The Decterum

 

 

"By Faith and Conquest"

The Order of The Decterum was formed when the leaders of both House Ruthern and House Dunham sought to unify their military forces. Later engulfing the humble and modest Griffon Order, The Decterum was formed. Ready to bring back what force the Human lands had lost after the Exodus, the order vowed to protect the Oren government and the citizens within the mighty Kingdom. Currently conducting most of Oren's military operations, the goal of The Decterum is to be

viewed by the Creator himself as a force not to be reckoned with.

 

Ruled by the Military House of Ruthern, The Decterum is controlled by Lord Ailerd, the Decterum Marshal, known as the "Sword of the King". All House Ruthern members are raised within The Decterum, where they rise quickly in rank and work along side the Knights and

other warriors that make up The Order.

 

Directly under The State,The Decterum holds operations within Cavan, Abresi, and the Dreadlands. Members of The Decterum can be seen patrolling the lands of Oren, making sure the Nation is safe and secure from both foreign and domesticated threats. 

Religion

 

The Order of the Decterum are defenders of the True Faith of the humans. They seek purity in their actions and wreak retribution upon heresy and abominations in their pursuit of a more holy Oren. The Decterum as of late has assimilated into a mix sect of Ruskan Orthodox and Lucienism. All Orders members are required to attendweekly mass performed by the Sacred.

 

Notable punishments for heresy and abominations include being captured and crucified, to show all the price for breaking the Creator’s laws within Oren.

 

Tenets

 

1. Members of The Decterum believe wholeheartedly in the Creator. Lack of faith within an Order member will result in the punishment of death, by crucification.

 

2. Members of The Decterum show complete and utter loyalty to the King of Oren, the High Ecclesiarch, and the Decterum Marshals. Failure to do so will result in immediate execution.

 

3. Members of The Decterum show loyalty to his fellow members. They are responsible for assisting their brothers should they need help.

 

4.Members of The Decterum may not hold any other allegiances. Once a Convert takes the “Oath of The Decterum”, they are loyal to the Order for life, unless dishonorable discharged from The Decterum.

 

5. An Order Member may never take the life of another Order member.

Doing so will result in immediate execution.

 

6. An Order Member may never steal from the Order, or any of it’s members.

Doing so will result in banishment from the Order.

 

7. An Order Member may never act in a disrespectful manner while representing The Decterum, Oren, or the Church. If this manner is shown, a flogging takes place within The Decterum’s keep where any other member of the Order may watch.

 

 

Ranks

 

Senior Command

 

The Decterum Marshal

The highest authority, this is the soul leader within the military Order. A Decterum Marshal demands the utmost respect from those below them, and leads The Decterum with an iron fist. The Decterum Marshal has very close ties with the King, and keeps himself

up to date with war situations, and politics.

 

High Command

 

Knight-Vindicator

Veteran sub-leaders of the Order that serve it through management, making sure the Order is a well-oiled machine and everybody is doing their jobs.

Knight-Justicar
The Justicar is responsible for discipline and security within the order. He is responsible for overseeing the security of the Marshals, the Keep, and the well being of the Order.

 

 

Knight-Legatus

 

The Knight-Legatus is someone who has shown nothing but loyalty and commitment to the order, and has been very active within The Order Of TheDecterum for many years. These are people who have proven themselves in combat, and who have proven themselves to be very trustworthy and deserving of a position of power. The Knight-Legatus is responsible for serving as a role-model for those still with an Enlisted rank.

 

 

Knight-Brother

A Torum that has proved themselves to be able and show ability to lead are Knighted. They serve the Order’s various purposes, defend the entirety of the Kingdom,

and serve the Church in whatever is necessary.

Enlisted

Torum
The last Enlisted rank, the Torum begins to rise in the ranks, and will soon become a Knight-Brother. During this time a Knight will choose a Torum to act similar to Squire. Torums perform the same duties that is expected by any member of The Decterum, and is also expected to do the duties told from the Knight who hand-picked him


Ensign
These ranks are reliable soldiers of the order. They have proven they are able to be trusted on a certain level and are given specific duties to carry out throughout their day, though they are also trained to be flexible, in order to accommodate the defensive needs of Abresi,

the service under the Church, and Order duties.

Convert
The Convert is the lowest rank in the order. They are the focus of the Order, with constant training and learning upon these members. They are trained in weapons, including the sword, shield, longbow, crossbow, and arbalest. They undergo many Religious and Historical assessments, and are constantly drilled both physically and mentally to one day become the best Knight they are able to.

Specialized Ranks

 

Sacerd (Sahkehrd)-

The Sacerd’s role inside the order is to act as both a scribe and personal priest within the Order. Reciting prayers before battles, and holding private religious ceremonies once an Elven week is part of the Sacerd’s duty. Being both a Scribe/Historian, the Sacerd attends large meetings that The Decterum go to, and also teaches new members of the Order the fundamentals of

reading and writing, along with history lessons. 

Master at Arms

The all around Smith and weapon designer in the Decterum, his primary responsibilities are to forge armour and weapons with iron provided by The Decterum’s stockpile. Repairing armour and weapons for fellow members of The Decterum is one of his day to day tasks, and to take regular inventory of the Order’s supplies and write up shipment orders for more goods if required. The Master at Arms also offers apprenticeships to those willing to learn the skills of becoming a well balanced Smith. 

 

Physician

The Physician is a rank that requires constant dedication to learning the art of healing and mastering the knowledge of herbal remedies. Acting as a medic on the battlefield, and a health doctor within the home of The Decterum, the Physician is responsible for keeping members of the Order healthy. 

 

Devout

The Devout is a rank for which none can apply. Those trustworthy, cunning and wise may be selected, and they are only hand-picked. Members with The Devout seek to fight all things unholy, to battle the taint of Setherien and all other dark arts, and to root out corruption and heresy in Oren and within the Decterum itself. An individual must show great strength, of both arm,

piety and absolute resolve and dedication to the goal.

Arming Sword

 

 

One handed cruciform blades, the Arming Sword provides an incredibly well balanced weapon suitable for cutting or thrusting. Carried almost universally everyday by the Decterum, it is used in training, patrols, and lesser combat ordeals with frightening effect.

 

 

Long Sword

 

 

The backbone of Decterum fencing, the Longsword provides unmatched hewing, stabbing, and cutting ability. Designed for ceremony and battle alike, the Longsword can be wielded with one or both hands, and through an unmatched variety of techniques and versatility, it provides the quickest means to dispatch any foe.

 

 

Halberd

 

Long shafted pole-arms, the Halberd is used by Decterum soldiers primarily against mounted opponents. Reaching upwards to 6 feet, the Decterum Halberd possesses the required stabbing, crushing, and grappling ability to meet any opposition.

 

Dirk

 

A short, cruel stabbing weapon, the dirk is the supplementary side weapon of nearly all Decterum combatants. Unparalleled thrusting and ease of use makes it a deadly

efficient weapon at dispatching armored foes.

Longbow

 

Carved from large, single staves of Yew, the Longbow provides ranged artillery to Decterum troops. Fired solely or in volley, the Decterum Longbow traditionally spans 6 feet, possesses a draw weight of 120 lbs, and is capable of punching through plate if operated correctly.

 

Crossbow

 

Possessing iron plated lathes with yew stocks, Decterum Crossbows provide close range artillery with a low range, but brutal power. With a crannequin for enhanced winding, the crossbow is small, easy to use, and above all else; efficient.
