A Grand Election

A New Sohaer:

Mali'aheral must now nominate themselves and other mali'aheral for the position of Soaher. Speeches regarding why said mali'aheral are qualified are a must. In precisely 2 elven days nominations will be closed and the election will begin.

Duties of the Sohaer

1.) Consultation.  While the Sohaer presides as the head of state, he or she is obliged to seek the advice of fellow authorities.  The two underlings who share seats of power should be sought out before large decisions are made, to better inform the wisdom of the Sohaer himself/herself.

2.) Status.  The Sohaer claims the right to differentiate between times of war and times of peace.  Without a stated declaration from the Sohaer, the City cannot engage in national conflict.

3.) Diplomacy.  The friendships of our Nation are tied directly to Her fate.  Thus, in the Sohaer rests the ability to choose our state’s official allies and enemies.  No tie between our nation and another can be made without the approval of the Sohaer. Also, the Sohaer conducts visits from emissaries and representatives from alien nations.  All inquiries on the national level by diplomatic meeting are to be attended by the Sohaer.

4.) Guidance.  Referendums must be signed into the law by the Sohaer.  Ratification of law is vested in the signatory of this position.

5.) Teaching The Sohaer must be knowledgeable about all matters of the City and Mali’aheral culture.  More importantly, however, he or she must teach these things to all who inquire it, so as to enhance the Blessed City’s wealth and blessing in knowledge.

6.) Service.  The Sohaer must be at the service of the city, with no task for the betterment of all below himself/herself.  The Sohaer shall perform any task for the advancement and health of the Mali’aheral beneath his or her power.

7.) Example.  More than anything, the Sohaer shall represent the best aspects of all Mali’aheral and serve as a role-model for all. With exceptional purity, and exceptional citizenship, the Sohaer must demonstrate for each citizen the pinnacle of Mali’aheral expectation for behaviour.

Iatrilemar stands forth "It is time for us to gather our wits. What type of person will the new Sohaer be? If no one steps forward within two elven days maybe it is best for me to jump to it. I only wish to progress our culture whether it be medi'ir or Sohaer. Though I must confess the title of medi'ir fits me much more."

Iat posts a note;

It is now that we, elmali'aheral must look inwards and reflect upon ourselves. As you are all aware that Sohaer Lelien Lazul has resigned leaving an empty third in the Triumvirate. It is thus we seek to take this newly found self-awareness and push for individuals to step forward and proclaim their intentions in taking up the role.

Upon the late Sohaer's resignation letter one might read the duties of the Sohaer.
So with that I now ask that any individual seeking to take up the role of Sohaer proclaim it now in a formal speech presented to your fellow mali'aheral.  Only pure mali'aheral of age may run for the position.

Come forth mali'thill and proclaim your worth to us.

With careful precision, Lucion Sullas slowly walks towards the front of the gathered high elves. He twists around to face them, and clears his throat.

"It is rare for someone as myself to admit..."

He clears his throat once again, before quickly pulling his arms behind his back.

"... fault. However, it seems this day is fine enough to  past stubbornness, and make some admissions. Neutrality, as desirable, logical, and safe as it may theoretically be, is simply unsuitable in this day, and this age. Where there is an unaligned state, there will be barbarians seeking plunder. This has occurred far too many times to be coincidental. Thus, despite previous positions, I have re-evaluated my position on political treaties.

In my past, I loathed the Renatus-spawned Empire for its love of conquest, and its many grasping bandits that would attack us repeatedly. But in a time of worry, their nobility pledged their warriors to our cause. Them, and so many others. The Uruk, despite their overtures and threats, came and requested peace. It would be disingenuous to not feel..."

He pauses, and breathes in slowly. Noticeably, he speaks softer for a single word.

"... grateful.

It is my intention to continue this alliance with the Valah nobility, until such time where we, as a society and people, will not require our safety to be in numbers."

Lucion gestures towards the gathered high elves  airily, and speaks in his usual stern monotone.

"You all know me, lliran. I am a seasoned leader of my people. I am resolute. I am logical. And I will see us through the hopeful days of peace with a measured hand, and the wisdom of experience. Maehr'sae hiylun'ehya. Vote without emotion."

*After gathering his thoughts and deciding what needs to be said, Lorei Elibar'acal steps up and stands before the gathered Mali'aheral*

"Karin'ayla, Mali'aheral. I stand before you this day with a request. I ask that I be granted your trust to lead our blessed people into prosperity. I've spoken to so few of you, and consequently few know me on a personal level. I am Lorei of the Elibar'acal family. Many of my ideas will serve to ensure our cihi will remain well above the tides of war and chaos. Should I be granted the oppurtunity, my first course of action, is one that could seem questionable to one who has troubles looking from a broader perspective. I plan to increase effort in the guidance of the Mali'ker and Kharajyr that reside within, and perhaps even outside of our walls."

*Lorei pauses to take in the general reaction of the crowd before speaking up again*

"Worry not, as my goal is to get the two mentioned groups back on their feet and ultimately -out- of our cihi. I thank you for your attention."

Kalameet scowls, his eyes narrowed.

"I vote for Lucion. It only makes logical sense. He is the only candidate who is so understanding of our culture, and is the only one I'd trust with such a position at this time."

((I'm genuinely happy that that artifact wasn't merely lost at some point during the downfall of Lin'everal and actually still survives in another's hands. That's darn cool.

Ituri frowns at Lorei.

"Aren't we all safer this way?"

The words are soft and timid. She says it loud enough for someone near to hear, but not loud enough to gain the ire of the entire crowd all at once.
