[Ooc] The Scourge Born

The corruption had been in the host for years. Many years, mixing with her blood, her tissue and even her eggs. After nearly six years of being in the body, it found itself merging with a new life. The life that grew. All this started with nothing more than a bloodshard that had burned itself into the host’s flesh many years prior, starting a slow reaction to the body, tainting it for the first time. The pathways set into her cells, setting the stage for the second corruption. Although a second bloodshard had been removed, it had been in her body for many months before it was removed, causing the host much agony for years after.
 
At least, until a harbinger hidden under the mask of friendship, put it into dormancy in her body. For years the corruption lay hidden in her flesh, in her blood and in her mind. After six years of incubating and changing herself, the host soon gave birth to the first ever Scourge born child. This infant was already going to be something different, how different she would be, had yet to be determined. Born with sealed eyes, it was evident she was already frailer than normal children, yet, there was something different, something no one could explain. At least, not until the taint awakens in her.
 

What is a Scourge Born?

 
A scourge born is a creature born of taint. They are created from the merging of living and tainted cells during reproduction. A scourge born has a mind of its own and a free will outside the scourge forces making it very unique when it comes to the creatures of the north.
 

How does one create a Scourge Born?

 
The scourge born are created out of a series of incidents. This requires the mother to be tainted either completely or in a dormant state. The taint must be in her body for over ten years prior to the pregnancy, for her body to become fully tainted even in a dormant state. This causes the unborn to absorb the taint as it grows just as a newborn would absorb nutrients. As the body goes through its own changes, the child begins to grow. However there is no guarantee that the child would even survive to birthing due to the taint flowing into it. Currently no one can create a scourge born unless on the list due to the Setharian taint being dispersed, only currently born Scourge Born females may have the children.
 
Basic Points:
 
1. Mother has to be tainted for at least 10 years (dormant counts) ~ This mean they have to have it IN their blood.
2. Mother has to go through at least 6 months of pregnancy
3. Mother has remained tainted through the pregnancy
4. Infant must survive. (Any deaths during pregnancy of scourge born, kills the infant)

5. After being conceived, the mother rolls a 15+ to see if the baby is tainted as well

 

Physical Appearances

 
Scourge born can look anywhere from a normal child to that of a rotting corpse. The corruption, incubation, and genetics all play a role in a scourge born child. There is no set appearance for what a scourge born may look like physically. However, nothing is “added” to the appearance. Such as horns, wings, tails, or any other attributes not found on the race of the child. Kha would have kha appearance, Human would have human. Ect.
 

Magical Attributes

 
The scourge born are born without any magical abilities. However, they are still very unique. Because they are born of taint, they can not learn any holy magic as it can harm and kill them. However, when angered or hurt, in extremes, taint has been known to come from their body and harm anything touching their skin. Not enough to kill a person, but enough to hurt, in a way like a small shock. Plant life may wilt and wither but nothing further than a few inches from the contact site. If someone were to touch a scourge born during a bout of extreme rage, pain, or fear, said person MAY experience minor burns and mild to moderate pain. (this is up to the person being “hurt”)
 

Disabilities

 
The scourge born are born completely blind for much of their early life. The child gains the ability to see when the taint awakens inside the child, however, this is extremely painful for the child. They are born weaker and have the inability to be purified. Holy magic harms them just as it does the scourge, however they can be healed. The healing can be more painful than the wound itself, often causing blackouts or burns to appear for a short while after the healing. Another problem is they are sensitive to light as their eyes do not open till late. Better suited for staying out at night, their eyes are sensitive to light for the first six years they are opened, making extremely bright light damaging to them. Sunlight can cause blinding within a year of the eyes first opening.
 

Complications

 
Birthing a scourge born is not only difficult, but also dangerous. Many are born prematurely or die during the first few months inside the womb. Twins, though rare, conceived generally do not make it. One twin dies within the first few months and not long after the second. There has never been a case that twins are born as scourge born. If the infant manages to survive the birthing, the first year of life is difficult and unpredictable. Most children are born prematurely and thus receives complications from this. From birth their eyes are sealed shut with a thin amount of “goop”. If the goop is broken before the eyes have fully developed, it can permanently blind the child. The mother is also not safe during the pregnancy either. Internal bleeding, activation of the taint in her body, and other various side effects can happen. Many times if both mother and infant survive, the mother will completely reject the infant, seeing it as their lovers child but not their own.

The complications with the mother are many. The infant saps much of the mother's strength and will. The mother becomes weaker, more irritable, and more irrational. It is very difficult to birth a scourge born without the life of the mother being in severe danger. Sometimes the mother makes it through, but it is more common for the mother to either die during the labor, or lose her mind completely at the loss of he child. This gets harder and harder the more children she has. No "tainted mother" can have more than 3 scourge born in her life. There is a RISK of perma-death to the mother should she die during labor.
 

Purification

 
Holy magic can purify and ultimately kill a scourge born. Not only does it leave lasting burns on the scourge born, but it is quite agonizing for them to go through. The corruption is essentially their life force and if drained enough by purification will kill or debilitate them to a very weakened state. They can regain corruption over time, however it can take several IRL days depending on how much they have been purified. They can regain it quickly though contact with another corruption source such as a bloodshard. Permanent damage can be had from purification such as burn scars, discoloration of skin, or other problems. It is up to the roleplayer to accept or deny the change.
 

Other Info

 
Scourge born have very little that sets them apart from the main races. Other than being born with taint in their body, they can become anything. Their mind is completely separate from Setherien, making them their own person. I want to stress that the mother and infant rp are REQUIRED ICly to be done. I will keep a private list of those who /can/ ICly have “tainted” children to prevent this from becoming wide spread. Racial curses still apply to tainted children.
 
In order to see that this is roleplayed out correctly and to understand the risks, I ask that potential mothers PM myself or a lore master when they have met the requirements for having a scourge born. During their pregnancy, they should roll each "month" for the following. Health of Baby, Health of Mother, Mentality of Mother. Roll out of 10. Lower the number the worse off you are with 1 equaling death and 10 equaling health. During labor roll out of 5 for the baby and again for the mother. If the mother gets a 1 during labor, there is a risk of perma-kill. You are welcome to sacrifice the baby over the mother, but this is a risk as this is supposed to be VERY hard on mother AND infant.

As of 1/10/14 only 2 characters (Z'ress and Vithquire) currently are able to make scourge born. We can expand, but you must contact LMs and myself first before going through with your own.

Anyone who is playing a scourge born not named Dhaun'che at this point in time are not legit. There is a REQUIREMENT of IN GAME playing as well as LORE MASTER KNOWLEDGE. This will not turn into a Mori thing. Only two characters currently fall under "ability to have scourge child". One is Vithquir and the other is Z'ress Oussana. The ability is a MINOR thing, nothing major.

problem is teerz, you have to have scourge taint IN your blood for over 6 IC years.

 

You also risk losing your ability to have the child as its VERY tricky.

 

Wearing a pendant is not the same as getting the taint into your system.
