A rider with a crown passes by as Jacob Frost adjusts a few items on the towns notice board.  Nothing for him to worry about.  No one with more gold on their crown than the Count would want to talk to him.  Jacob smiled as it started to snow again.  He had much for which to be thankful.  Just an elven day earlier he had finally found some courage, after hearing of the Dwarf's Alliance with the Scourge.  Joining the battle was a must, of course.  He was part of the levy, but standing within range in the past would have been beyond him.  He had taken three shots with his bow at one of those magic users of the damned, or what he thought was one.  The figure stood far above the ramparts at the top of the keep, and across the river so far away he could barely make it out.  His first two arrows had missed.  The third, however, was another story.  He had gained courage at being able to even get this close to one of those forsaken souls.  It had been less than an elven week since Nihil had fallen from the sky and offered Schattenburg itself as an ally.  Foolish, his courage had been.  For the next thirty seconds, he dodged fireball after fireball.  It was then he decided enough with courage, and he returned to his catapult where he could do the most good.
Jacob walked away from the new town square, smiling at its beauty.  Schattenburg was growing up.  It was not the small, two house and a church town he had moved into.  He stood beside Moris Stafyr and talked about extending the wall again and adding more housing.  He would need more support beams.  The town was outgrowing the land it was on.  It was then that Count Stafyr approached, and gave him his orders.   This my friends, is how Jacob found himself a few days and trees felled later staring at Castle Ambriel.

Jacob smiled at his family and friends spread out on the beach working together.  Walls were being erected on one side while pits were being filled with spears on another.  Several frames were being put up facing the castle as well.  Rope.  We are going to need lots of rope he thought to himself.  Rebels be damned.  The Count was a loyal king's man, and that meant that Jacob was as well.
