Ooc: What Does A Dwarvish Accent Sound Like?

I've been on the server for about a year as a dwarf, but have run into several different forms of speach from fellow dwarves:

Sometimes i'ts like "Ello, gud marn' t'ye all"

...And othertimes it's like "Well 'ten, oill be needin s'm food'"

.......And still othertimes its like "Bez' nerd'en Gaut'v, Barzn'al Coov'rdelf!"

I am really confuzed; Is the accent of a dwarf supposed to vary by race? Or do we all just sound the same? Because i'm just seeing no consistancy either way.

If someone could straighten this out, I'd be very greatfull!

It's as Dave said. Some players choose to have really thick accents, others tone them down a bit so that people can understand them a little more. I'd say there's three main accents people tend to go off of, which are Scottish, Irish and northern English. Which you choose is entirely up to your own preference as accents develop differently from player to player.

If you're looking for an RP explanation for this, think along the lines of where your character was born or what clan he belongs to. Just to give one example, it tends to be that newer dwarves type fairly closely to normal English while older dwarves add more of an accent. This could be explained RPly as older dwarves having thicker accents as they would have grown up in a time in which the clans were divided and lived apart from one another.

If something looks funny when I type it, I just sound it out in my head how a dwarf would say it. Just a general rule of thumb for me. ;)

Well it depends. Some dwarves have accents, others speak proper. My char is a Mage and an alchemist, and thus has a very thin accent having to speak proper all his life. Others, like the doomforge I play have a very thick accent. Usually, those who are involved in studying and skills that require intelligence tend to speak properly. Others have thick Irish, Scottish, northern English and sometimes even a Scandinavian accent. It really depends.
