Cracker 4570 Popular Post Share Posted December 2, 2013 1379 - 1447 The scratching of quill on wilted parchment echoed throughout the deep crevices in the Krelmstad. Aside from rats running in the rafts or the hushed whispers of scattered servant-boys, it was an empty shell of its former glory, dying of neglect. In it, a lord lounged upon his throne, eyes dull and weak with age. His desk was scattered with papers but only two were of concern; one of his penmanship to summon his firstborn Fyodor, and one writ of his lastborn's hand, a declaration of pilgrimage. With each stroke of the quill in hand, the lord's hand weakened and waned, until all that could be heard from his chambers were deep, sordid breaths which glistened in the Kraltan cold. A twinge of pain shot through his chest; from health or grief, he did not know, but he continued to scrawl and sketch, musing over his children and kinsfolk. Fyodor's disillusionment, Ostromir's tyranny and cruelty, Tuvya's lack of ambition, and young Franjo, who was grossly unprepared for his seat of power. How could a man who had clawed his way from baron to Divine fail in rearing children, crafting a legacy, a task which mere beasts could perform without qualm? Will his House die as so many others with its leader gone? He gripped his temple as another ripple of pain shot through his chest, his breathing stifled. His eyes widened as death thrust itself upon the Lord of Crows; his first reaction was unbridled rage and fear. He refused it, shunned it, cursed it in the darkest recess of his mind. He could not die when Oren was still rocking in its cradle, reborn from the ash of the Exodus. There was so much! Scripture, soldiers, settlements, trade, so much which needed to be done whilst warding off a half-elf ignoble invasion on his soils. In his last breaths, the last rush of blood shooting through his veins, he could only shed a tear. For whether viewed as a divine whom came to save humanity from the cusp of chaos, or a vile tyrant who's thirst for power knew no bounds, there was only one thing universal about Siegmund Carrion; he was a man, a man of hopes, dreams, failures, inhibitions, and ambitions. His eyes flashed at the massacre of his Carrion-kin, to his courtship with Lorin, to the raising of Kralta, the adventures with strelesy and the Teutonic Wars, the Adunian Conquests, his children, his reign, his legacy, and it all consummated in a single tear which dribbled down his cheek with the utmost caution. Falling over from his seat, alone, he perished as the countless men before, no better or worse, another succumb to the curse of mortality. __________________________________________________________ The will of Siegmund Carrion was one of the few papers left on the desk, and it read as followed. "Heinrik van Roy is now dubbed Heinrik van Roy I of House Carrion, for his mother's matrilinear marriage to Baron Roy Royce before him. He shall assume title, King of Oren, and its lesser titles. Godferik I of House Carrion is deposed for his relative inactivity and slothful nature. The Imperium of Oren is destroyed upon my death, as it's elective system naturally collapsed upon the consolidation of Ruska, Salvus, and Renatus. There shall be no Emperor after me; to rule as Emperor is a lofty title befit only for a selected divine. No matter the size and territory of Oren, we must usher in an Age of Kings, in order to never befoul ourselves in another potential Exodus and cults of personality which falter upon succession. Oren has only seen successful succession in a past Age of Kings of Aegis-past. I urge the King of Herendul and the new King of Oren to convene and forge a coalition for the benefit of man. My last wish would have been to see Herendul and Oren unified under one state of one king, but alas my power turns to ash with death. To my only son who remains on Anthosian soil, Tuvya, my golden bastard, I would urge you not to falter where your brothers failed. You are the last vestige of my ilk, and in your destiny there can only be Oren or hollow pursuits of pleasure. No matter how many times you wish to escape, whether in mercenary work or in those dreaded backwaters, you will waste away, an empty soul, if your talents are not to use. I bestow you the Boyar Cap of Crows of our predecessors past. I leave my wealth to the Kingdom of Oren, my blessing to the strelesy whom have been true to the Carrion Vochna. With my death, I fear its collapse; you among other patriots to a better Oren can only insure its survival and growth." _____________________________________________________________ OOC I told myself I wouldn't make a leaving post last night, but at the end of the day I think the closure would do me some good in regards in breaking away this big playground. It wasn't the big fiasco with the warclaim, though that certainly didn't help, but rather I felt like I need to kill off my char and depart from LotC because of the vast time-sink and commitment I felt I would need to put in to accomplish what I wanted. To ideally fix Oren and on some level, the server, I took to a hefty IC ritual of constant noble and land reform, but at the end of the day the time vs reward wasn't there. With exams coming up, I feel that LotC is only going to be an outlet for an escapism, an excuse to play whenever I've got some free time when I could be far more productive and efficient. I guess it's time for me to grow up and take a hiatus. Real life comes first and to be honest, I could barely find time to log in IC with trying to keep track of forums, google docs, skype, and teamspeak. Hopefully Knox213 can continue what we are trying to do and I hope the rest of Oren can support him in his endeavors. I've made some great friends and had some wonderful experiences on this hive of scum and villainy, and I'll try to give thanks and advice to the various factions I've interacted with. Nation Leaders: Remember to sort and talk things out OOCly with other nations before pursuing policies. This is a game, not a LARP; we can bend our RP a tad if it makes the other side a lot happier and results in server progression. Our goal as nations should be establishing as much fun as possible between nations, not retribution for the past and ambitions for the future. The only policy Oren sought was internal reform after the chaos of exodus, and in return we were fed rebellion, war, war, and more rebellion. It's hectic and hell. I wish Knox + the Oren crew best of luck with it, but I don't need that time commitment in my life at the moment. Staff: Give the server some direction instead of being content with what we have now, or better yet just make Ever an admin/Lead Dev that's probably an easier solution for all of us. He may seem dynamic, but that's what exactly what an admin needs in order to have the server grow and flourish. Don't be content that the server is up and running; be aggressively focused on re-establishing LotC as the number 1 MC RP server. Rebels: If you are still going to pursue the rebellion, make sure you come up with a plan of post conquest and annexation, and the actual rule of a Tarusian Oren. To a lot of us, this is not a rebellion, it is an invasion, and there's a great chance that the great minds behind our current state (Hobo, chumpchump, Senda, Knox, firespirit, Aeto, etc.) will just leave or rather continue to fight post-WC's, resulting in a fractured, unstable, weaker Oren. Server doesn't need that IMO, but I guess you have full right to do that within current server rules, so whatever. Rutherns: You guys are doing a great job in keeping a legacy alive by making your own spin-off instead of driving the Flay name down to the ground. Keep it up, I'm pretty proud of how you guys revitalized, and I'm sure coaster appreciates what you are doing instead of continually trying to make a Flay revival. Abresi Guard / Imperial Army: There is so much potential here. A ridiculous amount where we can combine a lot of the best things of various military orders in LotC's history without their flaws. You guys have that potential in the palm of your hands; try your best to make it happen. Adunians: Thanks for putting some trust in me after what happened in Kaedrin. I hope it paid off on some level, and I hope you make it through any crises on top. Orcs: Orcish RP really made the server for me. While I came in during a Dark Age, I have a lot of respect for the Orcs that keep the tradition alive. It's a great culture to properly RP and best wishes to you torch-bearers to keep it going. Salvians: Even though me and chump made the Slavus Shields, I have utmost respect for you guys after being in your chat and really seeing the **** you guys went through. Most factions on LotC couldn't handle the pressure, attacks, and humiliations that you guys went through and thrive, so wear it like a badge of honor. Carrions + Strelts: I've known some of you guys for 3-4+ years and some of you guys for under a month. All of you are a special something though. I really, really appreciate what you guys have done for me and the community and hope to see you prosper even without me around to stop any disputes or in-fights. Just because one guy isn't around anymore doesn't mean that we have to let our RP die. Only word of recommendation is to steer clear of the path of the Rosemonts which is a direction that we sometimes take; calling people edgy and autists publicly just makes tensions flare and gives us a bad name. We can do better and we have done better. Nonetheless, we've made something really special together and I'd hate to see it flounder and fall. Keep up the good fight. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUhRKVIjJtw Mo' Power Mo' Problems, Peace for now LotC
