopes that all the debutantes and bachelors have found what they have been looking for. For finding love, friendship, and acquaintances is what the season is for. Perhaps a marriage or two will come this season? Perhaps even some fighting between those of love! Shall everyone in attendance have a fabulous time as we near to the end, and Honey Club wishes nothing but the best. PSA: No members of the Cheeseland Kingdom are allowed to attend. Tea of the Week The Governess of Rudeness As you all know, this past week was the kickoff of the grand Syendesi Feriae of Balian. Balian’s first connections festival! To kick off Balian’s newest tradition, debutantes and bachelors from across Almaris lined up the hall of the palace, from the door to the throne room, to be presented. For two hours, one bachelor and one debutante were called before the throne to be featured in their wonderful outfits! Originally, it was planned for our governess to call the names of the debutants and bachelors to be presented, but she was over an hour late for the affair! Luckily for us, our very own Grand Duke saved the day and began calling off the names of the debutantes and bachelors to be presented. The Grand Duke said nice words to each of the two before they found their spot in lines on either side of the throne. The event was going very well for the first half, but then our governess made her arrival. An event that was fun and light hearted was quickly turned into an insult party! We watched as Lady Ember Munnel called a bachelor and a debutante, looked them over as if they were a nicely decorated sale item, and then proceeded to pass judgment onto their very outfits! As if being late to the affair was not enough, Lady Munnel stole the spotlight from the debutantes and bachelors by putting forth such a rude scene for all to gasp upon. What scene you may ask? Lady Munnel called up a bachelor who was patiently and excitedly waiting in line and then had the AUDACITY to insult his garments in front of the whole palace. This bachelor was clearly a peasant, unable to afford such nice and pristine garments as our RICH and SNOBBY governess enjoys! And she has the mind to comment on his clothes telling him to make “more effort towards a formal clothing set” and that “clothing like such is not welcome”. She went further to suggest that he would be thrown out if it were not for her kindness. Of course the entire room of people was enraged by her rudeness and this rage was made clear to her. Perhaps this can be a valuable lesson for those of such riches and status. It is NOT well looked upon when such is flaunted to those who are less fortunate. On a different note, we are happy to say that the very man who the governess insulted actually won the presentations! Take that Lady Munnel! Bee Fact of the Week Honey Production Lots of people know that bees are the reason why we are able to enjoy honey, but do you know how bees make that honey? First workers collect nectar from plants and carry it back to the hive. Then the house bees (younger bees who aren’t old enough to leave the hive yet) add chemicals to the nectar. Those chemicals slowly turn the nectar into honey over time! Turning the nectar into honey allows the bees to store their food for longer periods of time since it is not as quickly perishable as the nectar is by itself. What a great fact for this week! Some of the club members are of age to participate within Balian’s Syndesi Feriae such as our very own Queen Bees, Costantia, Ekaterina, and Yelena! As far as the war with the Cheeseland folks goes, it seems that things have blown over for the most part. The Honey Club was so kindly invited to an event in Haense by the king of Hoonseti Rooska, aka Hoonse, Aurik Bishop and his envoy Dominic Colborn. Unfortunately the Honey Club was unable to make an adequate appearance due to the business of the Syndesi Feriae! The Queen Bees plan on making plans with the members of the kingdom of Hoonse very soon! When asked about his goals for Balian as our acting Legate he remarked that “the vision shall always be to have Balian be the best version of itself and to show the rest of the realm such. If goals and dreams can be aligned between the philosophy of our nation and others, let us where it may take us.” Constantine is a true champion for Balian and her efforts to make friends with other nations. Before our beloved Sir Jarad Munnel stepped down as Legate of Balian, Constantine was a valuable council for our Grand Duke, and he continues to do so. Constantine is a rock of reason and careful judgment while also having a big heart for the people of Balian. In fact, Constantine is a valuable role model and mentor for various kiddos and adults throughout Balian, including the Queen Bees of the Honey Club! Not only is Constantine a model citizen within Balian, he acts as our Legate! This job entails the making of diplomacy with foreign nations and working to improve relations between them and Balian. We are all very excited to see what His Excellency Constantine Malenos will do for Balian with his fairly new role. He has already begun to establish a core of new and old diplomats to be ready to approach the nations of the realm for Balian, so we must say he is off to an amazing start! We asked Constantine some specific questions and his responses were very inspiring. In other news, this week, His Excellency and Patriarch of House Darkwood, Drako Darkwood made an official declaration from the house of Darkwood regarding the treasonous acts against their house by Vikton Darkwood! The missive officially disowned Viktor from the house altogether and now he carries the name of Bugworm! What a distasteful name! The Feast of Fools was another very fun event within Balian! There were several amazing dishes served with fine wine and ale! However, we were reluctant to attend as the feast was labeled, “The Feast of Fools”... if you went, are you a fool? What does that mean! Speaking of feasts, some Balianians attend a house call hosted by our own Legate, His Excellency, Constantine Malenos. There was a large turnout, so the event was moved to the tavern! On a more somber note, our very own Leopold Alstion, stepped down from being the Seneschal of Balian today. The Honey Club has gathered that it will begin on the upcoming Amber’s Cold for the debutantes and bachelors, but the introductions will begin on The Deep Cold. The Queen Bees do wonder how such will turn out as they will also be participating in the season! A few of the scheduled events include a campout, balls, a Feast of Fools, and more! The Honey Club hopes for the best and that there will be nothing but kindness in the Syndesi Feriae. Shall the ladies and gents find friendship and love. Many know what these very important positions entail, however, for those of you who do not, the following is an official description of the positions from the Charter of Atrus 9th of Peter’s Glory, 9. B.A. The position of Minister “wields full authority over the governance of the City and its internal affairs, overridden only by the Grand Duke and Seneschal. He directs the city council in their various individual capacities, and is overall responsible for the maintenance of the Capital. He may also appoint additional stewards. Appointed by open election of the Balian Citizens.” “The Elected Tribunes are people elected by the people. These people shall ensure and aid the City Council and Minister in their actions. They shall also ensure that The Minister does not commit crimes against the crown, as well as having to pass any changes the Minister wishes to do when it comes to laws.” For the past Saint’s day, registered citizens across Balian have been casting their votes, expressing their opinions on who should hold the running positions. Some bees buzzing around in Balian! Bee Fact of the Week Pollination Did you know that honey bees alone pollinate 80 percent of all flowering plants, including more than 130 types of fruits and vegetables!? How does a bee pollinate you might ask… Well, when a bee lands on a flower, little hairs all over its body attract pollen from the plant! Then they use their legs, equipped with stiffer hairs like combs, to groom the collected pollen from their body, into specialized pockets on their body! Then they carry the pollen back to their hive and use it as a food source for themselves and their family members! But how does this help the plants? I’m glad you asked. When bees collect the pollen for their sustenance, they typically gather from several different flowers in one trip. This means that they are carrying pollen from one flower to the other, thus pollinating all of the flowers they visit! It’s a beautiful process! If you were unaware of this, allow me to enlighten you on the matter. Our very own Queen Bee Constantia was minding her own business when suddenly! Out of nowhere! Criminals popped out from the bushes and attacked her with cheese projectiles! Their rampage continued onto our other Queen Bee, Ekaterina. And if the staining of Balian’s streets with sticky cheese and the dirtying of Balian’s sweet air with insults wasn’t enough, the Cheesland children continued their rampage to our very own bees. Innocent bees. Their homes DEFILED and VANDALIZED! In response to this, the Honey Club decided to be the bigger bees with a non-retaliation act and worked together to clean up the mess that the Cheeselanders had left. Later in the unraveling of conflict, the three Queen bees addressed the ongoing cheese issue within Balian’s court last Saint’s week and spoke to the Grand Duke directly. He said if someone hurts you, you hurt them back! The Queen bees took this into deep consideration. We will see how this conflict further unfolds! Grand Duke John Casimir This week’s Balianian of the week is (insert drum roll here)... Our very own Grand Duke of Balian, His Imperial Highness, John Casimir! For our first official issue of Balian we thought it would only be fitting to kick off with our beloved leader. bring peace, and peace has been had for the people within for many years now! Lastly, the Grand Duke wished to add that “Balian offers a unique culture for those looking to live in the south, and [that Balian] is pioneering a new nation of conscience.” In today’s present age it seems that morality and religion has taken a back seat to politics and material values. We thought it was In our interview with His Imperial Highness, John Casimir, we ask a few essential questions. Of course we began with the most important question of all… his favorite color. It’s purple! How regal! When asked about his favorite thing about Balian, His Imperial Highness admitted that he adored the city’s intricately and beautifully designed architecture. It is a nice change for him from what he was used to back before the civil war. One thing His Imperial Highness wanted people to know about Balian is that “we are accepting of most people as long as they respect our faith and laws”. We thought this was a very fair statement. Anyone would want those living in their community to share their core values! As the Grand Duke of Balian, His Imperial Highness admitted that he had big dreams for Balian. He stated, “I dream that Balian will have expanded and maintained the peace of the south. It started off with the opening of the elections for the seats of Minister and for three new Tribunes of Balian. As the election rolled through the week, alongside we had several exciting events! Firstly we had a Medical Lesson hosted by Rosina Py’lrie, first known as one Rosina de Adamo. All of the attendees received a free med kit along with some very useful medical training! On a more somber note, our beloved forigen affairs member, His Excellency, Sir Jarad Munnel stepped down after thirty two long years of serving in offices. In his resignation letter, Sir Munnel says. “I do not plan to leave Balian, I just wish to rest, and I wish the best of luck to my fellow members of the chamber.” We are relieved that we get to keep Sir Munnel with us in Got tea? Yelena, one of the Queen Bees, after having gathered a group of bees to clean the egged bee hives, would pull her friend Tia to her side with a smile. "Look Tia! They have tried to hurt us, but instead have brought us even closer as we work together to clean up the mess they have made. Now our bees will be further united in helping to save the bees from people like this who would harm them!" With a shake of her head, Yelena would brush off her hands on a cleaning rag as she finished scrubbing a final piece of egg. She'd reach for her trusty yellow crayon to sign the document of non-retaliation and would further announce the decree to all those within the Honey Club!

Is your home so boring that you must ruin the homes of PRECIOUS and INNOCENT creatures that make Alarmaris honey, who make our flowers smell amazing, and who help advance medical technologies? You have not offended the children of the Honey Club, you have offended and HURT innocent creatures. To those of Cheeseland, the Honey Club has been rather kind in regards to you all. We have not done anything malicious, even though you threw cheese at one of the Queen Bees. We do not march on your land and destroy it. We were taught to be mature and kind. We see that you all, especially Mariana Antoinette d’Azor, must have nothing to do with your time if you are willing to travel to the south and destroy bee-hives and steal. How sad. If you wanted our honey so desperately you could have just asked for some. Instead you prove yourselves to be thieves and criminals with no self control. The Honey Club has never broken any rules in other nations or settlements, yet it seems like these… Cheeseland people go around and trash whatever they see fit. These children just run around and destroy things while the Honey Club makes diplomatic missions to other places to spread their kindness and mission of saving the bees. Hopefully GOD will set this Cheeseland kingdom right. The Honey Club extends itself to the children of Cheeseland to offer lessons that their parents should have given them in the first place. Lessons of maturity, kindness, and perhaps of proper spelling. We of the Honey Club feel for them if they are so insecure to march miles south to produce malice onto innocent bees. Our response? It has been officially decreed that no Honey Club member shall take action of malice or destruction against the Cheeseland people. Their actions of childish ruin only harm themselves and instead bring our community closer together as we work to put back together what they have tried to ruin. So people of Cheeseland, do your worst and further prove to all of Alarmaris your immaturity. You will not bring us down to your pathetic level. Due to your recent acts of war against us, we shall be furthermore giving you and your members the silent treatment unless you formally apologize to Constantia Irene Novellen and Ekaterina Maria Ruthern for your childish immaturity and insults (please note this as the proper spelling for "insults"), as well as to the bees within Balian whose homes you defiled. It should be noted that any Honey Club member who goes against this official decree will be swiftly removed from the likings of the Honey Club. Bee the bigger bees.
