Wars? Why Do We Promote Them?

 Share

Recommended Posts

Wars can be fun when they are conducted in massive battles. However places such as Oren have failed to create a balance for normal and military roleplayers. If you have too much military, your commoner population becomes harassed by criminals and knights who hurt commoners for fun so the normal roleplayers eventually leave and/or join a military force (A.E. Freya & her bank). Your normal roleplayers who dislike war can also be ignored due to the unanimous military support for said war. If there is only a small military force, the town can easily be beaten down by bandits and invaders by foreign nations. This usually leads to OOC complaining and whining by the town, making the other nations more aggressive towards this town because they can't be bothered to make a functional military.

In Short: Wars can be fun for a militaristic society but disliked by a normal roleplaying group. However even this is arbitrary depending on how the war is presented and laid out for both sides. For example, for many it would be wonderful to see the fall of the Oren Kingdom to put an end to an epic history and give things a good twist. For others they would rather Oren stay because it gives them so many memories.

The amount of rp might not be apparent, but as someone who has been around for a long time, we generally do a few things.

Orders are given out individually to collect resources, secure allies, and getting information. A huge amount of pre war rp is done, and I remember my friend who had a extensive network of spies that covered 5 medium-large factions in Anthos. But its a big picture, and you certainly dont see who's pulling the strings.

I wouldn't say that war detracts from rp, but as Aislin mentioned, we need something else to keep us occupied. The tech has supplied us with nothing but pvp oriented stuff like knockout, duel. Its the only plugin that you could share commonly. Other plugins like the brewing plugin, fishing, is only applicable to a small minority which is people who brew or fish, which is a very small amount.

Give me something like blacksmithing, gemcrafting or herbalism and you bet that I would be off frolicking in the mines or forests and just avoiding war. But for now wars are generally the only thing worth striving for.

Absolutely incorrect. So many people come to the Sleeping Troll Inn looking for a drink but once stocks run out, most of the tavern RP will disappear. A good deal of people want the brewing plugin to be fixed so that this roleplay can continue and people can actually drink their ales mcly.

To go into more detail, warclaims and raids destroyed Adunia. This benefitted Oren to a degree, but... not us.

50 Adunians, to 10.

That's what War did to us. Did we want it? No. We couldn't have stopped it IC.

Dynamic RP sure.. but.. It wasn't fun. I log on to have fun.

Then you where on the wrong side, simple as that. It is Dynamic RP.

Edit: Just wanna bash those that says there is not enough to do except war. Go down to the store, ask for a tube of "Imagination" and apply it onto your forehead. After a few days of treatment you will hopefully realise you don't need physical items for something to exist. If something it is the people that are the issue, being lazy not making enough of an effort to do thing in RP. Be creative please and ask yourself what YOU can do for YOURSELF to make RP. #Endrant

This is what most folks fail to understand or do not want to understand while preaching this good shyte about "Omg, I really love RP!!!" - Dynamism is the funnest aspect because we can never truly gauge the outcome, but because individuals are so stringently attached to the ideas that they put in this game, they flip out and the outcomes is the ban reporting and OOC denigration, then the trolling as a response because those people are astonished at the ugly reactions, etc. It has nothing to do with war, but with the fact that players do not or do not want to understand the nature of the beast so to speak. This is a fictional world that is a privilege to play in the game as, your ideas have a chance of success or failure and are bound by the laws and social sphere that "the real world" has. You either need to accept this axiomatic reality or please just leave. This is coming from the "useless b*tch" that I was called by one of the Antags when I took over.

Now the real butt-heads moment is when we have a certain portion of gamers who actually come to LotC to play out the fantasies that are put down in the real world. They expect protection for their ideas and that no one can bother them, they expect their poor communication skills, social awkwardness to be ignored although I've seen some of these individuals act so coldly, so blatantly disrespectful that the Golden Rule was broken. You want respect? Its a mutual relation in this video game. The other butt-heads moment is when players grow so large an ego over their Minecraft fiction that they mistreat others. I think a certain someone's stress ulcer actually smashed the chance of having another egotistical gamer run the glorious Minecraft kingdom.

Wars is an easy scapegoat, but I'd desire it to end.

Shoving two quotes together to make a "point" is both idiotic and rude. I referred to the high elves and quickly stated that I wished to not make this thread about them when I saw the conversation about them continue. Don't try to twist peoples words into something. That is rat-like and I don't think anyone appreciates it.

Calm down. I was just pointing out the fact that you were the first one to even mention and bring up the high elves, effectively starting the conversation about them. No need to call me an Idiot, rude, and a rat.

You weren't just pointing out. You were attempting to through me under the bus. Regardless I apologize if my words offended you. I become exasperated when people patch-work my words together. I was taking about the high elves in the current war because Gaius referred to them. I did not want to start an argument with Leowarrior about the dealings of the high elves. Again, I apologize.

Wars don't cause ban reports people do.

PEOPLE DON'T MURDER PEOPLE

GUNS MURDER PEOPLE!

War is good for RP. Peace is good for RP. It is known.

However, assholes are not good for RP, especially in power. The only difference between war and peace is that certain kinds of assholes reveal themselves full-force in war. There are also other assholes that only achieve rectal prominence when there is widespread peace.

War, handled by assholes, is not fun. War, handled by people who are not assholes, is fun.

Peace, handled by assholes, is not fun. Peace, handled by people who are not assholes, is fun.

If we ever were to stick with only war or only peace, we would only see one kind of the assholes and the other would be invisible to us. Only through dynamically switching between war and peace can we make both kinds of assholes reveal themselves and give us sufficient cause to extract them. In this way, both kinds of assholes are kept in check as war and peace expand and contract.

-snip-

Violence would be dynamic if violence wasn't the only constant on LOTC.

The dwarves X-Rayed three times to excuse their needless war claim which was motivated by OOC desire to start a war. I can delve right back into the argument we had 4 months ago or do we forget this? In my opinion that is called metagaming and powergaming, unless dwarves can see through stone. But this isn't the place to debate the legitimacy if your "war", is it?

What about the one from Telemar where it was denied because there was no magic plug in? Magic plug in is here and is used all around. Does it mean since you don't have an advantage it can still be denied?

To be honest - There has been a war ever since Lenniel was destroyed I believe. Constant fighting is all ive seen recently. Ive jumped to RP'ing a doomforge in dwarf city/Alras to get away from the huge influx of war.

Dynamic rp isn't fighting people and getting loots. It's enjoying a good situation; sure, getting loot is a chunk, but people jump to 'omg you just pissed me off hashtag you need to be flat" to often. I like peace rp, and some combat rp, we need a balance instead of constant wars for somewhat petty reasons.

War? What is it good for?

hahahahahacsmkac no.

War is the solution to all our problems! It is the only way to have peace. It's even in the bible (I'm not even religious) so..
