Draeris 3124 Share Posted March 7, 2014 A Guide to Villainy Crime. We all love it like ice cream melting on our tongue. In our daily lives we are so restricted with all these laws.. Why wouldn’t we be slaughtering cannibals who love to be the richest and infamous of the world? While many guides explained just a part, or their own vision on criminal RP, I hope that with this guide I’ll show all of you readers the basic guidelines, and advanced analysis on this roleplay type. If we all do it like sheep in a herd, we better do it good! Types of Villians While crime is in general breaking a law in any form, our little criminals have the urge to cloth themselves the same. Sometimes this dress code just doesn’t fit with the type of criminal you are. While we all claim that Hooded Assassins or “Edgies” are good or bad, we must take a neutral stance on it. This is what most of us see as an Assassin, thief or vigilanté. But is this always as practical or realistic? Have we clouded our judgement of useful and unpractical because of fancy games with good graphics? The above outfit is great, it gives immersion and there is nothing wrong with it. But we must realize that in Medieval times people, even on LotC, are more anxious and scared. Our government works through fear, our church, our religious orders, everything. If we see a hooded man with knifes walking around, or even hooded and acting all suspicious.. Well the guards would have all right to arrest and interrogate you. Ofcourse if you are planning to not be seen at all, a hood and weapons in reach are always handy. It is a balance you need to find as a true Assassin or thief and ask yourself, “Does my outfit expose myself?” Now that is something interesting. You now seem honorable, dangerous yet good & righteous. I am not saying that we all should wear blue capes and rose leafs falling around us but, normal or even guard looks may be even better to perform a crime with. It is far harder for the guards to accuse someone who seems like a normal or even powerful citizen of stealing a loaf of bread. If you are going to handle in open spaces, you may put off that hood and hide those daggers. Why does it matter if you are exposed when you are never caught anyways? The morale of the story: Even pretty looking mistrells in distress can cut your throat and run with your money afterwards. If your character has no reason to wear such suspicious and obvious clothes, why would he or she? Take an example from me, I played a human noble, in fancy clothes with alot of wealth. The fun thing was, I got that wealth through petty thievery and heists. Everybody would come to me and expose my own criminal network, which was funny as I obviously never passed it through to the guards. The impression I have maded with my noble character, could be something essential for your criminal character as well. We could take such impression from people who have played insane character. If its Loche Faelcyn or Aster the Fallen. Their looks are normal, maybe even trustworthy like the doctor above. But they can be cannibals, murderers and torturers. The point is, such character is unique. Once you realize even your character in the bakery can turn insane by any solid reason, you might end up with a murderous baker. Toast your victim with your bread perhaps? As many cultures roam the land of Anthos ( or the one in 4.0 ), your crimes can be themed in that culture perhaps? Asian writings with blood on the walls when you are an Easterner, head on spikes in front of their house if you are an orc. Such things. In general, don’t feel bound to the image of a medieval thief/Assassin made by game designers and novels. But we also must not forget that not every hooded man is a thief. As stated before its purely about the balance between what makes sense for ones character and one does not. Reasoning of your crimes A criminal just doesn’t become a criminal overnight. Sorry if it breaks your will to make your elf guard a criminal out of the sudden, but that ain’t gonna work. When you are breaking laws that any sane or ‘happy’ person would follow, you need a reason to. If you witnessed a murder and you want to take that Assassin? Sure, its a bit overused but why not? Perhaps you wanted to be an Oren Steward, but you are in need to cheat your way through because of your situation or reputation. These are motives, real reasons to break the laws we all abide to. Revenge, politics, insanity or darkness. Name it, but its a reason that defines your character like nothing else. But then again.. How did you lose your sanity? Why does your character want to be a Steward so badly? Those reasons must make sense as well. There is alot of reasoning required than just claim “He is insane” “She lost her mother to an Orc” “I was lonely for a week”. I may sound elitist (Looking to you & your second life references, Gaius. ) But eventually it is the most logical and realistic reason for one to become a criminal. Evolve your character into a criminal, or write their past so traumatizing and dark that he/she is forced to be a criminal by her envirioment or own mind. However, if you are a harmbringer, dreadknight, etc. You are evil and villianous due to your evil nature or convertation. When your mind sees screaming people burning in the ashes of your darkness it won’t matter that your mother left you when you were 6. But lets put all that darkness in our fine world aside, and think small. Who said that only full criminals can do crimes? Every race has their own pride, beliefs and quite their arrogance. An orc won’t respect your authority in your little tollboot on the side of the road. An elf won’t listen to the order of the Saint Lucien screaming “Herecy!”. So what do we do when things get to dangerous, exciting or scary for us? We do things we would never do before. Kill a guard when he is about to kill you. Steal a golden ingot to pay your rent for next week. Minor thievery is uncommon on this server, while it can easily be the most fun. A granny stealing a necklace from the king of Oren is a fun story to hear, as well as playing that granny. But besides that she got a fancy necklace, it will contribute to the whole atmosphere of the server dearly. Because lets be honest. Having 75% of the server as insane criminals with similliar stories is fun for neither. Lets be unique, lets be realistic about our causes. It is sad how we experience the loss of good criminals because of the few rotten apples in Villiany. An Assassin is very epic and amazing, but you just need the proper reasoning and thought for it. I hope this guide helped!

Helvetius 314 Share Posted March 17, 2014 Another good guide to crime is to not resort to instant PvP for criminal activities nor love 'give minas or die' RP. Be willing to RP fight, be willing to lose, be willing to put in detail into your RP, and be willing to not be 'that' guy on 'that' roof with 'that' crossbow (I'm not saying special). From there, your infamy will grow... This is a very good guide however! +
monkeypoacher 8055 Share Posted March 17, 2014 I'm just going to add that LoTC has no market for assassinations and never will. Your targets respawn. Whoop-de-do. You killed the king. Personally, I want to see more starving petty thieves and conmen and camp-dwelling brigands.
