Wonder why Battle of Dreadfort was a great battle? Because people actually fought each-other, not sitting in dark trenches cutting at peoples ankles cause they have no strategy.

From a third party, I just wanted to point out a few things.

1, Why is it always the same group of players who seem to complain about someone else's constructions? It seems that every time I log into the forums I see So and So complaining about So and So's fort, be it ugly or too good.

2, I'm just going to take an uneducated guess and say this is aimed at the Dwarves. You know, the guys who RPly are always more technologically inclined than the other races in various medias and even here (Steam Power and the like), and yet we have the Humans? complaining that the tech race is too advanced. We even have people saying the traps aren't realistic. So, since I can say *Johnny shoots a fireball at Steve* and poof that guy dies, then why can't I MCly have a dispenser drop lava? You know that bright red stuff Mommy always said not to touch? Here's an idea, don't touch it. Lava doesn't chase you.

3, Let's keep beating that dead horse that "The Playerbase is bad". Well buddy, you're apart of the playerbase. All you're doing is complaining in a way that won't help anyone. This is a factions pvp server? I always thought it was an RP server with the same group of players fighting in wars like every single month. "That darn playerbase that I happen to be apart of and am actively assisting in the battles that make us a bad playerbase yet I am a total good rper and am apart of the 2% of good players."

4, Make love, not Rules. Don't be stupid and fall for the same traps everytime. As a person who used to play a character who got paid to find ways into cities, there is always a way to bypass. There is always a way to outsmart someone else. Instead of having the skygods ban traps, why not have people become 'Trapbreakers' and invent ways to get around or through traps? Dispenser on the ground? Plug it with stones (Unless it is protected, then that's the skygods realm of magic that I do not understand)

5, It's just a game. Stop complaining because So and So is ruining your belligerent style of RP. When I play, I'm not going to bend over and let you cut my head off, or ruin my personal projects that have taken time to construct just because you aren't having fun.

There's two sides to every coin, and two sides to every argument. Telling someone they can't post because they are negative or because they are apart of the 'offending' party is just ridiculous in this collective roleplay server.

Aimed at the dwarves - That explains why I used the example of Mount Augustus, a Human fortification, in my OP. :) It's aimed at everyone.

I won't respond to the rest of it because I'd get my 10th warning point if I did.

-1. Your rant was not constructive at all, seems like you're mad.

I'll address one part of your rant - "Why is it the same people complaining."

Well I don't know...maybe it's because these people have time and time again experienced the poor quality of war RP that LoTC is exhibiting at the moment.

I don't see why defenses should be limited.  Some people wish to have a safe place to role play and not participate in the daily raid fest that others enjoy.  While your suggestion may apply to fortresses of people who raid, it will affect both groups.  The fringe may have this problem, but it will be gone in a few weeks and then your suggested changes will have poor overreaching side effects in 4.0.

PM me! I'm always interested in what other people thing. Educated debates and the like are fun.

Oh no, the one aspect of the server is not working for you? Hmm. I must try it again, and again, and again. Every thought about experiencing the rest of the server? In medieval times most soldiers were common farmers only rallied for wars. Yet LotC is full of standing armies of unimaginable proportions. Why not get off the War Teet for a while and do something else if someone else has to build a wall, traps, and spend probably hours to keep you and your friends out just so they can RP?

Build base underground, line all entries with traps and the base cannot be sieged. Trebs or no.

True, though, consensual warclaims make it pointless to limit traps anyways.

I've always considered trap-holes to be hiding spots instead of fortifications. Don't quite understand why an army would have to capture a random bunker that can't defend anything but itself in order to take the town next door.

Because the rules for winning sieges are archaic. It is impossible to win a siege on a fort w/ traps.

Ever heard of military RP? It's an actual thing, I was a White Rose. My job isn't to kill people all the time, but when duty calls, traps like this are what is causing war RP (notice war RP and military RP are two different things) to display a poor quality of an aspect of the server. I'm sorry if my style of roleplay is not oriented to flying ferries and eating bushberries.

'Another entry for every fortification.'

Are you joking? Maybe like.. 8 months ago when people actually RP'd to RP. The current building system, on BOTH SIDES is fugly and lacking in any form of RP. Why do we draw the line to a factions PvP server? Because the keeps being built are just that, PVP towers and PVP holes. It's not technology, it's an abuse of mechanics. If we were a Factions PVP server that could grief entry or use TNT to be rid of the traps, there would be no complaint. However, we're not. We're an RP server. What sense does it make to have an entire floor disappear in an instant? Where the hell does endless lava come from? How does someone swing a blade into a tiny space with enough force to actually harm someone in armor?

It's not about being stupid and falling for the traps. It's about both sides being able to have untouchable fortifications because the rules protect and allow these kinds of structures. It's an issue that needs fixing because it's being abused. To be blunt, when you build a fortification that has a single entrance, which is underground with a hallway of traps, the only method of entry is exploitation, which is against the rules. And the only way to overcome all of this is, 'Consensual warclaims,' which is a whole pile of issues within itself.

--------

In response to Relgard, it's yet another flawed angled of the war system we've got. Most factions want to press the idea of, 'You have to capture ALL of our forts before you can attack our city.'

I'll put it another way; what are the negatives to the server as a whole of removing these parts of the server? Nothing of note.

What are the positives? More enjoyable, dynamic sieges like the siege of the dreadfort, more aesthetically pleasing fortifications, less OOC drama and festering when bullshit bottom-of-the-barrel traps/mechanics are used to win warclaims by use of the archaic siege rules.

Right once again. I wasn't there when this Mechanical standards rule was put in place, but from everything I've seen I believe we'd be much better of with something like

If it makes sense in RP and can be done in MC, do it.

If it makes sense in RP and can't be done in MC, RP it.

If it doesn't make sense in RP and can be done in MC, don't do it.

If it doesn'tmake sense in RP and can't be done in MC, don't RP it.

White Rose? I heard of them one time. I didn't realize that a dead group on a RP server was a badge of honor. And you can't separate War RP and Military RP just like how you can't separate a Dwarf from his Ale, or a Bard from a Tavern. They all go together. I personally couldn't give less of a **** if you enjoyed pretending to stab someone with a pixel or pretending to FTB with three kha and a horse. Whatever you get your kicks from. I'm just saying that if you don't like someone or something.... don't do it. Don't be around them. Your character seems like a one trick pony and that's without even knowing who you are past this one thread, "I must kill! Because Orcs killed my parents and I am controlled by a PvP Fanatic" Yay us!

(If your offended... get over it. It's a joke. I don't even know who you are, nor do I care if you like me.)

What's wrong with wanting to fix something you like?

When you put your own entertainment before others, i.e. the people who have to hide behind walls. Why can't we all just be friends and play Halflings  :crys:

Me saying I'm White Rose isn't a card to prove I'm right, it's a card to prove I have experience in this aspect of the server. My name has a backing to my claim that the quality of war is poor right now, yours on the other hand, I can't say I've even seen you in any battle. I've grinded many hours into war RP, and they've been extremely great, but as of late, it's been lacking because of the topic at hand.
