The History

 

The Legend of the First Strannik

 

The term strannik had already been used for many hundreds of years in pagan Old Raev. These men were wandering warriors who would sell their martial prowess to tribal chieftains in return for glory and gold. The term persisted, and it is now a common term for armed retainers of lords who serve as dedicated sworn-swords. However, the Order of the Stranniks is rooted in a deeper history.

As history tells us, the first strannik of the Creator’s faith was a young boy by the name of ‘Stran’. Stran grew up in a small Raevir village as a serf to a local chieftain. At a young age, he had a vision, a calling by Godanistan above to embark on a great quest for the Seven Skies. His search began with three companions, crusading knights from the south. His travels are recording in the great Raevir epic known as The Stran. Following his quest, once Stran had grown older, many Raevirs took up arms in service of him, wishing to follow his example of faith.

A near cult like brotherhood formed around Stran, revering him as a saint and patron of all faithful Raevirs. After his death, his followers took up his colors. Red, for the blood upon his sword, shed in defense of his faith. Black, for the darkness of his cloak, and the godless road he was forced to tread in pagan Old Raev, with only the crows for company. Blue, for the healing waters gave him faith and life when he needed it, and for the boundless Skies above to wander without end after his ascension. His colors are still revered to this day by his followers.

Once he had passed, his former acolytes chose to take up his mission once more. They took up their arms to serve Godan and Mother Raev. They drove the invading Heartlanders from their homeland, and went about converting what few pagans remained in Old Raev after Stran passed. Many Raevir historians and theologians debate whether or not this is what Stran wished of his followers, though they did it all the same. The Order was devoted furthermore to defending their people and their faith. It existed many many years into the Aegis era, until the fall of Old Raev to the Undead. Most stranniks saw this invasion and this enemy as their calling, their final fate. They remained behind with the Kassaky tribe to hold off the Undead so their fellow Raevirs could escape Aegis. Few stranniks escaped, and the order was effectively disbanded until its reestablishment under Fredek Royce, son of King Heinrik Carrion the first.

The Order of the Stranniks were soon put the test, when the Holy Order of Saint Lucien along with the Decterum and a few nobles overthrew the “unrightful” Carrion King, slaying him in cold blood. Fredek Royce rallied up his stranniks, and charged at the oppressing forces outmanned, unprepared they were butchered, but fell slaying many of their opponents.

Upon Roy Carrions escape from the massacre at the sunshine smiles war camp, he returned to his people who proclaimed him “Grand Strannik”, a title held by King Heinrik, Roy Carrion immediately made a few changes to the order, his first order was to remove the status of “Order” thus bringing them to be known as “The Stranniks” and the second was free homing to his stranniks, believing that they deserve to live with their families rather than in a castle of the sorts.

 

 

Overview of the Stranniks

 

The Stranniks purpose is to preserve the Raevir culture and safeguard the motherland, Ruska. Its valiant members uphold the King of Crow’s authority and serve directly beneath him. Stranniks are not hindered by Heartlander ideals of chivalry and honor, promoting the use of the most effective fashion to fulfill their venerated duty. In addition, the Stranniks are zealous worshippers of the ’Ruskan Orthodoxy’, because of traditional streltic uses of pitchforks and hoes during battle, weapons such as polearms and spears are typically utilized. Despite this, the stranniks are taught how to use all kinds of weaponry, ranging from blades to battleaxes.

 

 

Command Structure in the Order of Stranniks

 

Velky-Strannik

The Grand Strannik is the undisputed figurehead of the entire order. He assumes ultimate authority during all times and heeds tremendous respect by Raevs residing everywhere.

 

Borsa-Strannik

The Borsa-Strannik has shown true mettle in times of war and peace, proving worth in all fields expected of a Raevir. It is obligated that he has undertaken the ‘Jezda’ and represented the order well during an extensive period of time. They are full-fledged Stranniks and held in high esteem.

 

Jezdec-Strannik

The Jezdec-Strannik has completed his education of Raevir cultural customs and limited combat training under supervision of a Borsa-Strannik. To climb the ranks further, he is required to wander the world decimating the Order’s foes while representing Stranniks and following its tenants all the same. This revered expedition is referred to as the ‘Jezda’.

 

Chetniki

The Chetniki serves as an apprentice to a Borsa-Strannik, providing labor and attention, and in turn receiving knowledge of Raevir culture and combat.

 

Lokaj

The Lokaj is the strelt who has demonstrated fidelity to the order and the just Raevir cause. He must be diligent, faithful, and courageous. They act as unofficial “sergeants-at-arms” to their fellow Kosa, serving as leaders by example only.

 

Kosa

The Kosa(Strelt) makes the bulwark of the order, comprising of strelts with minimal experience with a weapon. He must exhibit a will to obey orders unquestioningly and grasp the basics of a weapon issued to him.

 

The Stranniks Tenants

 

-Those deemed worthy of the title of “strannik” are those who have proven their mettle on the battlefield countless times without failure. All stranniks are expected to uphold such ideals at all times and continue to be an inspiration to the people of Raevir.

 

-A member must be willing to follow his superior’s commands, failure to do so results in stripping of ranking, and potentially exile (depending on the scenario)

 

-A member shall not needlessly harm another man. If this occurs, the punishment is public execution.

 

-A member shall not steal from another man. If this occurs, the accused will be stripped of title and issued equipment.

 

-A member must believe solely in Godanistan. If one’s loyalty to the almighty is questionable, the individual will be stripped of title and equipment, promptly being tried for heresy.

 

 

Equipment and Pay

 

Upon admission a member will receive each of the following:

 

-A suit of iron armor.

-A personal choice of weapon.

-Food rations on weekly basis or when asked.

-Housing (Based on rank, new members typically start out with a hovel)
