Making it harder will do nothing except decrease the amount of applicants to the server (which is bad). You need to place an emphasis on applicants' understanding of the rules and willingness to learn.

I suggested a "hidden test" in the application back when I was on the AT. For instance, in the rules hide something like "put your favorite fruit at the end of your biography" to test whether people have fully read them.

Furthermore, make sure the AT is looking for peoples' willingness to learn. This is really the most important thing that the AT should be looking for (and I don't think the current team is), since a whopping majority of minecrafters are stupid and can't write an application for ****. It helps if the reviewing AT member actually speaks to the applicant via PM.

I'm not sure if it would actually lessen the apps, considering how popular the server was back in the day it was more difficult. At the same time, it needs to be slightly harder. You could make it a bit harder, and it still won't be as hard as it used to be. If it's easy, then what is the point of having such a long application? If it needs to be easy, then may as well cut out even more parts, and shorten it up. If it is easy (and it is) there is almost no point in having a whitelist (Almost. There are a few things that still make them necessary)

The middle part of your post seems like an ok compromise, but I don't think baby walking players is the best idea. If players need to be baby walked through the app, they'll also need to have it for their RP, which doesn't happen, leading to poor role-play.

This also would be a good idea though, so long as the app team goes about it the right way. So long as they do not over tip the player, a PM would be fine.

Umm... you flip-flop a lot here...

Making the app harder would definitely lessen the number of apps. The amount of apps LotC has gotten has always correlated with how difficult it is. When we made it a lot easier like half a year ago, apps shot up almost immediately. This server got the most apps several years ago when they were exceptionally easy, which led LotC to also be at the top of Minestatus. Having an easy whitelist app that still requires about half an hour to fill out keeps out griefers and gives people an opportunity to demonstrate they took the time to learn the most basic of lore/roleplay knowledge.

Also, I don't know what you mean baby walking. The app team is meant to help players with their apps without giving them the answers, and to teach them how to roleplay on this server. Your point here basically makes me think that you're saying we should not accept players who know relatively little about roleplaying, something that most of us lacked basic knowledge in when we were accepted.

The app right now is at a level of difficulty that it doesn't deter too many players from applying, but keeps random people who just want to grief/troll from applying. It's the ideal balance.

Sorry for the confusion:

"Baby walking" meaning helping the player too much while Pming is what I was referring to. You were not around when I joined to know how many apps there were.

When I refer to players who do not know how to RP, I specifically refer to players who are little kids, or have the minds of little kids who are OOC motivated in RP, more likely to break rules, and be inconsiderate for other players. Like I said in my first post, if they don't have the patience to fill out a tough app, how will they have patience for RP, or an argument in OOC? I find it more difficult to tell a child he is wrong, than a teen or adult.

But even if the apps did shoot down, I side with quality over quantity. This is why I personally will not donate to LOTC these days. I almost did 2 years ago, but the way things have been, I definitely won't.

Sorry, I didn't mean to confuse you man!

My own, simple suggestions.

One application, for each race. You have a section with standard things ( Definitions, etc ), and then a section that is racial. Language, culture, etc included, creates better racial roleplay

Make it not a requirement to have server towns in your bio. I've seen it lead to new Humans mentioning Aegis towns and stuff because it's hard to tell what the current towns are when you have never been on the server. Back when I joined, the lore check was telling us to name all the races(not including subraces and Undead, etc.). We could add a question for all the races and a question for them to name one server town or something, instead of making them mention it in their bio and end up saying they live in Alstion.

Exactly. Players don't even know where to search for lore lol. They go to our outdated wiki they begin naming towns from Asulon and Aegis. Its either doing what James said or just giving the new players some place where they can get this information.

We tried this, it didn't help at all.

From what I've found, age does very little to deter impatience or OOC argument. Several of the server's biggest problem players are older than I am (I'm 19). Likewise, some are younger. Likewise, with how much of a niche roleplaying servers are (which doesn't even define us, we're RP-RPG), having a strict app will kill this server. It's far more efficient and enjoyable to accept many and teach those who need help, rather than accept a few and have them be entitled little pricks because they are the RP elite who don't tolerate lack of capitalization and basic word choice (obviously an exaggeration for effect, but my point is clear).

You are indeed entitled to your opinion.

I like the changes, a lot.

I love how you are making it a tad harder.

I think that's a great step forward. :)

But I dont know if I am being rash or not but I would just be a little more harsh on the lore they type down.

And this is because of the VAs, yes.
Since our VAs had to be really good to be accepted.
So I feel that if a person seems to give the glimpse of wanting to be a villain, that you can be very strict.

As in.. well you get what I mean!

Though glad to see that most people think it should get those extra questions ! :)

Personally I want the difficulty of the application to go up again. After it was decreased, the quality of RP has been lowered.

I do like the new application, but could we make it so applicants have to post on the Minecraft Forums again? (Or even Planet Minecraft?) Our thread is currently virtually unused on it, and while it may not provide much traffic; a little extra players is a good thing.

Moved to the Great Library. It shall be sorted into appropriate category shortly.
