  1. Josefina Barclay squints at the missive for a moment before cursing and reaching over for a pair of reading glasses. "Oh... he gets the fishing from me." She chuckled for a moment before tucking the parchment into a rather full box.

  4. Irena Kortrevich leaned over the letter, staring at it for a moment as the words on the page washed in and out of her vision. She stumbled out of the room, a jar of jam heavy in her pocket. Not grape, not raspberry, lemon jam. With shallow, wheezing breaths, she turned to stare at the door to what had been her parents' bedroom, and her eyes flickered between it and the room she had just fled. Why did everyone leave?
  5. Josefina Barclay stared down at her bruised grandson with a bewildered look on her face. "What happened to vy? Did vy fall off something?" @Gandhi Sister Joan, the aforementioned assaulted Monastic, signs the Lorraine and resolves not to leave Balian's walls anytime soon.

  7. Irena Stefaniya Kortrevich stood within her family's manor, out in the hall beside her parents' room. She could hear her brothers and sisters moving within the house, but she dared not make a sound. If she spoke, if she saw, it would all be real. She was not ready. She hadn't learned enough, she hadn't done enough, she hadn't lived enough. What was she supposed to do now? Her mother was supposed to be here, she wasn't supposed to leave like this. What was she supposed to do? Josefina Barclay pressed a hand to her mouth, muffling a sob. Her niece... her dear Matviy's daughter... gone. Gone like they all were. One by one, falling into the grave too soon.

  13. Within the Barclay Manor in Valdev, Josefina sits beside a flame. Once, she had loved the child named Virgil. Once, she had sought to make him laugh and smile, to break through the icy blankness that inhabited his soul. As she sat, watching the page THE TURNCOAT had occupied in her family ledger burn, the once-aunt shed no tears. After all, she could never forgive the crime of harming the innocent, nor the crime of murdering a member of her family.
  14. Josefina Barclay carefully folds the missive and stows it inside a box, where all the rest of import lie, and offers Fabian a proud smile. @critter
