Make videos for newer players. Use Shiftnative on Reddit to your advantage before 4.0 comes out and use Reddit more actively. Get more members who produce high quality work. Cut it out with the news, it's getting old and frankly does nothing to help the server aside from bringing IC into an OOC news show that makes us all look like complete twats to most new players who may be looking on youtube for a minecraft roleplaying server.

Exactly, I have been using Reddit all the time, discussions are dead there, and I am an active redditor lol.

In my opinion, you need to highlight what LOTC is. A pretty video of rolling landscapes is a dime in a dozen. Film huge battles, don't even cut them. Maybe you can do some sort of commentary over it. Show things that happen in our world. A bandit being chased out of the city by a guard or two, some scourge ACTUALLY battling people.

The videos currently being put out aren't very interesting. It's just a bunch of empty land with epic music. Maybe if you're lucky, like on the most recent one, you'll see someone take a damage tick. Scenery is not how you'll draw people in, action is.

I suppose I can be long or short about it, but my number 1 wish is rather unwavering no matter how I slice it,

Bring back Mithradites.

Yes. Just YES

I have to agree with some of the other posters. A lot of the content which the media team releases makes me cringe.

In my opinion the media team needs to do two things, drastically up the quality of its videos and take way more time on each video, and secondly stop focusing on the existing players and start focusing on new and prospective players.

A good start would be to do some tutorial videos like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVLcONwvS_k

Here's something you should try out:

- Not make news outlets. LotCBC, Morning Herald, LotCN, they all are basically the same thing. You want news on plugins? Admins already do the job. You want news on in-game occurences? You can find that out in the game. OOC? ****, just ask anyone for that.

- Advertisments. That will keep you away from news and attract players. It's a win-win scenario which you should've thought off already, considering how hard working you are.

- Johnson's baby no more tears shampoo. You seem to take some criticism too personally, despite the fact that you spend your time on things that don't do much for anyone. Once you chill the **** out, you're good to go.

Bet they gonna flip shitburgers at me as well.

Sky, know that up until recently I've had the utmost respect for you. However, your recent reactions to backlash have left me doubting your ability to cope with criticism. I understand that such is stressful, and, sure, these aren't the nicest people, but I feel that exercising some patience and self-control would be invaluable at this point. The way you've decided to approach this 'Your View' seems to be so you can have an excuse to vent at people. I'm thinking that, in your current state, you might do well to take a break from team leadership.

Please know that this isn't meant to be vindictive, but some honest feedback I must give, based upon the conflict I've witnessed amongst the MT, and the thoughts of other members of the community.

I am truly hesitant to post this, as I understand it's feedback that's hard to swallow, but honest nonetheless. If I'm warned for this, I'm sorry to say it, but that would simply be reinforcing my point.

I have faith in you and the Media Team to ignore what should be ignored, take on constructive feedback - however unsavoury, and realise that a great deal of the community is supporting you.

I was a bit disappointed on the footage and that Setherian's death was not captured on screen despite having jistuma giving the MT prior warnings.

Maybe just come and film events sometimes?

I think trailers and epic action shots are what you should focus on. We're not big enough to warrant news updates. Anything big gets covered by an Admin or GM announcement and everything else trickles down through the forums/skype.

Let's Plays like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oP4pi07Awo and embellishing trailers get people to play, not new segments.

After reading through the posts, I'm pretty disappointed in the community. This thread was made so the Media Team could get some constructive criticism on how to improve because the recognize that there is a lot that can be improved. I agree that the LOTC Report isn't helping bring in new players or entertain the player base and really, we could use some good trailers. From what I've heard, there will be improvements in the future and the media team will try their best to listen to the community (I mean that's why this was made in the first place.)

What I want to point out is that there is a lot of aggression towards the Media Team and Sky in particular. This thread was made with the intention to get constructive criticism, which means suggestions to improve and pointing out what is not being done well at the moment. I don't know about you but calling people on the media team "greasy nerds desperately trying not to sound awkward." is not helpful at all and really its quite rude. The media team are people too, with feelings. Yes, they should be able to take criticism, but there is a fine line between helpful criticism and being insulting. Sky had every right to point it out and give him a warning. From what I saw, it wasn't a person lashing out at being told he is doing something wrong but simply a leader trying to protect the feelings of his team.

I also want to point out some of the passive aggression that's come out of it.

I would like to add that this notion that we who think the media team is putting out extremely cringeworthy content are a "vocal minority" is ridiculous.  Just about everybody I've come into contact with, even some other staff members, have voiced something critical about the cringe, which you'll find described in my previous post.  The entire community is screaming it out, but because of conflicting likes and dislikes and perhaps some stubbornness in the media department's leadership, it falls on deaf ears.  "They're just random plebs," they say, smirking comfortably, reclining in their chairs. "Plebs whose opinions mean nothing!"

Really?

Yes, really?

Insulting the media team is really not helping whatsoever. I'm sure they are happy to see the helpful comments but please watch what you say because these are also real people you are talking about who are only trying to do their best to help the server.

This is a 4am rant but I really felt like it needed to be pointed out.

Don't talk smack about me without knowing me first.

If you can't take a joke as a joke, you are the problem and not me.

I gave some criticism. I don't like typing out mass amounts of text just to say "you fucked up, do dis". Then I dropped a joke, because jokes are fun you know.

If people find the news thing cringeworthy, what's stopping them from telling that? If the guy doesn't get the idea that he needs to focus on something else, he'll just keep doing the same mistake. You gotta realise that we're trying to help out in our own way, and my way, somehow, always looks aggresive. I don't get how you people always get that. Put some ice on that.

Do change your signature though, you a hater yoself.

Fun on the internet.

Are you certain that applies for every case where that is said?

And are you sure these phrases are common?

I Edit:

I can google up some passive aggressive phrases too, mate. This blog is sure a credible source.

I still don't see why am I being framed for aggresiveness. Is having fun disallowed? Hello fun police, take me away for trying to be funny in United States of Sad.

You really need to know the person better to know if he's aggresive or not. Text barely does ****.

Quick on the blame game, aren't we

I would just like to note that the Media Team's job of bringing in new players is nigh impossible until the admins start shelling out real money to YouTubers with a lot of viewers. Despite our silly news videos, we have actually had some pretty bitching trailers (see Gabriel's last trailer for reference) but nobody sees them because they're posted only on our own YouTube channel. Go look how few subs we have on the LotC channel.

Reddit is a great outlet for attracting players. PMC and MCF are okay, but you need something absolutely mindblowing to get a significant amount of views on these mediums. Pay a YouTuber with 100k subscriptions like $50-$100 and he'll get our video at least 10,000 views, easily.

That investment is worth it, but Tythus being the only person in charge of funds seems to neglect that. Hell, I'd even invest that if I was to be reimbursed with 10% interest or something. Either way, the MT is moot until the admins get off their ass and make an active effort to stimulate serious advertising.

P.S. Ease off the voice-overs a little? You don't have to throw one over all of them, sometimes less is more folks.

We need more advertising, more videos about the server, races, guilds, factions, magic, lore and creatures ETC ETC! Go for RP-centric videos rather than 'News'. Also, get the LOTC merchandise shop rebooted since that is technically your department, isn't it?

I did not insult the media team nor its leadership, I simply stated my opinion regarding their reactions to the general community's opinions on how they've acted, which have been uncalled for.  Did you miss the title of the thread?  It says 'your view'.

I know I'm not allowed to have my own opinion and that I need to castrate myself to not hurt anybody else's feelings, but I don't believe my personal "view" nor anyone elses' should be doing as much.  It's not my problem if media team members have tantrums because of a differing popular demand.

Now, does the media team work hard for the LOTC playerbase?  Of course.  Nobody is saying otherwise.  We just believe that the media team would be much better off working on trailers, event footage, RP stories, etc instead of relaying events we already know about.
