Pern Reads Your Fortune

((I'm bored and the server isn't letting me on, so I might as well post here.))

The tavern in New Malinor bustles with activity. The chime of tableware and the clink of fine silver mugs fills the smoky room. The tavern maids carry bowls of fresh fruit and steins full of elven ale to each table. A surprisingly merry scene for the normally quiet and dignified town.

A lone wood elf sits in the corner. Strangely enough, she has not one, but two steins sitting before her. She sits with her legs crossed, hands folded crisply behind her back. Her orange eyes remain half-closed from boredom. It seems as if she's been waiting for quite a long time now...

She looks up as you approach.

"Ah, there you are. I went ahead and ordered a drink for you," she says, giving you a playful sort of smile. She gestures for you to sit down across from her. "I hope you like the house ale."

She yawns a little. "I suppose you're here for the reading?"

Reading? What reading?

"Everyone has questions about the future. I am sure you have questions as well. If you like, I could provide a few answers."

How?

"Let's ask the cards, why don't we?"

It seems Pern here is willing to read your future in her cards. Will you sit down for a reading?

"You may ask me one question and I will perform a reading for you. Sit, sit. The future waits for no one, my friend."

Toby shrugs, standing on the other side of the table as Lancel got a seat first "So, one question, just anything at all?"

Vane steps up to pull a chair from one of the tables, swatting at the surface before settling his bottom on it. He looks to the woman with an almost condescending look, elbows brought to the table, and his chin support by his hands. His sapphire eye looks to the card, then back to the woman. He leans back on the chair, a complaint resonating off its wooden legs. He tilts his head impatiently, letting out a light groan from the men in line.

Art Camoryn slides into a seat, drumming his fingers restlessly on the table, looking up and about as if expecting an ambush, as he waits his turn.

When it comes:

"Malin preserve."

He whispers to himself, before he looks up at the fortune teller.

"My greatest mistake. If it has yet to be made. How will it happen, what will it be?"

"How will I die?" Lancel asks, as he is the first one in.

Pern laughs a little. "That question is very specific. I am afraid my cards won't satisfy you. But very well, let's ask them how you die."

Pern lays out six randomly chosen cards in the shape of a cross on the table. One by one, she begins to flip them over. She lets out a little chuckle as she flips the first card. "Oho! Perhaps they will tell me more about this than I thought. This first card tells me about, hm...A flawed plan. You plan to create strife, perhaps through violence, but this plan will have imperfections. That is the basis of the situation."

She flips the second card. "This card will tell me what challenges you face. It speaks to me of growth...progress...ambition. Is that the goal of this flawed plan? Now that is interesting..."

She flips the third card. "This card, my friend, is about you. It tells me your feelings. And it tells me that you are naive. You charge into things too fast. You go forth with your plan, perhaps, before you truly think it out. And that is your downfall."

"This fourth card tells me your past. It tells me that your ambition has lead you into conflict. And that it will continue to harm you."

"The fifth card - it is your current thoughts. You are looking for success. Tread carefully, my friend."

"The sixth card tells your state of mind. It tells me that you have forgotten yourself, forgotten who you are. And this will lead to your ruin."

Pern gathers up the cards and gives him a knowing smile.

"Perhaps that helps? The cards seem rather clear. Beware of rushing into foolhardy plans. It will be the end of you."

Pern looks up at the gathering crowd and sighs. "It look like I'm popular," she says with a hint of a smile. "Please, no conflicts in the line, my friends. We are all here to look to the future, not the imperfections of the past."

She waves her first customer away and address the second one. "Next. And yes, of course. Ask me whatever you like."

Scratches his beard as he listens to what she said, wanting to ask more but knows he can't.  He nods and gets up to leave for the next person to enter.

Seeing a big crowd, Fiona couldn't resist but peeking in, skipping around all the people, she looked fascinatingly and admiringly at the woman with the card. She stood by the side shyly, fiddling with her dress.
