[Idea] Character Limit

What do you think of the idea?

  1. 1. Do you believe players should be limited in the amount of characters they may create?

  2. 2. How many characters should a default (player without VIP rank) player be limited to?

My idea is that players on Lord of the Craft should be limited to one character per username registered. That means that players should only be allowed to have one character per "account" they have on Lord of the Craft. I feel that this would benefit the server because the more characters someone has (in my opinion) the worse the player is able to progress and develop that character, a large part of roleplay in the first place. The extreme amount of characters some players have also has the chance to spread out roleplay. When they could be roleplaying on one character in said character's town, they are elsewhere roleplaying in another town. I feel like this is a problem and spreads out roleplay too much. I have heard that some players even have over ten characters! That is way overboard and simply unneeded.

Another feature of this character limit would be preventing war-alts from being a nuisance to many people. If you wanted to fight in a war you would need to use your character and have it impact them and develop them rather than a one-day alt which is discarded soonly after.

This could also be an idea for a new and perhaps largely wanted VIP perk. Each time you increase VIP ranks perhaps you can get one more character "card". For example:

  • Coal VIP: two character slots
  • Iron VIP: three character slots
  • Gold VIP: four character slots
  • Diamond VIP: five character slots

and so on.

This rule can be enforced by customizing the roleplay essentials plugin into only allowing players with the OP (moderator + admin rank) to change player's races. Without the ability to change races on their own, players cannot abuse the ability to change your whole character card at will.

No. If you want people to RP in your town on a specific character, it's your responsibility to give them fun RP things to do, not theirs to RP with you.

No. If you try to limit what the players can play they'll hate you for it.

I'm, obviously, not an admin, but I hope to Ned Lud Jesus they don't accept this

I'd really rather not. If they have an underdeveloped char, it is their own issue. That, and this restricts you to one type of regular RP. I have a powerful mage, a deaf humam, and a 3-year-old human girl. All of these are very different. My mage is the fighter, deaf the deaf musician (RRea lly fun for me to RP)) and the toddler is the innocent child. Why should I only have one of these for several months if I want all 3?

I feel like this would lead to more trouble than it's worth to regulate and/or have people follow.

Not really. I feel like it would be easy to simply code the ability to change race only to OP. It regulates itself by using the Roleplay Essentials plugin.

Most of this already happens.

VIP's have the perks of more character chards, and the GM's can change the stop of race to whatever they want. Example, I have a character whose race is Harbinger. But, I do not believe players should only be permitted enough characters to fit their chars. sorry.

I'd prefer no restriction, even though I only play one character actively. My reasoning being, if my main character is ever imprisoned long term, killed (and I want to take a break from her for a few days to make the death more impactful) or something else comes up where I can't really play on her normally, I'll still have a backup character I can hop on.

I've also seen several people who play characters with a very specific style of roleplay have an alt character that they can play when they'd like a change of pace. Such as someone who plays a dread knight and a hobbit, or a druid and an orc. Allowing players to make more than one character allows them to expand the kind of RP they experience, meet different people, see different places. If one character gets dull, they can play on the other for a while instead of simply logging out of the server to do something else.

Limit, but ordinary, non-VIPs should be allowed to have two characters at a time. Restricting a player to one character at a time has an extremely bad side effect. That side effect is extreme attachment, which in turn leads to having an OOC bias for or against various RP groups.

How about one main race and one sub-race? I am very tired of seeing people quickly create a character just to partake in a warclaim to assist their friend's nation in winning a battle. If you create a character that you won't even use much., why bother? I have used the same character David Campos a Salvian and Lord Commander of the Legion Of The Cardinal Cross. I am perfectly happy with him as I choose to do things with him. Create a main character and focus on it, additional unused characters are not needed.
