  1. 1. Are there too many psychopaths? (And what ever happened to 3-5 on the server?)

  2. 2. Are there too many murderers? (Particularly those with no good reason. Insanity is not a good reason. Bad history is not a good reason. Motive, means, and legitimate criminal psychology is a good reason.)

Deal with it in rp is good in theory, until the dealing with it is so repetetive that it's a chore. LotC should not be "fun for villains, a chore for everyone else".

obligation =/= fun

Removing VA's and making videos about villains & how to deal with them appropriately is on my bucket-list.

I honestly think that the biggest issue with villains isn't the amount it's the villains themselves. There's just sooo many of the SAME kind of villain. I mean, where are the tasteful villains? Some of my favorites were Lion, when he was a villain, who was just straight up "Make me mad, you die, end of story" (He still is kinda like that). Or Knox, who was just plain psychotic. But now all I really see are "I'm evil and I'm going to kidnap/kill someone. Or "Minas or die" characters. What happened to that shady Cactus Green seller, or the Pompous over-confidant slaver, or even the scheming politician? I want to see more of those!

I agree with Shift, a guide would be nice.

You know, the only way to make more of those quality villains, and less bad villains in general is to Purge VAs and make it harder to obtain. I guess no one really wants that.

This as well. I remember hearing about Lion ICly. Izzy was terrified. "Lion the Terror of Salvus. Don't cross him!"

But now, especially with psychopaths... "Oh well, she's crazy. Nothing we can do. Nothing to worry about, either. *shrug*"

I'd go for that.

If everyone had VA's, no one would be unhappy about VA's. People are just too lazy to write and want to get the perks without the effort, and then they get jealous of the people that do have VA's, and start making up all this crap. VA's are fine, leave them be.

I certainly agree that the amount of villainous acts seen on a day to day basis is getting slightly out of hand. However I don't think that its entirely a matter of too many villains per say. I think its a matter of the Villain to Hero ratio being overwhelming. Guards are pretty much a neutral ground who can sway towards the villainous side (I'm talking Stab a criminal in the back, kill first ask questions never) or they can be more Hero orientated guards (get to the bottom of things properly, only kill if absolutely necessary). Now in any story, LOTC included, the job of dealing with the villain will fall to the Hero. The problem is, their aren't enough Heroes. Too many people are playing either the victim or the villain, but not enough rping as the Hero who stops the villain. My point is, I don't think that this is an issue that requires anything to be done ooc wise, but needs to be dealt with in rp.

I agree killing is seen to often, most people /should/ have more morals than to take life as their first resort when in conflict; though pvp may be partially to blame for this. A solution is obviously not simple, my kinda ideal would be you need a VA to kill anyone unless /heavily/ provoked (should be a last resort in any case) as well as for insanity and torture; because if done well being the murder victim to a psychopath can be really good roleplay. However, what can be seen as "minor" crimes, such as thievery or even kidnapping should not be monitered with a VA. How I see it is that even the best people can be driven to crime in at least one part of their life, this does not make them villains, just a normal person with temptations and the like. To have an application for these "minor" crimes seems to stunt roleplay to me, and may lead to an increase in "petty" crimes.. but a reduce in actual, serious villains? Just my two cents. ^-^

I'll agree with this. Too many people simply kill because "my character gets bored" or "my character is insane". Remove those, and they aren't too bad.

I had some villain rp recently where I fought Corvo and his massive colossus. I enjoyed it a ton. Why? Because it was different from the general kidnapping and killing. I was extremely willing to go along with the situation because it was different. Get some different villain RP out there and it shouldn't be too bad.

There is a great deal of insanity, more-so than would be even relatively realistic. Everyone has been taken once in their life and tortured.

It really has grown to be a great annoyance for me so I make this statement

Make the banditry VA rather difficult to achieve. It's bland, boring, and I personally just let them kill me so I can get back to decent rp. The fear of banditry is nonexistent because it has been shaped into a complete and total annoyance as it's overly abundant

Insanity should go back to what it used to be, a handful of players

Encouragement for the "lawful" Va. The justicars/enforcers/ect. Make this type of villan much easier to grasp, and people will aim for that over than the chaotic villain(If you make this fact well known)

As fiend has said, dealing with villains has become a chore and an arduous one at that, yet there is nothing that can really be done with words I think. Best to deal with it in rp, as the current VA-team is aiming for leniency over strictness.( More leniency will, however, make it easier to deal with but I personally do not feel that it will be at a high enough degree)

See, funny fact, only one of my characters has a VA.

I don't often see as many villains as some people claim, but that is probably because I don't log in for very long. As much as having more villains than less is probably not a good thing, I think it is important that we let people role-play the way that they want to. The only ones that should really be stopped are the ones who do it for items. Now, I'm not going to go on and on and say something about how the removal of Villain Applications will be very good, but I think it's worth a shot to trial.

People who continuously keep doing villainous acts in one place should also be taught not to do it or face consequences in either role-play (which I'd prefer) or OOC. This may go against what I said before, but then again the other party needs to have fun too.

It really is a pain for the eyes, if you go somewhere and someone stabs you into your back like a spy just because, he is a psychopath.

I play myself a villain, but i do it like this, if he dies i don't play him for two days or longer (Depends on how he died) and playing more non combat villain adds more roleplay for other people than a combat villain. But no one can change the style how a player wants to play his character. So i really got no real solution, just a tipp for other villains to move a bit away from the fighting, since different aspects add more roleplay into a situation. Nobody loves to die, but if someone kills, it needs to be "enjoyable" for the other part too. And never really return back to the same spot over and over again, this is rude and gets boring for the other players which are playing there.

And always make as a villain a reason why you want to doom someone.

When thinking about it, maybe we should generally discourage killing. Just make killing less. I like the idea of surviving. And when it comes to item hungry villainy I heard someone suggest once we make it so items don't drop when you die and I'm all for that. People wouldn't lose things for falling or mobs. I'm not sure how it would work for bandits, but it would make it more complicated, and limit bandits.
