The Illatian Culture

Brief History of the Illatian People:

The Illatians originated from the old Subudai, a tribal civilization with exceptional honor and tradition. Whilst being unalligned with the flourishing empires during that era, the primitive adapted towards the increasing mercantilistic world of war and progression. This slow change created a barrier between two ways of life, being the eventual cause for the seperation from the Subudai. These first Illatians survived many hardships throughout the ages as plagues and wars struck them. Those seperated people survived the dark periods of time, and have thaught them that deeds do much more than words.

Being involved with many other civilizations, the Illatian peoples adapted to their ways. The lack of unification and leadership led to a near extinction of the people as many succumbed into the dominant cultures surrounding them. The Illatian people were the laboring force of these kingdoms, most never reaching any kind of status. Humble workers and farmers they were, following the Subudai principles of Merit, Loyalty and Honor. The Illatians felt satisfied with their deeds,  but felt a burning desire for recognition.

After the exodus from Aegis, the Illatian people had gained a certain craftmanship in their various expertises. Generation after generation they became more skilled in their work, giving them the possibility to become more involved into the merchantile world. Only a few now recognized Illatians made it into the higher circles. While the feeling of unification was still lacking, the similliar language brought the people slightly more together. Their increase of expertise and influence resulted into more liberty for the people, this causing an age of progression for the Illatian people.

Only after the second exodus the first signs of unification happened. Illatian business arised, and higher circles of society were more accesable for them. In the beginning of Anthos, the word “Illatian” was used by its own people for the first time. They started distinguish themselves from the other Human cultures, and remained quite neutral for the full duration of the Anthosian realm. Only after the birth of the Fringe, more Illatian people united themselves within the Holy Oren Empire, recognizing it as the one true human nation. But the culture only started to thrive when the Visconti family gained a noble status within the empire.  The Illatian people were known as simplistic, but a thriving and dedicated people. Whilst considering Oren as their new home, the Illatian people declared themselves as a sovereign culture, laboring for the betterment of the empire even today.

Principles & Beliefs:

Progression

The only way to live is by moving forward. This view on the way of life makes the average Illatian someone of adaption, rational thought and ambition. Progression is the correct word to define an Illatian, as its nature is to gain more and better for the greater good of all.  Passion is a great incentive to progress for an Illatian, but the importance of their origins, traditions and religion remain untouched by their progress.

Passion

An Illatian is nurtured to believe that life is full of happiness and wealth, if you allow it to be. The diverse Illatian people fancy themselves with their expertise, and satisfy their true desires while still contributing to progress. Sensual activities, advanced cuisine, grand festivities and deep beliefs in the spiritual world and philosophy makes an Illatian a fine human being. Though, with a high expectation of life an Illatian can’t take failure quite well. This often results into sincere depression, making happiness and satisfaction far more importnant.

Unity

After many ages in seperation, the Illatian people learned that being together makes eachother stronger in various ways. An Illatian prefers to have close relationships with friends, allies and family, and are often a higher priority above wealth or status. The mentality of uniting all good makes an Illatian an inviting and open being, believing that striving for the greater good should be done together. Foreign influences and strangers are welcomed and tolerated within the Illatian hemisphere as long as it doesn’t bring the unity it has into jeopardy. In general, Illatians place alot of trust in eachother.

Civility

The Illatian people believe that they should be obedenient to their superiors and equals, this principle originating from their history of labor and submission. An Illatian is generally polite, believing that insults and ill thoughts should only be spoken of in the absence of its target. Everyone gains mutual respect in the eyes of an Illatian, hostility between two sides is always attempted to be turned into friendly rivalry. Manners and correct verbal communication is something considered importnant in Illatian society as well. Mutual respect and manners is always expected to be returned by an Illatian, betrayal and magic is considered something highly uncivil.

Definition of “The Illatian Dream”

According to the philosophies of the founding Illatians, there exists a way for every living being who has had the privelege to be born in Oren to live with garuanteed happiness and purity. While these writings had alot of room for interpretention , a general guideline is established to follow this “dream”.

“For an Illatian to find true happiness, to satisfy its lust and ambition, it must first earn the luxury of satisfaction like any other mortal does in this world. First, an Illatian must believe fully in the Creator and proudly protect the divine empires it has created. Secondly, the Illatian must always strife for the Greater good of all, and not succumb into the seductions that lay as obstacles upon everyone’s path. And at last, an Illatian must never forget its origins and dearest. Only by allowing yourself to be the example Illatian, you should find a door opened towards true happiness. A wife shall hold your hand, and your descendants shall playfully surround you. Your mind shall be a mind of peace and rationality, and your merit would be fully recognized and compensated. This is, the Illatian dream, reachable for every true Illatian.”

Festivities
Dawn of Theodosius

Garofalo-XX-Ascension-of-Christ-1510-152

“Worry not, for we are lot of passion. Come hither in my arms, for all evil is over.”

Theodosius Visconti is honored for his deeds that led to the prosperity and founding of  the Illatian culture, being the first Illatian to ever gain status in Oren by using nothing but Illatian principles and manners. Even today he remains a beacon of the purity the Illatians have, and Theodosius is seen as an example for a all. It was expected for him to forfill the full Illatian dream by giving the civilization a prospering home with the divine empire, but he was slain by the Dwarvish race, leaving his legacy to the sons from his brother, Frederick Visconti. This has left a certain grudge towards the Dwarves.

Every 23rd of the First Seed, the dawn that Theodosius was born on, people shall lay a rose upon the grave of Theodosius, and pray to the Creator for his redemption and rebirth. The Visconti family are obligated to provide a feast in his name, as they share his blood.

Attire & Cuisine

While many may believe that the Illatian is merely the average laborer, their exceptional taste during other activities is something admirable. The Illatian male often wears pompous and colorful attire after their labor, expressing their feelings through color. It is a silent tradition to get your attire from Illatian tailors, as it is some sort of public recognition that the Illatian is proud of its origins.

The female on the other hand wears more elegant and majestic clothing, existing out of one or two colors. The way she wears her clothing would indicate her state of happiness like the male would do with his colors. Exposed clothing would mean a desire for sensual adventure, while formal clothing like dresses would indicate that there is no desire for more.

The Palette

Visconti Red

Visconti Red is considered the most happy and majestic color to use for your attire, but also the most expensive. This color would mostly be seen during festivities or formal occasions, and also indicates a happy marriage or bonding.

Palatinate Blue

Palatinate Blue is considered the most depressed and repulsive color, and would raise worries among near Illatians. This color is also used in funerals or memorial services, and is not the color you should wear during normal activities.

Pantone Yellow

Pantone Yellow is considered the color that represents the passionate & sensual activities of an Illatian, and is expected to be worn when a maiden seeks a companion. The color is linked to Passion, that being the reason why the color is also used quite alot in the Illatian cuisine.

Illatian Cuisine

The Cuisine of an Illatian is simplistic but satisfying, and is mostly created by ingredients from home. A traditional meal always has bread, various oils & herbal spices present to increase the unique taste of the rather simple meals. Illatians in the aristocratic cirlce often add artistic aspects to their meals, shaping it and making it a colorfull work to lay your eyes upon before consuming it.

Only during festivities or special occasions will you see the Illatian kitchens working overtime, as all reserves are nearly depleted to make various meals in courses depending on the time and cycle. The Illatian people dedicate themselves to satisfy all participants, but foreign may find the standard lacking. Because in the end, Illatian cuisine is meant to battle hunger and fatigue for the laboring people.

The Illatians compensate for their simplistic cuisine with their experitse in various beverages , having passed on the knowledge generation to generation as a form of tradition and necessity to keep the Illatian mercantilism alive. The so called ‘Wine-culture’ lives on, and only advances as time passes. Today, wine is a common drink in the Illatian cuisine. Most other brews are ironicly sold as one of the best products on the market, yet are considered something that is not worthy to be apart of the Illatian cuisine.

Illatian Art

The artistic world is active in Illatian society. From the respected laboring circles to aristocracy, art is considered a way to find inner peace and connect yourself to your creation as you would make perfection on an imperfect world. Most art exist out of oil paintings and sculptures of the honored and fantasized.

Even though their focus is layed on painting, the Illatians are mostly recognized for their expertise in colored glass and their artistic approach of building with such expensive material. The Illatians prefer to use stained glass for their own architecture, or for decorative purposes.

Physical Traits

Originally a pure Illatian would have black or brown hair, and mostly green eyes. But due to the excessive sensual activities that the Illatians performed with other types of Humans the standard has withered with the numbers. Because of this, exceptions like the Blue-eyed Visconti bloodline or the Brown-eyed Burgundy bloodline came to existance. And so, the actual appearance of an Illatian purely depends on origins and the Creator’s decision. Blond Illatians are nearly non-existant.

Generally an Illatian has a healthy body with nearly no illness until older ages. Due to the generations of labor an Illatian has adapted to outside influences and fatigue, but during this period the aristocratic lines are experiencing a decay in the healthy and strong bodies they received as a blessing.

Aged Illatians often gain problems with their backs or fingers due to the constant labor that started from young age. The most common issue is a hurting back, and in some extremer cases the curling of the fingers. A cure and reason are not yet found by the Illatians, but the aristocratic cirlces seem to have less of these health issues.

Ohh well, I did become inspired by your thread to put our principles & beliefs in such organized manner, as there is really no better way in my eyes. Apoligies if it has offended you, but I don't see why I should add you to the credits list. Sorry!

Great reformation! I'm proud to be an Illatian and I think people should begin to form their own illatian families as to avoid being only one family

I like it, and I am particularly amused by the fact that this has better lore and backstory than most of the 'official' human races, such as Northerners (and whatnot). Bravo, mate ;)

Now can I have my family back? I did what you asked! I did it! PLEASE DON'T HURT THEM!

But seriously, good one :D
