 So fishing at its current state is really bad, or at least not productive at all. It takes extremely long amounts of time to level up, seriously I've only farmed one time and I'm a higher level, and by the time you've caught one fish, a farmer could have already farmed at least 32 wheat. That's 16 bread, to one fish, and is completely unfair. I'll offer some solutions to my issues with fishing here.

 

 1. A very simple solution to this is, give more xp to fishers. Not difficult, just up it by a lot. Like I said before, I farmed once for about 20 minutes, and my farming xp is triple my fishing, and I've fished for much longer. Nobody will continue fishing if it takes months to level up, and when they do level up it's practically useless anyways.

 

 2. Make fish superior to bread. In it's current standing, bread is much easier to obtain than fish, and when you get bread it's also a better food source. What? Why would you do that? Make fish last longer, and replenish more of your food bar in comparison to bread. You might say, "but you can make sailors delight!" Which is true, and sailors delight does last longer, and replenish more than bread. However, it is a huge hassle to basically re-cook all your fish, just to make them all un-stackable.

 

 3. Make it so you catch more than one fish at a time. I heard you might be able to do this at later levels, but make it at all levels please. Let me let you in on a secret. People don't fish for that 1/100 chance they may find some decent boots, they fish, for fish. So make fishing worthwhile, by actually making it a competitive food source with farming. Let people catch 1-5 fish each time they reel in. Maybe it isn't the most realistic thing to do(even though I have caught more than one fish at once irl), but this is a fantasy server, so who the hell cares? Also having the possibility to catch a few fish at once could make it a bit more exciting.

 

 4. We have a huge thing completely unused here. Fish have weights now. At the moment, fishing weights are basically just there to show off, and compete with friends. While that is a cool feature, there is a lot more potential for this addition. Make fish that are heavier give you more xp, and replenish more health. It only makes sense, you are going to learn more through catching a huge fish, and you also are going to get a lot more of that fish to eat.

 

 5. Make fishing nets not shitty. I don't want to have to wait 4 hours to catch a few fish. Most times I can't even stay on the server for four hours straight, considering it resets, and I have things to do. All fishing nets do is encourage people to go afk for long periods of time. Make new times, maybe you cast out a fishing net, and within a half hour it's got 5-10 fish or something. At the moment, the insane wait times are killing fishing nets, nobody wants to wait that long, a half hour would be a better amount of time to catch a significant load of fish.

 

 6. Bring the variety of fish we had in the Fringe back? I miss this old plugin, it made fishing a lot more interesting. Having to travel different places for certain types of fish, and knowing that there were 100's of possibilities was awesome. Not sure why you decided to limit us to only two types of fish. It also made the RP more interesting, you might have to be forced into a certain group you didn't get a long with to catch that fish you wanted so badly, then learn from the locals how to properly prepare and cook that fish. I loved the old fishing plugin, and it came as a surprise to me that you guys decided to remove it.

 

I think that sums up my thoughts on the matter nicely. My apologies if it's a bit scattered, and has grammatical errors, as I write this extremely tired, and about to pass out. -tldr- MAKE FISHING USEFUL

I like the weight idea a lot, I was talking about that to some people. It's funny how a 99 pound fish fills you just as much as a tiny bluegill.

 

And bring back 3.0 nets.

Or just return fishing back to vanilla and we wouldn't have this problem :)

Naa, vanilla fishing was just as bad. Especially now that basically every other mechanic on the server isn't vanilla, why would we make fishing an exception?

Totally agree!

Difference is you actually have the power and staff relations to get these changes made. Maybe bring it up to the tech team?

Farmer is faster because farming is very badly made in term of exp. You farm one farm and rank up twice, that doesn't happen in any other profession. Farmer is the only profession that someone has reached more than adept most likely. Thought I don't know the details of what the fishers do, lumberjacking is just as bad right now.

I agree to most of this, except for the 'Fish must rot less fast'. Fish rots very quickly.

Otherwise, I love all the ideas and would like to see them implemented! :D

And I'd wager you have never farmed. Or cut wood. Or smelted metal. Or cooked food. Or bred animals.

I agree and mining is even worse with the leveling/grinding issue for exp though but compared to a farmer fishers are pretty much usless

I guess you dont much experience either. Using a line? Sure you can use it to catch more than a single fish at a time may not be the rest way unless you running a boat with lines but it can be done. A net? know how to the the right place you can get 10-30 decent size keepers in less than 10 minutes compared to 20 hours of waiting in lotc to get nearly as many (Almost a whole month in RP )) Coming here to have fun not start playing a Real life sim
