The casual citizenry often don colorful garbs made from silks and if they can afford it shiny jewelry aswell. Various events and happenings often line the streets of Sabattus, from the piety of holy mass to the exhilaration of chariot races; all ordained and influenced by the clergy. The Atrussian folk are generally conservative in their garb, and when time calls for martial they don beautiful scale armor and imagery of the faith. Miliary Tl;dr of post: The Atrussian Military, also known as the Holy Cataphracts have sworn an oath to defend all worshippers of the canonist faith within the lands of Atrus. Currently residing within the city of Sabattus (City name within Atrus), their roles/jobs revolve around the area in which they call home. Not only are they trained to attack, but traditions such as chariot racing often lead the Holy Cataphracts to be at the heart of cultural events within the city. Locals Tl;dr of post: The Atrussian folk are comprised of many ethnicities, all united by faith. From the Farfolk Abdallah Monarchy to the predominantly heartlander clergy, the Atrussians form up of many people. The only requisite for citizenship is baptism via Canonism. Settlement Government Structure Explanation: The Papal Duchy of Atrus Tl;dr of post: The Papal Duchy of Atrus is ultimately ruled by the High Pontiff. Beneath him is the Monarchy of the Abdallah family. The Monarch(Basileus/Basilissa) then chooses those who sit on his Holy Council, that being 8 members from the Atrussian folk whom he/she knows will provide activity and serious RP for the nation. Settlement Builds and Infrastructure (photos required): How does this settlement offer a unique niche not already found in an existing polity on the server? How does your settlement tie to the greater lore and narrative set by the community on LotC?: The Papal Duchy of Atrus provides a unique niche to LotC RP via the Church and Atrussian culture. Here, the nation will have the chance to provide a narrative unique to our group, that being religious Canonist RP outside of the occasional marriage and sermon. The settlement will provide a base for the clergy to expand outwards in RP and develop not only their characters’ narrative, but that of Almaris. From religious law rp, holy knight rp, pilgrim rp, chariot racing rp as well as every other normal rp narrative(Economy rp, Military rp, Citizenry rp) with a religious twist to them as well as many more, Atrus will provide an enjoyable narrative which is ultimately the goal of a settlement. Alongside the clergy, the Atrussian people have a unique culture to the server I have not seen utilized yet, being based loosely on IRL Byzantines; with it’s own rp twists and spins. Within this culture the settlement will be able to provide a variety of RP scenarios I don't see happening elsewhere on the server (Chariot racing rp, rooftop rp, cataphract rp etc etc) Have you ever run a settlement on LoTC before and what experience do you have with leadership within roleplay communities among the current groups of players? ✠ THE PAPAL DUCHY OF ATRUS ✠ “The Dream that is Atrus” Contents: ✠ Introduction ✠ Government ✠ Culture ✠ Military ✠ City ✠ Discord INTRODUCTION Formed by Nefertari Abdallah in 1833 with the blessing of High Pontiff Tylos I, the Papal Duchy of Atrus serves as the bastion and protection of the Canonist faith. A home for it's peoples and the various folk who take up the faith. Originating in the Southern Kharasi desert, these canonist nomads lay the Duchy brick by brick until the Holy City of Sabattus was conjured from their minds. In time, many a pilgrim and priest, knight and criminal seeking atonement ventured to the city and joined it’s ranks. With them, they brought virtue, chivalry, piety and the will of God. Thus, the dream that is the Duchy of Atrus was born. GOVERNMENT THEOCRATIC MONARCHY ✠ High Pontiff The head of the Canonist religion and the voice of God, the High Pontiff has the ultimate say in Atrus. Whilst not having any influence in decisionmaking in the state and council; and being expected to allow the state to be self-sufficient and himself be uninvolved; the High Pontiff can override any decision made by the council if it is within Canonist Law. ✠ Holy Basileus/Basilissa: The Monarch of the Duchy of Atrus, this position is passed down to the first born child of the Abdallah line. They are sworn to protect the people of Atrus, The Holy Palatinate of Atrus and uphold the Atrussian laws. Their word is absolute when it comes to state matters, and they spearhead the direction of the Duchy. ✠ Sostakratis The right hand man of the monarch, the Sostakratis manages and advises the Atrussian Government to the best of their ability. ✠ Stratos Patron: The Patron leader of the Holy Cataphracts, of whom are sworn to protect the Holy Basileus and his family, aswell as the citizens of Atrus. They are to ensure the training of the Holy Cataphracts and the defense of not only the Duchy’s borders, but the Holy Palatinate aswell. ✠ Thriskeia Patron: The Religious leader of Atrus, this position oversees the Holy Palatinate and religious affairs within the Papal Duchy of Atrus. The Thriskeia is appointed by the High Pontiff to maintain the strength of the church within the State. They will hold religious events to ensure the faith is kept widespread, and that the Atrussian folk are pious and able to do their duty to God. ✠ Polistikos Patron: The cultural lead of Atrus, this patron is in charge of working with the Thriskeia in order to uphold and improve the culture of the Holy Duchy. They will arrange events, send out tablets on news and enact various other duties the Holy Basileus bestows upon them. ✠ Katastasi Patron: The Secretary of State, this Patron serves to uphold the documents of the Monarchy, aswell as to reach out and care for diplomatic affairs. They are in charge of training and equipping ambassadors and ensure Atrussian relations are fair, moral and religious. ✠ Paratritis Patron: The eyes and ears of the Basileus, this Patron serves to gather information and advise the Basileus to act upon such. [The Paratritis will make player events for the whole nation, ensuring there is always a narrative in Atrus.] ✠ Dimarchus Patron: The head of the city, this Patron oversees the Papal Duchy’s current holding; wherever that may be at the time. They train and equip Stewards, host community events and ensure that the city is both beautiful and defendable; holy in every aspect. CULTURE Forged by a dream, the Atrussian folk live a colorful and regal life to represent such. The heated climate and their close proximity to the trade roads allowing them a stable income of silk, jewelry and other fashionable items to decorate their style. With a strong canonist faith, the pious Atrussians revere the faith in every aspect possible, living their life how GOD intended. Even if the scriptures suggest diligence, the heated mesa offers many luxuries; causing the Atrussians to live a life baked in paradise. MILITARY The Atrussian folk are used to taking up the blade. Many a citizen wear scalemail and other protection in their daily attire, and even more have taken up arms in a Military Order of some kind that has come to reside in Atrus. Whether it be the Holy Cataphracts, of whom are sworn to protect the monarchy; or the Supreme Order of Exalted Owyn, of whom fight for the Clergy, the Atrussian people are a fighting folk; prepared to take up the cross and blade for GOD and country. CITY The holy city of Sabattus is home to the Atrussian folk. Housing many peoples, and with great monuments dedicated to GOD; this city is a truly beautiful paradise to behold. Centred near the silk roads on the way to the Trade Kingdom of Sutica, it is luxurious and blessed. The city is the home of many a religious folk, ranging from the holy knight to the holy father. As such, it is kept cleanly and pure as the white walls that surround it. Many shrines dot around the landscape, dedicated solely to the Saints and the Lord. Half of the city is independently owned by the clergy, and the Monarchy has sworn to not interfere in church business on these palatinates. Armiger Rings III.Specializations INTRODUCTION: Whilst the freedom of choice in how to train an squire often bears fruit the ease of many a Knight’s mind, it seldom conjures an enjoyable and educational experience for said squire. Thus, Imperator-Equester Edwin de Sarkozy with the blessing of Apostolic General Armand de Rennes calls forth the streamlining and outlining of how exactly to train a Squire, and in what ways they shall be educated. Along with this, new specializations will also be added within the Order of which a Knight can choose to train themself in. This document will detail the specifics of both these changes made in the year 1831. ARMIGER RINGS: For years a Squire’s education was simply up to the Knight of whom they squired under. Whilst most Squires received ample training and experience, occasionally a Squire would rise to Knighthood without ever being taught to swing a sword. This process will prohibit such. To reach Knightood, an Armiger of the Supreme Order of Exalted Owyn must first receive three rings. Each of these rings will be received after the Knight has trained the Armiger in the certain field. For example, after a Knight has trained his Armiger in horsemanship, he is able to bestow the Horseman ring onto his Armiger. The following rings are available: St. Peter of Gaekrin’s ring (Swordsmanship training) St. Daniel of Al’Khazar’s ring (Education of the Holy Scrolls) St. Edmond of Lachsin’s ring (Horsemanship) St. Evaristus of Paridisus’ ring (Hunting and Butcher-training) St. Thomas of Ager’s ring (Smithing training) Upon receiving 3 / 5 of these rings, the Armiger can advance to their Knightly Quest; thereafter their treatise (of which both are decided by the Knight that trains them) and finally their Knighthood. Every Armiger is expected to develop their own arms and heraldry before their knighthood, for they will wear these colors on their armor once they do. They are to approach the Order’s vexillographer and request a design be made. ✠ An example of three arms that are currently in use. ✠ However, Knighthood is not where an Equester’s education ends. They can further extend their knowledge into specializations. SPECIALIZATIONS Knighthood can be an experience burdened by boredom and loneliness. One can often find themselves without a goal or certain path to progress. Because of such, specializations have been organized to give the Knights individual purpose and continue their education. They are as follows: Hospitaller: Sworn to protect the injured and healer, these Knights have taken up the call to be educated in all things medical. They are expected to be the medics on the field, retrieving the injured and tending to their wounds; aswell as holding regular trainings where they train other Armigers and Knights in becoming Hospitallers themselves. Along with this responsibility, the Hospitallers swear a sacred vow upon completing their training: “I, ______ , swear this: As long as my legs work, I will make way to aid any and all clinics. As long as my arms can move, my blade will swing in defense of the leper, injured and physician. As long as I draw breath, I will be a Hospitaller true and through. May God help me.” Lectorem: Dedicated to knowledge, these Knights have chosen to continue their education in the path of war-research. Many an alchemist and engineer take up this path, for they are to test and develop new ways of military defense aswell as offence for the Supreme Order. Siege-weapons, deadly tonics and intuitive manners of defence are expected to come from the Lectorem Specialization. A sub-specialization of the Lectorum is the Philosophus. They will regularly hold debates, make sure the treatises are properly documented and record history and information to the best of their abilities. Vexillographer: A much rarer position than the other ranks, the Vexillographer is a specialization not many take up. They are to design and pen forth the Heraldry of new knights; ensuring they are displayed properly on the uniform and uphold Heraldic laws. Speculator: Usually one of the Knight-Captains or Officer ranks, the Speculator is in charge of keeping the Order’s knights busy. He will venture out into the world and find spooks, bandits and other foes for the Order to fend off; aswell as conjuring activities at the Order’s headquarters in cooperation with the other specializations; such as jousts, feasts, debates, siege machine tests etc etc. ✠✠✠ This change will not be in effect for any Armiger recruited before the year 1832

✠ DEFENSE OF THE ABBEY ✠ OF ST. ROBERT An artist’s depiction of Holy Sir Vukosav ’the Black’ and his Noble Steed. The thundering neared. Crash, crash, crash sounded from outside the Abbey as the beast’s footsteps sent forth a shockwave of fear across all close by. The nuns and priests ushered into a square, and the Knights to arms: The battle would start shortly. Holy Sir Vukosav ‘the Black’ had been ordered to find the origin of the sound, the Knight rode forth and encountered a huge, stinking beast. Odor twice as nauseating as the average Olog, and with size to rival such, the Troll lumbered about the grounds outside the Abbey. Vukosav knew what he had to do, and with the rearing of his steed and swing of his blade he began his attempt to draw the beast away from the innocent nuns and priests. In this endeavor he had help, since Holy Dame Helena ‘The Psalm’ and Holy Sir Edwin ‘The Flower Knight’ charged out from the abbey and joined the conflict. Unfortunately for Vukosav, his attempts at distraction bore too many fruits; as a large boulder hurled from the troll crushed his steed and hurled him offside. Upon seeing her compatriot in danger, Helena made her way to slash at the beast’s achilles whilst Edwin hoped to aid Vukosav to his feet. The Knights charged, were beaten back, and charged again time and time again until finally the beast was pushed over by a flaming cart the Dame Helena had sent forth in it’s direction, hoping to halt it’s advance on the Abbey. The destruction the Troll had left across the Abbey was significant. Felled pillars, torn walls; even the ground set aflame. With a combined effort of the three knights, this came to a righteous end. Holy Dame Helena bound the beast’s legs whilst Holy Sir Vukosav sent a crossbow bolt to the troll’s skull which prompted it to turn it’s head. With a final stab, Holy Sir Edwin drove his blade into it’s eyesocket, causing the beast to fall limp. The nuns and priests escaped unharmed, the Abbey was saved; though the same could not be said for the Knights and their injuries. Despite such, GOD had guided them this day, and many prayers of gratitude were sent to St. Edmond of Lachsin that night. (written at 4 am dont bully me)
